Happy International Day of Happiness Pixlbits! I was hoping I’d get a text from the boss this morning telling me to take a day off in honor but alas, no such luck.
So my preorder for FFX on the Vita arrived in Tuesday evening from Amazon and I finally get to experience the one game I wanted most for the PS2 (a console which I missed). I’ve put about two hours of gameplay in at this stage so I figured I’d share my very early impressions of the game.
Oooohh, aaahhhh!
Obviously, I haven’t seen much of it yet but the combat system in the game so far is proving very enjoyable. The Overdrive system offers some nice variety and the QTE prompt it activates is fun (though I could see it getting old quick). Also, as much as some people hate it, I generally enjoy random encounters so am glad the game includes this. I have fond memories of listening to some good music while grinding in FFVIII and hope to repeat the same here.
Grinding of course brings me to levelling and unfortunately, that is the one aspect of the game I’m not massively impressed with. It seems dangerously close to FF XIII Crystarium system which I was not a huge fan of. It does initially seem to have more involved to it however so I won’t judge it before I give it a fair chance.
Graphically, by looking at the Vita, you can tell it was initially a PS2 game but in my opinion, this HD Remaster has some nice sharpened character models and some very colorful, clear locations. The cutscenes appear to be completely redone also and look very much current gen.
Looks good to me
Overall, so far so good. I’m looking forward to diving in hard this weekend and I’m sure I’ll post something more meaty at some stage next week.
Thanks for reading my lovelies. And remember, for today of all days: don’t worry, be happy!
