Final Fantasy X initial impressions (Vita)

Happy International Day of Happiness Pixlbits! I was hoping I’d get a text from the boss this morning telling me to take a day off in honor but alas, no such luck.

So my preorder for FFX on the Vita arrived in Tuesday evening from Amazon and I finally get to experience the one game I wanted most for the PS2 (a console which I missed). I’ve put about two hours of gameplay in at this stage so I figured I’d share my very early impressions of the game.

 FFX

Oooohh, aaahhhh!

Obviously, I haven’t seen much of it yet but the combat system in the game so far is proving very enjoyable. The Overdrive system offers some nice variety and the QTE prompt it activates is fun (though I could see it getting old quick). Also, as much as some people hate it, I generally enjoy random encounters so am glad the game includes this. I have fond memories of listening to some good music while grinding in FFVIII and hope to repeat the same here.

Grinding of course brings me to levelling and unfortunately, that is the one aspect of the game I’m not massively impressed with. It seems dangerously close to FF XIII Crystarium system which I was not a huge fan of. It does initially seem to have more involved to it however so I won’t judge it before I give it a fair chance.

Graphically, by looking at the Vita, you can tell it was initially a PS2 game but in my opinion, this HD Remaster has some nice sharpened character models  and some very colorful, clear locations. The cutscenes appear to be completely redone also and look very much current gen.

FFX

Looks good to me

Overall, so far so good. I’m looking forward to diving in hard this weekend and I’m sure I’ll post something more meaty at some stage next week.

Thanks for reading my lovelies. And remember, for today of all days: don’t worry, be happy!

Later

I actually liked the sphere grid a lot because of the level of customization you have for your team members. I hating the Crystarium thing though and found that it forced you into a single direction where the sphere grid did not. (At least as far as I remember)

I'll be getting this as soon as I can but with all the stuff you can do and trying to get each character's ultimate weapon it can be a huge time sync.

However I still have no intention of trying for Wakka or Lu's ultimate weapons for reasons I won't explain to avoid spoilers.

Yeah now that you mention it, the lack of choice was most certainly my main reason for disliking the Crystarium system. If this offers more choice than i'm sure i'll like it fine. Time will tell.

Have fun! I never played either game, so I'll probably pick this up at some point during the summer when I have some extra cash.

As far as the gameplay to cost ratio goes, you could do much worse Tongue Out

This interests me. I still have FFX on PS2 that I haven't played yet. I think I'll play that first, and if I like it, get the HD remake.

By the time you finish, you might even see a price drop. I agree though, I'd play the PS2 version first as you already have it. Graphics ain't that important.

I might not've enjoyed FFX from what little I remember of playing it, but maybe if I get the chance I'll give it another shot.

I like it so far but turn based rpg's are probably my favourite genre.

i've got it and I'm loving it.  One of my favorite games and haven't played it for a while.

Glad to hear. Between my recent completion of KOTOR2 and now this, I seem to be working my way through all your favourites haha

I just found out how large the file size for the game is...  I am going to have to pick up a physical copy.  No way am I going to free up 7 GB worth if space for "one" game.

Yeah I have the physical copy but FFX-2 is still a digital download with a code in the box. I think X-2 was like 4GB, maybe.

Depends on if you buy the game for the PS3 or the Vita. Both games are on the disc for the PS3, the Vita version comes with the dl code for the second game.

Oh yeah, good call Tami. I was referring to the Vita version I have of course.

I hope you have fun with it, I never cared for FF games but I think this may help with Vita sells.

I wonder if it will with it also being on PS3. With the exception of FFXIII (which was alright), i've loved every FF game i've played. Different strokes for different folks

See, I like Bravely Default, Which some say goes back to FF on the NES, which have too. I do not see it myself, BD buries anything FF in my book. Now if SE had made the FF games like this then I probably would be a fan.

Nice blog. The combat is the best part of this game. They should have included in it in other entries as well. The Sphere Grid was decent, too, but was pretty linear. I really want to try a game with the international release of the SG. How is it in this? Can you describe it?

TheMart22

I'm not really far enough into it yet to fully describe but I did read that this HD Remaster is based on the original international version. I guess that's a good thing then?

I'm guessing so! I wonder if they included any of the additional content from that in this release as well.

TheMart22

I think it does. I believe it's why people here were so excited for the release.
