Keeping Myself in Check, Like the Mak Daddy Would

So I kinda fucked my diet the day before I take my weekly "fat check" picture.

I don't totally regret it, as the Mak Jak Burger, Garlic Parmesan fries, gin & tonic, Left Hand Milk Stout, and couple of my DJ's wings (he suggested the place and I payed for us both cause he's low on $) I had were delicious.

This was all at the new Maklemore's restaurant in Nacogdoches, TX, the city where SFASU is located, which is where I'm getting my M.A. in Mass Communications.

The owner said it's just a random name, and the waiter also said it had nothing to do with the rapper, but ... hmmm ... I dunno if I buy that. I know Ben Haggerty's name was shortened from "Professor Macklemore," which is what he was called after drinking and getting crazy with friends in NY. I wish the restaurant had a cool story like that, but oh well. I'm still not convinced it's not just the rapper Ben Haggerty's stage name without the "c," but I guess it could just be a random name. I guess.

For as much as I doubt the name is random though, I hope they stay in business. It's a great place.

Anyway, I figured I'd keep myself more accountable tomorrow by posting my fucked nutrition intake from today as well as what I need to do tomorrow to get back on track. So here:

4/14/14

Eating

Monterey Jack Cheeseburger/Mak Jack Burger 1200, 60

garlic parmesan fries - 350, 6

Gin and Tonic - 171

Left Hand Milk Stout - 270

Pop Tarts - 410, 4

Exercise

Lunges - 3x20(each leg) with 25lb dumbbells

Bicep Curls - 5x10 (each arm) with 30lb weights

Overhead Press - 5x10 with 70lbs

Planks 3x60s

4/15/14

Eating

Calorie Limit: 1600, Protein Needs: 220

Exercise

Work Out: Sprint Hills, 20s each, x3

Luckily, cardio doesn't take long at all, and I can easily get my nutrition in by way of protein powder, even though I hate drinking that stuff. They were out of the strawberry kind at Wally World and the Peanut Butter is ... blegh. I may take my "fat check" pic Wednesday morning, taking into consideration my fucked diet today. I had planned for all the stuff at Maklemore's, but apparently having a dollar in my pocket makes me need to buy a package of two cherry pop tarts. I hate myself sometimes.

In other news, I watched The Fifth Estate in my Ethics class today. I'm not sure why it has a 37% on RottenTomatoes, but I liked it. It certainly didn't sugar-coat the dangers of Assange (played excellently by Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wikileak's no-editing policy, nor did it paint the people trying to stop him as totally innocent or just as total assholes. It portrayed everyone realistically as humans, and that's mostly what I wanted.

Some of the direction is a bit much and I suppose other viewers might want to watch less conversations behind computers or hear cringe-worthy lines like "welcome to the revolution" being spoken in normal conversation. I rolled my eyes at that and a few other things, but I still liked the overall movie quite a bit.

Well, I'll go read why those other people disliked it so much before heading to bed. I feel obligated to come in early tomorrow, having also fucked up by not doing something at work on time. Then I need to drive my ex-gf into work as I also failed to do today.

You leave your phone on silent out of courtesy for other people in a theater and you wake up to missed calls and alarms. Even the one I set on my DS didn't wake me.

Well, ciao, and here's to a better tomorrow.

Sometimes I think it's good to actually NOT eat healthy every once in a while.  Life's too short not to enjoy a burger every now and then.

You do a better job of keeping track of your diet and exercise than I do.  I just do what I can, when I can.  Anyway, it's time for me to eat my Cheerios, go lift weights, turn into Super Cary, and go to work. :)

I do eat unhealthy every once in a while, but this is a special couple weeks where I was trying not to do it. Honestly, I don't really eat that healthy by many standards, I just stay within my calories and get my protein. Trust me, there's lots of burgers in that equation no matter what day it is, just not restaurant ones. lol

I'm barred from eating cereal though, cause they have too little protein for too many calories. I have eaten some Reese's Puffs when I've had room, though. I miss Cheerios. lol

I'm still struggling with my soda intake. I never thought giving up soft drinks would become an insurmountable challenge in my life. lol. I also cannot point a finger over hamburgers because I have a weakness for them as well. Embarassed

Have you tried zero calorie options like Coke Zero or Diet Dr. Pepper? I rarely drink soda now, cause I've started to prefer water anyway (you'll get there after a while), but when I do indulge, I get zero calorie stuff.

