Well, I'm winding down with BaD I'm kind of glad. I'm getting kind of worn down from BaD for me. I kind of regret not ending with everyone else last Friday. I really wanted to try do more of the editorial pieces that I started BaD with but I don't know... I just didn't have the heart or energy to do them. On top of that, I had to contend this year's BaD with a slew of just shitty luck....sigh. Sorry just needed to let some frustrations out. On to today's topic.

Orchestral arrangements of video game tunes. There's nothing really like it. I loved them back in high school when I used to play the violin. I tried so hard to come up with my own but I was terrible at writing sheet music. So I tried do them by ear...with mixed results. I actually record a few of my attempts at it and they sounded terrible. I tried to One Winged Angel and a Sonic 1 arrangement by Video Games Live and both sound really bad. That's part of the reason why I want to get back on the violin so bad, I just want to try to see if I can perfect it.

So what's your favorite video game orchestral remix or what song/game do you thing deserves the treatment?

Wow, that was awesome. It sounded like it could be one of Vivaldi's works from Four Seasons.

This one from Tekken Tag, the first in the series I ever owned.

I love that one too. I wished they remixed it in Tag 2 but the remix of Tekken 2's credits is good too.

You played violin in high school?  When I was in high school, I played bass trombone.  And I only knew one volume: LOUD!

I've been to many video game themed orchestra concerts.  Video Games Live, Play, a couple of Final Fantasy specific concerts and a Zelda one.  I love orchestra music and really enjoy it when they use it in a video game.

I don't really have a favorite piece, but boy I could've just cried when I heard the entire FF6 opera scene in a live concert.  Ever since I saw that part in the game in high school, I've always dreamed of seeing a real version of that.

I could go on and on about other music, but I'll just stop right there.

Yeah... never ask me my favorite hahahahaha. So much great orchestrated music to listen to.

And there's much, Much, MUch, MUCh, MUCH more!

By the way the soundtrack for LoZ A Link Between Worlds is quite instrumental, and I thought it was 1 of 2 great things about the game. Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw1QLtDRr5U&list=PLz5gUls4mkX8Z_HPYY9xFHth0f-7qIrWn

Oh man all of that music reminds me of the awesomeness of 3D World's OST. That orchestra and ska music....sooo good!

There's a bunch I could probably name, but unfortunately none are coming to mind.

I understand. I have a lot I like myself. The only reason I choose the two songs above was I've been listening to the Melee Orchestra recently at my job a lot and the Sonic one was just special because I tried to play it on a violin, albeit not very well.

As far as orchestral arrangements go, you can't simply go wrong with Super Mario Galaxy. Both games have amazing arrangements.

I also love the ones of Smash Bros. Brawl and Halo.

If you haven't check it out already, do try to give the Melee Orchestra a listen on YouTube. It is really good.
