Happy Tuesday folks!

I hope everyone is doing well on what for me, has always been, the worst day of the week.

So I thought I'd post a general blog saying hello as it's been a few weeks since I posted. Life has been really crazy for me lately with work and home. Crazy but a lot of fun. I've been travelling quite a bit for some projects I'm working on; first Memphis a few weeks back and now Chicago & Milwaukee this week. I drove to Chicago yesterday from Pittsburgh and boy, is Chicago a mess to drive into. Far too many lanes for my quiet country roads ass but I think I arrived just before the main rushhour so no complaints.

Homelife has been busy too lately with myself and the wife starting to fill out the house and knock some minor projects off the list. It's making my Saturdays rather tiring but I don't mind so much as it's generally very satisfying when we complete something. It also has the added effect of making the house feel more like our home Smile

As I mentioned in my last blog, I started the FFX HD Remaster on the Vita. Since it's arrival, i've probably only put close to 10 hours in the game which is far less than I thought I would have at this stage. I will say however, that I am having a heck of a lot of enjoyment with the combat system. As I said before, this is my first experience with this entry in the series and my initial excitement has not waned. Inspite of my limited play time, I find myself thinking about the game a lot during the day. I like the availability of all party members during each fight and that each member fulfills a unique role. The only one I've yet to really figure out is Kimahri. I'm not really sure what his deal is but I'll keep using him to see how he develops. I do have a couple of questions I'm hoping the community can help me with: 1) At the moment, i'm keeping every party member involved and levelling them together. Is this the best strategy in this game or can I focus my attention on a smaller group? 2) I've just finished my first game of Blitzball and I wasn't exactly blown away. I understand that you can win weapons from completing more games but is it worth the time investment? 3) When comparing different weapons for each character, I'm not seeing any stats other then what effect they have e.g. Strength +3%. Am I missing something? Seems odd that the weapons themselves wouldn't have stats. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help.

Kimahri

Kimahri - cool looking dude but what's his deal?

Otherwise, I just started the latest Tomb Raider via PS+. I'm only about an hour in but it's both interesting and a lot of fun. I'm not far enough yet to fully grasp the systems in place but looking at the overall game length (11-1/2 hours via howlongtobeat.com), I can see me definitely finishing it out.

Lastly, I've continued drawing as I said I would during BaD. It's great to get back into it. I'm still rubbish but I'm willing to put the effort in to get better. So far, I'm focusing on drawing Scott Pilgrim and cast as it's an easy jumping on point. I might attempt Solid Snake later tonight though if I get back to the hotel early. I'd like to try something a bit more gritty. I do want to put some up online but I haven't decided what website to use yet. Ideally, I'd like a website which only contains peoples artwork but no website is jumping off the page to me. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very appreciative. Once I upload my drawings elsewhere, I'll either post them here or link to there so you guys can check them out. Bear in mind, I suck, but it's fun.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramble of sorts.

Stay happy and focus on positivity everyone.

Later

P.S. I'm working my way through my inbox and there's a lot of interesting blogs I've yet to comment on. I hope to jump in this week and get back in the flow of things. I've been letting my fellow Pixlbits down... Tongue Out

I'm playing FFX too, but I've played it before.  I love the combat system and using all your party members too.  I also haven't really gotten into the swing of what Kimahri is supposed to add though, whereas everyone else is kind of obvious what their role is.

Yeah agreed. I'm sure i'll figure it out eventually as I level him up and unlock more interesting abilities. For now he's just a cool looking dude I guess

1. I found it was best to level my characters together since each individual is useful in one way or another (Pierce attacks, anti-flying, black magic, white magic, etc.)

2. I didn't bother with the Blitzball portion of the game.

3. I honestly don't remember..?
I haven't played this game since 2006, so I'm a bit rusty

Also, you're from Pittsburgh?
That means we're only about 2 hours away from one another

And me makes three for PA here at Pixlbit. Yeah for PA!

Whoa whoa whoa...

You're profile says "Happy Valley".
Does that mean PSU?

KnightDriver

It's Wayne, PA. I sometimes want to make my profile all jokes. It's only part of the way there with: Happy Valley, Happy Core music, born on Xmas. What else can I do to make myself look more silly than I already am? I wonder.

