No, this is not an April Fool's joke. I even thought it was when my older brother sent me the e-mail, but apparently a part of the upcoming movie Draft Day is being filmed at AT&T Stadium, and I got an e-mail from my brother saying he'll be an extra in it. When he told them he had a younger brother and asked if I could be an extra too, they said "the more the merrier," essentially. They had a bit of a post-production mishap of sorts and are really needing to rush this scene, because the movie releases soon apparently. They don't have a lot of resources. The e-mail was from what sounded like a small production co. ... Moacotlan? No, but something similar startin with "M," I don't remember right this second.
So I'll get paid about $100 for the day and get lunch provided this weekend, and if you squint real hard you may even see me in the movie, but the cool part will be getting to meet Kevin Costner. My older brother said it's not official that Costner will be there, as they (stadium) don't want attention being brought to it (apparently to the frustration of the production team, who could use more extras and is asking employees to spread the word since my older bro asked about me joining in), but since he works at the stadium, they went ahead and told him he'd be there for a small meet and greet with the extras and stadium staff that day. Nice!
Now the Costner part is still unofficial, and who knows if he actually does show up or winds up getting dragged to another set that day, but I did receive an e-mail confirming that they'll hire me after I applied from the link in my bro's forwarded e-mail, so it seems we're at least set for $100 easy and some food for a day of walking around and maybe clapping when I hear "action!," so not too shabby.
My older brother was actually in the 2006 film with Mark Wahlberg as an extra in the old Cowboys Stadium, which he did not work at at the time. I can't find him on IMDb, but he was certainly an extra in the movie. He was also in a movie called He's Not Your Son when he was a baby, which was made for NBC and starred Donna Mills. Actually, they may not have used him in the final cut, but my parents say it was his first $75, so whatever. lol You'd think with my college focuses being media-based, I'd be the one doing all extra jobs (to be fair, he was an advertising major, so media-related as well), but no. Just been PA for a few Toys R' Us and Northern Safety or Academy product shoots with Invodo. Go figure.
So very short notice for me, and sounds like the crew will be a bit stressed, but I'll gladly make the three hour trip from Nacogdoches to Arlington for $100, time with family, and some free food.
We'll see how I do when I actually go to L.A. in May.
EDIT: So I think the reason the stadium is trying to be a bit more hush-hush is to clean up Sunday after the Final Four game the day before (film shoot is Sunday); let's see if I can't make this trip a twofer!
