Happy Friday Pixlbit Nation, how are you good people doing? I am finally over this bug, well the majority of it anyways, which feels good because after spending a lot of time sleeping this past week I can finally get back to normal. So what has Chris been doing during this time? I know you want to know so let get this week’s Quick Hits started!

What I Was Watching

Bonanza

So I started watching this show on TV Land and it started to grow on me. It reminded me of the older shows I used to watch growing up because the local TV station had blocks of time they needed to fill. Anyways back to the folks on the Pondarosa, is it me or was Virginia City filled with A-holes who every episode wanted to either rob, fight, take over the town, or go full racist on the people in the city and the Cartwrights? I also found that it took close to a half hour to build on the story, and then have it all resolved within the final five minutes. I wish we had shows like this because the sets were fine, the story wasn’t bad, I rooted for Hoss, and it didn’t hit me that Parnell Roberts (Adam Cartwright) is the doctor from Trapper John MD.

Now You See Me

To start my mini Isla Fisher Mini Marathon (this started as an accident) and this was on HBO. I figured it would be nothing great but it wasn’t bad. I thought Mark Ruffalo wasn’t good in the movie but he had some points where I really liked his character. I ended up getting caught up in the movie and it would have been something I would have liked in the theater.

The Great Gatsby

The second part of my Isla Fisher Mini Marathon was a movie I was trying to avoid because I thought it was too over the top, and under all the shiny movie was a terrific story…of course I never read the book so this was a surprise for me. What really took me out of the “period” was some of the modern music. The instrumental of Lana Del Rey’s Young & Beautiful was great but then having Jay-Z just ruined it for me. Why didn’t the screen writers throw in a Titanic joke? “I heard Gatsby survived that awful Titanic sinking” C’mon it would have been funny.

Cartoons

I bought this a couple of weeks ago because it was on clearance, and this was a perfect time to watch but everytime I ran into a period when there was nothing good on TV I fell asleep.

Dancing With The Stars

The main reason to watch this season was to see the coolest guy in a galaxy far far away…Lando F’n Calrissian.

Yeah his dancing wasn’t that great, which is why I think DWTS pulled the Star Wars stuff early.

What I played

Real Racing 3

While making my way through this game I unlocked two more racing groups, and the cars are starting to get really pricey. Still a fun game even if I am sick of the racetracks.

Saints Row IV

I sunk a lot of time into finishing this game and I enjoyed every single minute. This game is pure comedy with all the little references to pop culture. I played through the side missions first because I wanted to upgrade all the weapons and max level my character. After I finish uploading this blog I’m going to buy the DLC for this game.

Killzone Mercenary

I just finished this game after taking a break from writing up this blog (I stopped at Real Racing for a bit because I was tired). I couldn’t get past this one section in the middle of the last level until I realized there was some help and boom I cut through the enemies that were giving me grief like butter. The storyline was ok, but I do like that you can go into the game and replay levels to increase your rank. I’m happy I got this game at $7 for the digital version, and I will buy a physical copy if/when it hits the same price point.

Pickups

Even when sick I got a couple of items

Before I got sick I was roaming around Target buying some things to make lunch for peeps that were visiting and I stopped at the music section to see if anything new went on sale for $10.

I added new music, which is always a plus. It’s a solid album and I think half of the tracks are now on my iPod. Awesome voice!

I downloaded this trivia game to see how much I know about my former summer employer back in college and well, I don’t know a lot. Talk about being a terrible Cast Member.

In time for March Madness, I bought SDSU’s new shirt for the tournament.

I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!

This is why we love Coach Fisher! From handing out free tickets on campus to having sellouts for the past couple of years, Coach Fish has built a program and when he calls it a career, the floor better have his name on it, and there better be a statue out front of Viejas.

Well good people of Pixlbit, it is time to end another edition of Quick Hits. I’m still chipping away at the backlog of blogs I have but I will check them all out.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Sorry you've been sick and glad you're feeling better. Bonanza was one of my dad's favorite shows, and we use to watch reruns of that, John Wayne movies, and Bug Bunny cartoons together.

My Dad's favorite show was Davy Crockett.

Thanks, I think I'm back to normal.

Hot damn John Wayne and Bugs Bunny, that is stuff I remember watching in the summers growing up. I'm starting to get into Bonanza.

I watched a lot of Bonanza while at work a couple years ago.  I was a painter and the weather was always bad, so we didn't paint much for about a month.  It was a government job, so we got paid whether we paint or not.  We watched a lot of westerns.  Bonanza, Gun Smoke, and The Big Valley.

