Quick Rant

You would think that I would have learned by now...  apparently I haven't.

I just had another crappy experience at one specific GameStop.  I should know by now that they never have the game(s) that I am looking for and when they do have them it is always the last copy in the store...  that means if it is new they throw that crappy "new seal" sticker on the case seconds before handing it to me.  If it is the last used copy it means that it is in a generic case.  What really sucks about this most recent experience is that I am a little medicated and therefore not as alert as I normally would be.  This meant that when I asked for SM3DL for the 3DS it wasn't until I had handed over the cash that I realized that I was paying for a used copy.  It also meant that I did not realize that it was the last used copy.   I feel like the employees typically would have asked me if I wanted a new copy or a used copy before ringing me up.  They didn't and all they had was a generic case...

In the end, it is my fault and I should have just said no right away, but I hate confrontation.  I guess I need to make a stop tomorrow to return the game.  I won't be returning to that specific store ever again after Friday.  My inFamous pre-order is at that store so I need to return there once more.

On a positive note.  I have been playing the new Strider game.  I love it.  It reminds me very much of Shadow Complex and that game was amazing.

Yeah, I really wish I had the original cases for those DS games I bought at Game X Change and Gamestop recently.

I used to buy more used games, but Gamestops can be a little slimey for sure.  Some are alright, but most are pretty lame.

I'm a little out of it in general, and not always quick on my feet, and stuff like this happens to me too.

It's not that I want used games, I just expect that a store that specializes in games would stop new copies of first party Nintendo games.

yeah it doesn't make any sense

I've had Gamestop employees routinely try and swap out a new box for a generic one on me many times. I always watch them carefully to make sure they don't do it.

I dislike Gamestop because they are always trying to pull something on me. I hate that. They're taught to be falsely interested in you and then try and sell you something sub-par. I hate going there. Too much corporate influence going on now. Very unpleasant.

I went into one today to get a game and saw it was in a generic box. Sometimes I ask if they have the new box (and sometimes they have it) but they always make me feel stupid for asking that, so I left the place. I've got two other Gamestop's I'm going to check for a complete copy tomorrow.

Oh yea, I have a retro store in my area now, a mom and pop shop, and I went there first to give them first dibs on my purchase. They didn't have the title I wanted, but there you go. Gamestop's now my last choice for used games.

They are actually told by corporate to throw away any and all DS cases.  Yes, they take up space, but maybe they would actually be able to sell a bunch of those old DS games if the kids could actually see what the games are about.

A month or so ago a Gamestop employee told me that too. It really sucks because I'd rather have the box. I'll get an Amazon gift card and get it there instead. They're just pushing gamers away. I don't understand it.

In general Amazon does me right! Wow, I have not walked into a Game-stop in years!

I should just stick to amazon, but I still like not having to wait on shipping.

I feel you. "The waiting" can be agonizing sometimes. lol.

I think that I will return to amazon for anything that I am not picking up Day One.  I didn't actually need Super Mario 3D Land.  I could have waited, Strider is keeping me busy enough.

I pre order from Amazon all the time.  You get the game delivered to you on release day unless you are in a remote area.  I haven't gotten one later than release day.  I did get a game the day before though.

Game Stop, ugh! Do not even get me started. I check the Target clerance bin and find games I have wanted for dirt cheap and new.

My target clearance has been pretty crappy recently.

This is exactly the thing that made me stop going to Gamestop. I was debating whether to buy a new game vs a used one to save a few bucks and I decided to go with new. So they pulled a scratched disc out of a paper sleeve and crammed it into a dirty box right in front of me and I was like WTF? Unlike you, I love confrontation, and asked the guy why he was doing this, and his response to me was like it's just like a new disc!? Emm what? I've bought used games before that didn't work, so I demanded a refund. Suddenly he pulls out a brand new copy of the game wrapped in plastic and still sealed. Seriously? I never went back to a GameStop again and I just go off Amazon or eBay.

Remember kid, I bought a "new" unused game, and the pulled the old switcheroo right in front of me. Sometimes they will tell you that they have the last new copy and they use the game box for display before you buy it, but this was not such a case. Liars! Thiefs! Yell

I got a "new" copy of sin & punishment because it was really cheap.  When I got home I noticed that there was a club Nintendo code.  When I punched it in the code was apparently invalid or already used.  that pissed me off, and I am very cautious about getting the last "new" copy.

I have no problem with GameStop.  I also have no problem with confrontation. Smile

I like certain aspects of GameStop, they tend to have more obscure games than the big box stores and I like that.  I am just done with that specific store.

Make sure to trash them on the survey.

We don't have Gamestop in Canada but we do have EBgames which is really the same company. I've never had a problem with them because I know the people at the ones that I shop in and they know what I will and will not accept. They never put the circle sticker on used or open games and they never ask me if I want the warranty.

I have never run into a situation where they sell me something used as a new game or been given a generic box instead of the real thing. That is unless I bring a generic box to the cash which I almost never do.

They make a higher profit margin on used games than they do on new games, so unless you specify, you're going to get the used copy. Don't blame the employees, they're just following "guidelines" and if they don't, they get dinged for it. Same with trying to sell you pre-orders and all the other extra crap that they push. I once worked for what was a really nice little local chain of video rentals stores that go bought out by a big corporation. Our manager got fired because we weren't pushing enough of their package deals on our customers (who didn't want them anyway and that's why they came to our store). The entire staff quit in protest, and all they did was bring in people from other stores to staff the place.

So yes, Game Stop sucks, but don't blame the employees for the carppy policies.

Since there's no GameStop in Colombia and all the game are expensive either way, Amazon is my right choice for anything of videogames.

I've had some pretty slimy experiences at Gamestop, including one time where my brother was looking for a copy of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and the person was just going to sell him the game card (just the game card, nothing else) for full price.

I have only once had a bad experiance with GS and it wasnt one of my local stores. It was one close to my bfs place and oh did I rip on the survey about it. The district manager even called me and helped me so those surveys do get looked at. Needless to say I dont go there unless they have something Daniel wants. My local shops in my area have excellent staff and know me pretty well. Thats why I still use them. Goodstaff can make a big difference in a store. Im sorry you had a bad experiance though :(

Stop going to that gamestop! gerneral rule of gamestops. If it's bad the first go around, it'll probably be later on. Only venture if they have one of those sales speicals. I learned that myself when I tried one of their buy 2 get 1 free at one gamestop and they tried to tell me I had to be a pro member to get that deal, but when I ventured to my usual gamestop they said I didn't have to be.
