Well it appears what goes around comes around. Some of you may remember I was going to do a series of blogs on trap games (only actually did the oneFrown) and had mentioned the Deception series. Well your going to get another chance to check it out if you missed the PS1 and PS2 games because the newest entry arrives this month for Vita and PS3.

I am personaly really excited about this, I was not sure this very niche game would make it stateside. Basically you controll a character who is unable to attack directly, but you can set up traps in the various rooms in your castle and use yourself as bait to lure your enemies into these traps. The real trick is to chain the traps to create a Rube Goldberg style mouse trap effect for maximum damage, exp, and money. So if you like an unconventional mix of action and strategy, with a touch of sadism this is the game for you.

It's funny, because I was just talking about the Deception series a while ago with other staff members, and I was the only person who had played it. I remember playing the original Tecmo's Deception back on PS1.

Ah... Memories Smile

Yeah its a very unique game. Kind of flew under the radar for a lot of people. I had Deception 2 for PS1, it could be fun and frustrating as hell all at the same time, lol.

Chris told me about this series.  IT's cool that the Vita is getting these niche games, that's why I bought it.

Yeah, they only released one game state side on the PS2 and it was called Trapt, so a lot of people like myself were not even aware it was a Deception game. Glad to see Tecmo is keeping it alive.

I missed the PS1-PS2 era. We had so many varied wonderful games. Perhaps because production costs were a tad lower in those days companies were more willing to take risks. The idea of setting traps for one's pursuers is quite a novel concept!

It really is a fun game. I gave my copy of Deception 2 to my friend as a B-day gift becaue he liked it so much. I thought I could scoop another copy easy enough. I was wrong, used copies on ebay can go for $40+. I agree, I wish developers were more willing to expiriment more.

That sounds really cool, actually.

Its a really cool game mechanic. Never understood why it did not catch on like stealth games did. It's similar in that you are using indirect methods to get through or overcome enemies.

I am def thinking of picking it up but it prolly wont be a day 1 buy for me. Might give it some time being out before buying.

Kotaku gave it a pretty fair reveiw, so I will have to see what money looks like come then. I have not played a Deception game since the PS1 days. So I'm pretty excited to see this.

I played Trapt on PS2 not too long ago. I didn't have the patience for it, but it's a great idea. Some of the art in Deception IV reminds me of the macabre style of Dark Souls like this train trap.

I have yet to play any games in the series.  I wasn't even aware more games were being made.

I was not aware either until I saw the cover art for it in a story on Kotaku about Sony changing th packeging on PS3 games. I just asumed it was likely only being released in Japan, and the very next they say its coming stateside.
