Troubles with Dark Souls II and the Review

While many of you may or may not know this, I felt rather obligated to share some Pixl-Staff news with you all real quickly here. Nothing too major, but I felt that I needed to address the recent lack of Dark Souls II news and the impending review that I’m sure many of you all have been waiting for.

I’m fairly certain that most of you know that I was supposed to originally be the reviewer of Dark Souls II, but not all things work out the way we expect them to. Turns out that Namco decided to ship a physical copy of Dark Souls II to us instead of the normal review code (which I was excited for naturally), but the problems immediately arose whenever they shipped Dark Souls II to our lovely director here, Nick, instead of me.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem, for Nick has always been good about getting the games to me as they roll in. However, Nick decided to test the waters before shipping it over, and I eventually decided to let Nick keep the game as well as handling the review since he was already diving into the game. I don’t mind though, for I would’ve done the same had I been in his shoes. I couldn’t imagine the tears that would flow if I had to send out a game that I’ve been waiting for for an incredibly long time.

Now mind you, this happened back on March 8th (the game came 3 days early), and today is the starting point of April (Happy Fool’s Day everyone), and we have yet to have a review cranked out for it. Turns out that Nick has been stuck in the tutorial section for over a month now, and he has been unable to progress, hence the lack of review… He’s tried and tried desperately, but so far he has been unable to progress through the introductory Hollows and advance deeper into the world of Dark Souls II.

Long story short though, he’s finally shipping it over to me this afternoon. With heavy tears in his eyes due to constant failures, he has finally given in to the Curse.
Hopefully I’ll be able to get this game cranked out in a few days so you all can have a worthy review.

Have a great day everyone!

That's awesome. Dark Souls II meets reviewer, Dark Souls II wins.Laughing

I  thought the lack of DS news from you was weird. Was looking forward to your review. Other sites I follow that cover DS already finished the game. I havent bought the game yet because I was waiting for the PC version, but I might wait until later in the year. These games sucked a lot of hours from me, talkin hundreds between Demons and Dark, so I'm not in the mood to be pulled in like that at the moment. My impression of the new game is that it is very hard and designed to challenge even the veterans of the game.

I know the blog post was suspicious, but still, PB been kind of hush about DS2 since release. I think I've seen more posts about Final Fantasy X HD and cats than DS2. Even a little blog entry here and there about your progress would be cool. I know I would. I think the game is best enjoyed when played slowly without a deadline. Just take it all in. Have fun with the game guys. I'll be asking for help when I start playing. Cool

Funny enough, Chris and I beat the game this past weekend within an hour of each other. We're planning on doing a recap podcast and Chris is going to be working on the review.

While it hasn't been anything extensive, we've both done some posting in the forum thread on the game, mostly around lore. I wrote up this initial impressions piece, and we've both been tweeting about our progress pretty frequently.

Which is precisely why I was initially confused by this post...  I could have sworn that I saw that both of you have already beaten the game.

Now that April Fools' is over, I can confirm that I thoroughly beat this game mercilessly.

This is good news, it means you guys can get that Flappy Bird rip-off Dark Souls II out of the way and focus on reviewing new hot masterpieces like Goat Simulator and the new Rambo video game. Get on it.

Understandable. Interesting to see how the process works out when it comes to game reviews on pixlbit.
