Chapter 1:  Out of Practice and into the Flames

How the mighty have fallen.

The only way to Drangleic is to cast yourself into the abyss, and then find yourself between here and there.  Weaponless, I arrived in a circle of stone suspended in the middle of nowhere.  The ghosts of those who likewise have cast themselves into the same turmoil flee in all directions around me, yet there is only one way to go.

Picking my way across bridge and dale, I spot a cabin and step inside without so much as a knock.  This is a dangerous tactic, but this is a land of death, as the residents of the cabin remind me.

Tales tell us of the three women weavers of fate, and when I set my eyes on these crones my mind told me who else could these creatures be?  Yet their servant told me that they were simply retired firekeepers.  Am I to believe this?  Weren’t most of the firekeepers dead?

Then I begin to wonder, what year is it and where is Drangleic?  The people speak the names of places I’ve never heard before.  The regions of the world have unfamiliar names.  When I finally find a dagger in my hand the weight feels different.  My legs move swifter and I’ve lost my magic.

I’m an explorer in an unfamiliar land, filled with unfamiliar faces.  The crones laugh at me and send me on my way.

I’m dressed ridiculously for the journey I’m about to take.  I have no shield and only a tiny dagger with which to defend myself.  This is absurdity of the highest order, and I in my infinite wisdom set off into the unknown.  I ignore most of the mist gates dotting the way, setting light to lamps I find for no other reason than I can.

When the cave I’m in opens up to the sky I find myself on the shores of the ocean, the light streaming across the small village of refugees to the land of the cursed.  A woman dressed like a paladin meets me there, tells me of four great old souls that should be gathered, something about a king.  Everyone tells me that the undead curse cannot be lifted.

Shall I prove them wrong?

Progress:  Just Starting Out

These entries are going to be slow coming because I’m in the process of playing and reviewing Witch and the Hundred Knight at the moment for Fandom Post.  (I haven’t even touched Atelier yet.)  They’ve changed enough about Dark Souls 2 that it’s kicking my ass.  You get so used to playing your old leveled up character, and I had a hell of a time picking a class to play as.  I had started as a Royal before, and this time was torn between swordsman and explorer, and chose explorer who has the silliest outfit ever.  That will be remedied at some point.

Explorer sounds like Link from Ocarina of Time, but with a dagger.

I shall await future installments with relish (and possibly some ketchup, as well).
