Movie Watch List Monday

After I present my paper today at 4pm, I'll be done with my Media Law & Ethics class in which we watched a shit-ton of movies we wrote papers over, plus two term papers, one over law (mine was specifically about patent-trolling) and this most recent one over eithics (mine was specifically about book-burning).

So in honor of that and because it makes for a good alliterative title, here's a list of the movies I'm definitely gonna try to catch in theaters, regardless of reviews, in 2014.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The reboot impacted me nowhere near as much as the Raimi original, but I still dug most of the changes and look forward to the new series' continuation

Godzilla: Holy shit, this looks amazing. I seriously want to see it in IMAX 3D, though that may not be realistic on my budget. It'll still look great in regular 2D though, I bet.

X-Men: Days of Future Past: Looks like the best X-Men movie yet to me.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: I unexpectedly loved Rise, so I look forward to this.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1: I read the books and Mockingjay was my favorite of them, despite being many peoples' least favorite. It'll be cool to see Seymour Hoffman's last role as well and I wonder where they'll put the cliffhanger. I know where I'd put it ... even though I'm pissed about there being a cliffhanger at all, cause the book was about the same length as the orther two. Stupid Deathly Hallows movies, setting the precedent for YA adaptations to have two endings.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: Despite being an odd mix of bored with the plots of and captivated by the action and characters of most of Jackson's interpretations, I really loved Desolation of Smaug, and I'm looking forward to the movie conclusion of the only Tolkien book I've ever finished.

There's other movies this year I want to see or wanted to see but couldn't, but they're in a maybe pile. This list only includes the ones I'm definitely seeing in theaters.

I'd love to see your lists if you have them.

There's a couple others I'm pretty hyped for, but reviews could sway me against, like Guardians of the Galaxy and Interstellar

For No Good Reason: docu about artist Ralph Steadman
May:
Godzilla
Maleficent: fantasy flick staring Angelina Jolie, but I see Sharlto Copley in the cast and I love him. He was the lead in District 9, Howling Mad Murdock in the A-Team movie, and Kruger in Elysium.
June:
Edge of Tomorrow: Tom Cruise scifi flick. He wears a roboticly enhanced suit that looks super cool in the trailers.
How to Train your Dragon 2: Loved the first one. Won't miss this in 3D.
July:
Jupiter Ascending: A Wachowski movie. 'nuff said.
August:
Guardians of the Galaxy: Loved the trailer. Can't Wait.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For: Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez? Oh yeah!
September:
Box Trolls: Animation that looks like stop-motion or Aardman claymation. Must see.
October:
Get On Up: Docu on James Brown. I wanna see his band, most notably, bassist Bootsy Collins.
Nov: ?
Dec:Hobbit movie for sure.

I'll likely catch For No Good Reason on Netflix or DVD. I love docs, but rarely see them in theaters, if ever.

Maleficent is in my hyped-for-it-but-reviews-could-keep-me-away pile.

I'll have to watch an Edge of Tomorrow trailer. I never did see Oblivion, which looked cool. Jack Reacher was boring as shit, though. I couldn't make it through that one.

I liked the first How To Train Your Dragon, but not as much as everyone else. Maybe cause taking a date to see it in 3D cost $22 at the time. lol I'll see it if I'm in the mood or have another date. haha

Wachowski movie is not enough said for my tastes. I like V for Vendetta, but I came to the Matrix party way later and wasn't wowed. I kinda want to see Cloud Atlas, though. And Speed Racer

Guardians of the Galaxy was on this list until I realize I know nothing about it except for the trailer and was only hyped by how hyped everyone else seems to be. We'll see.

I liked the original Sin City, but I felt it dragged and left me a bit empty really. Didn't know Rodriguez was attached to the sequel, but it's in the hyped-but-maybe pile as well.

Claymation is one of those things where I greatly respect it but don't always like it.

And my feelings about documentaries still stands regarding James Brown.

I see everything in the theaters now. I even got rid of my Netflix. I just didn't have the time for it. I am going to rent a few movies from the library though because I just have to see them: The Blue Max and Gentlemen Broncos.

Never heard of those.

Blue Max is a WWI flick with lots of real biplane footage. I want to see that.

Gentlemen Broncos is about a kid who goes to writers camp and has his story stolen by his writer hero. It's a comedy by the makers of Napoleon Dynamite.

I really want to see the Godzilla movie.  I'd like to see the Capt. America, Spider Man, and X-Men movies, but we'll see.  I have no interest in The Hobbit or The Hungry Games.  I don't know any other movies.

You win the prize for being the very first person to make that "hungry games" joke. lol Tongue Out

I can tell you Cap is worth it, just go in expecting an odd mix of dark and violent espionage thriller with goofy-as-hell comic book plot with a Futurama-esque supercomputer and you're set.

I always call it Hungry Games.

The main challenge anymore is trying to find a way to GET to the movie theater.

I really wanna see the the last installment to the hobbit but I'm not exactly in love with the title now. It's not a big deal of course but I did like the original title. I'll prolly go see it with my dad, he introduced me to to The Lord of the Rings world. I read the Hobbit a long time ago and while it doesn't follow the book well there still good movies, which is shocking.

Another movie pick for this year is The Grand Budapest Hotel flick. It looks like it will be freaking hilarious! Other then those 2 I'm not interested in much, maybe Godzilla once it actually releases but for now I'm holding off on it.

I agree about the title. They're making the original title the title of the box set. The reason it doesn't follow the book is cause it also puts stuff from the Simarillion in there to pad it out.

I haven't seen a trailer for Grand Budapest, but I do want to see it.

As for Godzilla, don't you kinda have to hold off on it before release? lol

I ment that I'll wait and see what others say about it, before I decide about seeing it,lol if it doesn't seem good I'll wait for bluray/DVD release.

I know, I was just giving you crap. lol I think it'll get good reviews, though. Cranston = credibility at this point in his career and the effects look impressive.

Good list, I'm going to check out Godzilla and X-Men. I'm keeping my streak of not watching the Hunger Games movies in the theaters going. At some point I'm going to binge watch them. You would think for someone who read the books would watch but I'll wait a bit.

Also HELL F'N YEAH on finishing a class! Congrats man! Patent trolling is a pain especially with podcasts right now, When I used to listen to TWiT that would always be a topic, and now Adam Carolla got dragged into it.

All I can say is keep going after the first one, which is good for a first-try adaptation especially, but doesn't really hold up.

I saw that Adam Carolla had a Kickstarter specifically to win a suit against a patent troll. Hope he pulls it off.

I still haven't seen the new Captain America yet, so it's on my list. As well as Amazing Spider-Man 2 and a couple others I can't recall.

Intersteallar is one I'm thinking of seeing, but we'll see how reviews pan out.

The first three have been out for a while now, actually. This blog was written some time ago. The Planet of the Apes one is coming July 11, last two are in Fall/Winter.
