Today was the long awaited Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct and let me tell you, it was awesome.

Here is my favorite parts and some thoughts:

THE 3DS version will be coming this summer, which is cool because we can play it sooner. I'm really excited. But the Wii U version will be coming on winter this year. It's cool since you wont be crying to your wallet, but the reality is that the 3DS version will outsell the Wii U version. Which is bad since what Nintendo wants is more Wii U sales.

Stages will still be exclusive to each version, like handheld stages only on the 3DS and console stages only on the Wii U. That is cool because it gives you one reason to pick up both. And each stage will have music that you can select or that will play when you start up a stage. 2 songs on the 3DS version per stage, and more on the Wii U.

If I remember correctly, some stages will have bosses. The Yellow Devil will be a stage boss that you can defeat and use to your advantage during fights.

Smash Run is a mode exclusive to the 3DS that works like a City Trial of Kirby's Air Ride. Here you fight bad guys and collect power ups for 5 minites then at the end you go to an arena. Pretty cool, even baddies from various games make appearances here.

Assist Tophies are back and there are some really awesome ones too. My favorites were Midna and Dark Samus.

New Characters were revealed, Zero Suit Samus is back is in her Other M design and got some new moves too. She is a separate character now. Sheik is also a seperate character. She also has new moves. Yoshi returns, Charizard returns as a separate character, and Greninja is a new fighter. I guess it's safe to assume Pokemon Trainer and Jigglypuff wont make a return. It also seems cheating that Sheik and Zero Suit Samus are separate characters, it feels like a cheap way of making the roster bigger. I'll say it could be the limitations of the 3DS. Well there's nothing we can do now.

Yeah, they said something like Mega Man's co-star, so I wonder if X and co. seen charging up with him don't unleash Zero.

I liked Little Mac's piece and Zero Suit Samus's cool golden space heel-boots. Most of all I liked the shadow of Ridley indicating he'll be a boss character like the Yellow Devil, and I like the boss concept as well as the 5-minute item hunt mode as well. I think I might get a 3DS just for this game.

It's also cool that Final Destination doesn't have to be so boring now that different skins are available for it, and the Fun Mode and Glory Mode make sense, so casual and hardcore players don't have to get mixed up in the same matches. However, I'm confused how exactly that points system isn't almost same thing as ranking or why they're so averse to ranking, but I enjoyed the video overall.

Greninja was the highlight for me. I'm more of a Chesnaught guy, but I'd much rather use that ninja frog since I prefer fast characters. Excited for both versions, think the Wii U in Fall will really help push consoles better than a summer release

I like that Shiek is a separate character now from Zelda. I know to others it was cheap to do but I personally prefer them separate. I didt consider Sheik as Zelda during my kid years in TLOZOOT I thought Sheik was a dude. Now I know now that there the same person but i still prefer them separate. I hated having to play as double Zelda with my sister to play as Sheik so this will work in my favor.

I find myself excited about this game. I am going to miss Solid Snake though. He was my favourite character so far.

Yay for Midna, though I think Dark Samus would have been a good character for the rooster.

I'm still hoping to maybe see the Pokemon Trainer, even if it is not Gen 1. That said, awesome Charizard and Greninja are characters. Though it kinda breaks the tradition, I don't really mind Sheik being separate, i'm actually glad to see Zero Suit Samus as separate (though I don't like the heels of the Other M design) and with Yoshi we finally have the original 8.