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 10:58 PM

Haha yay for PA. I actually do quite a bit of work out of our Bellefonte office so that's closer again. As for Pittsburgh, yeah i've been here for 3 years now as it's where my wifes from. I really like the city to be honest so I could've done a lot worse. Not naming any places...

I'm at California University of Pa so I am only like an hour away from Pittsburgh. What What!!!!!!

We're up to 4  now so. We've almost enough to form a rather formidable 5 man street gang. I always knew I was destined to roam the back alley's with a Stone Cold Steve Austin strut. Ah so much potential. Names could include such instant classics as Dr. Pixls Genuinely Mean Gang of Truth and Unrelenting Vengeance. Kinda rolls off the tongue huh. I guess I'm open to other suggestions but that's pretty damn good

Oh man I'm in. I'm going to start working on my street fighter moves and tone up. Gotta look good for the cover of our very own video game when it comes out where all of us are greased up and shirtless on the cover. You know, like Two Crude Dudes.

This conversation is full of Win.

By the way, I'm near State College (PSU).
For either of you who don't know, I actually work at PSU, for now.

After living in Milwaukee for a few years now, I do not miss Chicago one bit.  A small trip that would take you an hour in Chicago only takes you 25 minutes in Milwaukee.

I have yet to start FF X.  I played a bit of it way back when, but I don't remember much.  Only the point that I gave up in the game.  I don't even remember blitzball.

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 11:02 PM

Ugh, I really hope I don't get to a similar point.

As for Milwaukee, it seems pretty nice. We had dinner at this restaurant called Wolf Peach tonight which was pretty damn awesome. Annoying thing about travelling for work is that outside of the customers facility, the hotel and some restaurants, I don't get to see much Frown

I need FF X HD. Of course I could always play my PS2 version but where's the fun in that.

Blitzball sucks! That's why I did not get Wakka's ultimate weapon. I did get Tidus and Auron's though. They are worth going for because they break the damage limit and with the right attacks you can cruise through the final battles.

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 11:03 PM

Ok, sounds like I should stick with it then. You know being the massive soccer fan that I am, I assumed I'd like it but it appears to be too damn random for my liking.

right on!  I use howlongtobeat.com as well....it's helped me from getting into some steeper-than-desired gaming time commitments!

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 11:04 PM

Yeah it's really handy for when I'm not sure if I want to bother starting a game. It can also be good motivation to take the plunge. I did just finish Remember Me for that very reason.

how long was Remember Me?  I may have the itch to do some trophy hunting

TheMart22

04/09/2014 at 09:46 PM

Go for it! Pretty decent experience and took me about 10 hours I believe. I actually reviewed the game a few months back so check that out if you feel so inclined. That length of game is right in my wheelhouse for a dumb week or weekend with nothing else to do.

Hey! I'm playing a ton of MLB 14 The Show.

I know what you mean about driving into Chicago. I think it applies to all major cities if you get used to driving around small towns. It's one of those things you have to get used to again.

Sounds like you are keeping busy with some Home Improvement stuff which is fun, sometimes a pain, but fun.

Keep up with the drawing and whenever you start feeling comfortable with your work post some!

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 11:06 PM

Thanks man I will do.

I played some MLB 12 The Show which seemed alright. I'm only just getting fully accustomed with baseball but The Show has tempted me the past few years. I generally really like create a player modes in sports games. I'm telling ya, Shando Morientes was unreal in FIFA 13 Smile

Haha heck yeah! My baseball player Big Daddy Cobra isn't doing too bad in The Show.

Mine usually aren't worth reading if that saves you any time. lol

Sounds like you've been busy, obviously. I do love finishing work around a place of residence. My apartment is so clean. Got me sick doing it, but almost kinda worth the stress relief of having an uncluttered place.

I'd love to see your drawings. I suck too, but I'd like to get back into it.

O'Hare Airport is a bitch and I'm pretty sure I've driven in Illinois where you're talking about too. Luckily, living near Dallas all my life, I'm used to city driving, but living in Nacogdoches much of the year definitely makes driving easier. lol Plus, Dallas is more confusing to drive in than anything, but at most there's about 4-5 lanes, where Chicago has like 10 sometimes if I recall correctly.

