Xbox One sales near PS4 in America for February.

The NPD's have come in and XBone was only outdone by PS4 by less than 10% in sales in North America. This is alarming. The question is why?

Well my theories are as follows:

1. Titanfall. The biggest exclusive in XBone's arsenal. This is the game that is said to be Microsoft's best hope at saving XBone. Well, judging by the improved sales over the last two weeks for XBone, this would seem to possibly indicate that. People may have been buying it to prepare for the Titanfall launch, which was a couple of days ago.

2. Continued supply constraints for PS4. I'm not sure how difficult a time Sony is having producing PS4's, but it could be harder than I imagine.

3. Lack of games. With very few launch games, and nothing big until Infamous: Second Son--which comes out in a little over a week--there could just be a slow in demand due to nothing exciting new to play, unlike Titanfall for XBone.

4. Lack of demand period. This would be the worst case scenerio. Maybe it is going back to the old "Xbox is cooler than Playstation" mindset that has been the case for years in America. I hope not.

Worldwide, PS4 is selling near double weekly, however. This is mainly due to PS4 selling far more than XBone in Europe, and also, it has launched in Japan. The real battle for worldwide number one will be won by PS4 most likely, but the battle for America is on whether I like it or not. When Infamous: Second Son releases in about a week and a half, this will be a better indicator of how things will really go. Thanks for reading.

In the long run I doubt it will matter just like it didn't during the previous generation. The 360 was outselling the PS3 for most of the generation until the near of the end of the generation when they were neck and neck. So that might happen this generation. Even with Sony coming out the gate with a $600 console it managed to close the gap. Either way I think we as gamers benefit from this competition.

Well competition can help push improved performance, however, PS2 had no shortage of great software with little competition.