Many of my friends didn't like Now You See Me, but I enjoyed it enough.  I didn't think it was terrible.  It did well enough that it's going to have a sequel.

Nice, gotta love being paid to watch TV. I got to do that when I was at Disney and if we finished early we got to hang out in the break room and watch TV. I've never heard of Big Valley, but Gunsmoke comes on before Bonanza on TV Land. It wasn't as interesting to me as what was going on in Virginia City.

I messaged you about that SDSU game, that was a good one. I wonder if they made a video like that for Coach Underwood after tonight's SFA game. We won 77-75 in overtime. I have video proof that the crowd watching the game in the student center theater was deafening. lol

We may disagree on shitty fast food joints, but I am rooting for both SDSU and SFASU to advance as far as possible. Laughing

I never watched Bonanza, but is it that or Gunsmoke that is the only show to have survived longer than The Simpsons (and The Simpsons may have become #1 since I read that)?

I enjoyed Now You See Me for what it was: a goofy movie that made no sense without what Sam Harris calls "woo woo," that I wish had been more grounded in reality for some dumb reason, but that my friend and I greatly enjoyed watching at a drive in movie on campus we knew nothing about. The memory is probably what I liked more than the movie, which I only half paid attention to, but I liked what I did pay attention to.

I really liked The Great Gatsby. I even reviewed it on here, and I think you commented about not thinking the score would be good. It didn't bother me, but I can see where you're coming from. I thought the production design was amazing and I liked the story and characters a lot more than I expected I would, but it was a bit long. That Titanic joke would have been a good one, though. I didn't even think of that. Laughing

What cartoons are in that 25 years DC DVD? And you mean when you popped it in when nothing good came on TV, you watched it and fell asleep? Or you missed some of the cartoons before getting the DVD from falling asleep when you watched them and nothing else was on?

Please tell me they had Calrissi or his partner come out of a block of ice and "melt" on the dance floor. I know that was Han Solo, but still.

I need to check if SRIV is on Steam on sale again. I am kicking myself for missing the Need for Speed sales around the movie's release. I intended to dl them right after I got off work and aboboisdaman told me about them and just plain forgot. I also missed out on redeeming my $30 Best Buy thing over Spring Break. Arrrrrgh!

Aloe Blacc has a great voice. No way I could justify getting him on an alternative rock station, but when I heard his songs on the HitDisc I got in, I was sooooooooooooo tempted.

I wonder how much I'd know with a Boston Market, Outback Steakhouse, SFASU Residence Life, Invodo, Moxie Pest Control, Blue Dog Business Services, or KSAU 90.1FM app ... probably less than I should in those cases too. lol On a related note, I saw Saving Mr. Banks last night. Apparently, Mary Poppins was actually pretty fucking dark, or at least P.L. Travers's life was.

I need another SFASU shirt, but they haven't made b-ball specific ones.

I saw that you sent a message but I haven't opened it yet. I'm going through the blogs first to see if I missed anything.

Hey Pixlbit knows we love our shitty fast food! I was rooting for SFA especially on SDSU's floor.

Now You See Me is a fun movie. I wanted more magic, and I now want a sequel. As for Gatsby I really like the arial scenes of NYC, along with that gritty buffer between the city and where Gatsby lived.

I haven't got around to watching the Cartoon DVD yet. I had moments to watch it, but I took a nap instead. I'll probably watch parts throughout the week just to get away from basketball (it's overload for me right now, I have the end of the Creighton game going on my tablet next to my laptop)

Oh man Saints Row IV is by far my favorite of the series...I've only played SR III before this. From what I know about Steam it will be on sale again. I really should get in on PC Gaming.

I think I could make a good run with my time working in the dorms, but I also thought I could do well in the Disneyland trivia game.

Oh the bookstore just released three new shirts. They know how to take money out of alum's wallets.

Disappointing day for my team and my aunt's (Creighton). Sad day. But still, I had a good birthday.

i never got in Bonanza, but like Tami did, I bond with my dad with John Wayne movies and other westerns.

See that's some cool stuff right there. People remember things like bonding times from shows and movies. My uncles loved watching martial arts and action films, and now my brother and I love watching some of these films as campy as they are.

Watched Bonanza frequently with my parents when I was younger. Still catch an episode or two with them when the timing's right.

I think TV land might have made me a fan of Bonanza.