I need to get back to Tomb Raider as well. I'm not sure how far into it I am, but while I can understand how people say it holds your hand too much and has too many QTEs, I'm still just stunned by the graphics in general and find the gameplay pretty accessible.

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 11:10 PM

Yeah before I moved to Pittsburgh, my college commute of 25 mins seemed almost unbearable haha. You can get used to anything though. Also, I should get around to posting in the next few weeks. It's kinda like the first time I posted here, it takes time to build up the courage.

And you're far too modest Joe, your blogs aren't that bad Tongue Out

I have not played this game since it originaly came out so its a bit foggy. But I had some of the same issues. The lack of real stats for weapons always annoyed me. Blitzball, I really tried to figure it out but it seemd like the other team was always over powered compared to my team and I could not win enough to get my team better. Toward the end I think I focused on Auron and the Summoner, along with blondie. Honestly this is my least favorite FF game for some of the very issues you just mentioned. Getting all the ultimate weapons is damn near impossible. You will see what I am talking about when you get to that point. Anyway if your enjoying it, thats all that matters. I have "issues" with this game, so please try to ignore my jaded bitterness.lol Innocent

Haha I'll try stay positive for the time being. I've had a great deal of fun so far so unless things take a weird shift, I can see this being up there with 7 & 8 in my mind. Also, this is really a great game on the Vita. Between this and Persona 4 Golden, I'm really catching up on some PS2 JRPGs

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake that I did with Kimarhi. He can kind of go into any area of the sphere grid from where he begins, and I thought I'd make him a black mage since magic is so useful. Bad idea. He was a terrible mage and a weak fighter. This time around I have him going through part of Tidus' section on the way to Auron.

TheMart22

04/08/2014 at 11:17 PM

Ah! To be honest, I had no idea that the sphere grids overlapped. I'll have to take more time to review what's around me when I'm making my choices. As it stands I've just gone for what looked good closest without too much looking forward. I'm glad you told me that when I'm still early on.

mothman

04/09/2014 at 08:24 AM

Oh and Kimahri. think of him as a Dragoon of sorts. He can use jump and if I remember correctly he can learn the abilities of enemies which is kind of cool.

I used all of them for a while but my end game party was  Auron, Yuna and Lu if I remember correctly and my concentration was on those three and Tidus.

The Sphere grid lets you grow them any way you want. I had fun seeing how complete I could make each team member.

TheMart22

04/09/2014 at 02:57 PM

Thanks for the info. My lack of experience with a Dragoon class would explain why it didn't jump out to me. I think I'll keep spreading the wealth for now but it's good to know I can focus on my favorite's later and not be destroyed. I wasn't sure if you were forced to split up the team later on in the game

04/09/2014 at 03:10 PM

I don't recall splitting up in FF X but it was a long time ago.

I've been trying to get back into drawing again as well, I'm worse than I remember but that could just be because I'm way out of practice.

Deviantart is very much the most obvious choice for artwork, though you have to put up with some nasty people and there's the fear that someone might stole your artwork and claim it's his. Still, not a bad choice.

You can also use Tumblr since the tagging allows your works to have better exposure than in Deviantart and you can just have a simple art blog there and it isn't necesary to be involved that much in the site if you don't want to. Besides, if you know your basic HTML coding or HTML in general, you can customize the theme of your blog for your liking, either the oficial ones, the ones created by users or websites outside Tumblr or even create your own page.

TheMart22

04/18/2014 at 08:02 AM

Thanks for the info Alex, I think I might give tumbler a look at this weekend. I was thinking about Deviantart but its a little intimidating

Alex-C25

04/18/2014 at 09:05 AM

Deviantart is not bad if you are in the right place, but like I said, it's harder for your artwork to get noticed among the millions of pieces around the site.

Driving in Chicago was never fun for me. Whenever I got the chance I just drove around it. Sure it took longer but the roads didn't seem that busy and I dodged the tolls.

More FFX you say. hmmmmmm......

TheMart22

05/23/2014 at 11:54 AM

Yeah the tolls heading into Chicago are criminal. Two separate tolls once you enter Illinois I believe. Terribly lame.