I eat burgers all the time and stay within my calories. Burgers are actually one of the main things I eat, and if you're cooking these yourself Ben, you should be fine. It's only the extra stuff they add to restaurant burgers and the size of them that makes them so calorific. Usually, I'll get patties at the University caf that are 330, 22.

Yeah, knixed out going to most fast food places a long time ago. When I eat a burger it's home-made.

As for soda it's the caffeine I'm craving. I'll still try wheening myself on the zero brands though. If it worked for you it might work for me! Before I attempted to go "cold turkey" as opposed to a gradual transition. It's probably why I failed.

I always liked water, so it wasn't as hard for me, I guess. My taste buds now honestly don't like coke etc., I just feel cheated when I get a combo at a restaurant and get water. I mean, they're cheating me either way with that 300% death syrup mark-up, but still.

I do still like sweet tea though.

As for caffeine, coffee has a negligible amount of calories when  taken straight, just brush your teeth well. I've done that many a work day. Also, Exxons sell delicious French Vanilla coffee extremely cheap. Seriously, it's like $1.70 for 2 12. oz cups of the stuff and it destroys Starbucks, easily.

mmmm that sounds good.

that movie sounds interesting.  Cumberpatch is great.  that issue is so politically charged though, so it's no wonder it's reviews are so bad.  IN twenty years from now, we'll all have a different perspective on that stuff.

Looking at the reviews, it's not that it was too politically charged, it was, as I suspected, mostly bitching about the direction. Look people, they did this stuff in front of their laptops, of course that's where they'll be shown. I was captivated enough by the ideas that this didn't bother me.

And it was good. It was all worth it, except the pop tarts, which were great, but not 410 calories worth.

Well, you have to cut loose every now and then. And that sounds really good, I think it would take an inhuman level of self contol not to indulge in some gormet junk food. Smile

The thing is I eat foods people would consider "cutting loose" all the time, but these couple of weeks are supposed to be where we really check on my progress. Ooops.

Hey I learned Macklemore's real name,

That cheeseburger and fries meal sounds good. I think you just took your cheat day a little early. Just as long as you don't have that everyday, I think you could bounce back.

Yeah, he references it in "Irish Celebration."

Yeah, I'll bounce back, I just need to watch myself.

If you hit the gym a lot, I think it's okay to eat junk every now and then. It's when you eat junk and sit all day for weeks without exercise that causes problems.

It's a specific regimen that includes both my dieting and exercise staying pretty consistent. I've been in shape a while, but I want a six pack, and that means dieting really well even with lots of exercise. Technically, I don't even think it's healthy to lose as much fat as you need to for what I'm attempting, but I don't care, I want abs dammit. lol

that burger and fries sounds delectable.  I wish I had a burger and fries, right now!

I think burger and fries may be my favorite meal.

04/15/2014 at 10:57 PM

Amen to that.  Have you put a fried egg on a burger yet?  Dude I did that at a Red Robin a few months back and it totally changed my life, lol.

The Royal Red Robin yeah? Red Robin changed my life by introducing me to blue cheese burgers. I always get their Blue Ribbon Burger with the tangy steak sauce, blue cheese, fried onion straws and special bun.

That Bleu Burger...shit's heavenly.

I've been eating pretty healthy now, but as soon as I start gaming, I start thinking of foods like ice cream, cheese steaks, burgers, and deli delights. I controlled myself last weekend, but I still have to do better. I'm struggling with exercise as well. I did it on the weekend, but during the week it's been tough to fit in.

Is there an alarm on the 3DS? I use alarms all the time to get more done. I'm going to have to look in my 3DS for that.

There's on on DS, so I'd think so.

You're definitely doing a better job of keeping track of what you eat than I do. Though I'm sure I'm eating at least a little better than I did a bunch of years ago.

Yeah, but I have my "fuck it" days, especially on holidays.
