Hello Pixlbit!

I hope everyone has had a good day/week so far. Lately I've been watching videos on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn because the PS4 version releases on Monday. When the game came out last year, I didn't pay attention to it because it had a monthly subscription. I liked the MMO aspect to it, but I couldn't justify paying a monthly fee. When the beta showed up in the PSN, I tried to play it. I had some problem with logging into my Square Enix account so I just gave up and deleted the beta.

The whole day today I've been seeing videos of the game and I have to admit, it's starting to grow on me. Seeing the prices for the subcription cards, they didn't seem too bad for a price. Yet in the back of my mind the monthly fee is still holding me back from buying it. I looked into getting the Collector's Edition thinking it would come with a year subscription or even a few months, but unfortunately it doesn't. Not unless I missed something. So as I look at it, the game sits at $40 plus tax and $30 for a two month online card. I'm not sure if there's a card that has more than two months, but please inform me.

So what do you ladies and gentlemen think? This would be my second MMO and my third Final Fantasy title to own. I've played DC Universe Online since the servers are free now and it runs better on the PS4, but I didn't play it as much since it didn't really interest me. I'm wondering if FFXIV will eventually be free to play like DCUO did. I'll also note that I've never completed a FF game before so I'm not sure if this game will tie to any of the previous titles. So please let me know your thoughts and opinions about this. Thanks!

BEYOND!

I got in on the ground floor of DCUO, levelled up to endgame and then quit after the first month...too much commitment for me!

the subscription does suck.  I don't know if it's going to go free or not.

I do know it's a fun game, as I played it a bit, and I do plan on playing it again and paying the subscription once I get a new computer.  If you like it, it's worth it.

Anyway, you can play a month for free to decide whether or not you like it, so there's that.

Yeah I read it comes with a free month. What I'm afraid of is playing it and not really enjoying it. I know I can't trade it in anywhere and I don't know anyone who's willing to buy the game because of the monthly subcription so I'm just wondering if it's worth the chance. Like I said, it will be my second MMO. I consider it my first because I didn't really put that much time into DCUO.

I doubt it will go free, not anytime soon atleast. The game is making too much for them to drop it to free. I say its worth it. Im enjoying Early Access to it and loving it. Got 2 characters to level 10 so far so now working on crafting guilds. Snee is right, though, you get a month free when you buy it. I say if you have spare cash and really wanna give it a go, go for it. Just dont buy a time card until you know your gonna stay into it. if do join in, Im on Famfrit if you ever wanna game on it.

I was actually hoping you would post a comment on this because I remember reading your post about the game. If the game was $60 then I would definitely not get it, but since it's $40 there's a little bit of room to buy the monthly subscription. Like I said in my post, I've never finished a FF game and never got into an MMO. I've played DCUO, but not to an extent. A few hours maybe. For a new player into both series, do you think it's worth buying?

I also think of the $60 games I buy (I would assume others relate to this) that can be passed within a few days or weeks and I end up putting it on my shelf and not playing them to the point where I want to trade them. With this, I see a $40 game that I can play for a month for free and if I don't like it, I can put it on the shelf, wait a bit and then play it again sometime and pay the time card. Better than trading in a $60 game I passed and then buying it back for $54 just to play it again.
