Quick Hits: Chris Buys A Lot Of Music

Oh Pixlbit, I just saw the weather forecast for today and it’s going to hit triple digits. Last week it was 70. Following the tread from last week, I blame Romo. Anyways hello Pixlbit guys and gals, it’s Friday, the happiest day of the week. I’m happy because the weekend is here for me, even though I have a couple of minor things to take care of, I’m staring at an afternoon filled with video game baseball, and maybe a steak for dinner. So how are you folks? Anything good happen this week? I had a couple of fun things happen and that will be the topics covered in today’s Quick Hits!

Chris Finds A New Game

I don’t know how I found this game. It was either through a random YouTube video, or someone telling me, but I’ve been hooked on this game for the past couple of days

Spirit Stones is a lot like Marvel Puzzle Quest and other colored block games, except I can create crazy chains with little bonus items. When done correctly combos can occur and everyone in your party gets in on the beat downs.

You can also upgrade and add to your party’s cards, which make them stronger. This part of the tutorial I should have paid more attention to but I kind of got the hang of it a couple of battles in. There are other things you earn within battles like cards that could combine to create a tougher fighter, and weapons that boost your skills.

The early Boss Battles are fine, nothing too difficult and can be defeated the first time around.

The one drawback I see with this game is that each battle costs a certain amount of lightning bolts and you’re only allowed a certain number per hour. This number is increased as you increase your level.

This game is a lot of fun, and when I’m not chasing the next level in 2048 (we’re currently not talking after my tablet thought my swipe one way meant the other way and ruined a good chance to hit the 4096 tile).

My Other Tablet Games

Simpsons Tapped Out

There was another update and I finally hit level 40

There were some new goodies to unlock including two new teachers. I bought the premium character

Currently he is at odds with Smithers about another musical at Springfield Elementary about Malibu Stacy.

Family Guy Quest For Stuff

It’s still slow moving, and they are having another one of their deals

I guess this week’s episode is circus themed.

This screen had me laughing last night

In my Quahog, I unlocked the seaport and I am currently building the Aquarium so I can unlock Meg.

Simpsons Stuff

This episode will probably be the first new one I will watch in probably a year.

Local Target raised the prices on their Lego minifigs

And I got caught up in the hype, because I really would like to complete this set

Not bad five packs, zero copies. Marge is the easiest to pick out by touch because of her head.

So before we get started with my music pickups, this is a first for me, I’ve never seen this popup on my iPod

I still haven’t updated those apps.

Music Pickups!

Over the past couple of trips to random thrift stores I think I’ve found some cool stuff. My first find was at a thrift shop next to a donut shop (I wanted a maple bar)

I always found these types of albums interesting because you get to listen to some of the big calls that went on during that season, and interesting interviews of the players.

I found the JFK album at the same thrift store as the A’s World Series Season. I’d like to copy this album along with my album with the NASA audio from the first moon landing to iTunes, and then have them framed. The JFK album is a collection of speeches he made, with the last one being in Dallas.

While here I also found a handful of CDs

I finally replaced my audio cassette of the Empire Records soundtrack, apparently I didn’t already own Fugees The Score, and added some 90s stuff. The version of Sugarhigh in the Empire Records film is superior to the album version because of Renee Zellweger’s singing. There were some lines that were changed but otherwise still my favorite version.

There was a point in high school where I bought the Reality Bites, Empire Records, and a couple of other soundtracks because they had a bunch of songs I really liked. Love this soundtrack!

I forgot to add this to last week’s QH, so I’ll add it here.

Picked it up because I like some of her songs, and remember when she was discovered off of MySpace?

Yesterday while running around on the other side of the valley I decided to stop in at a thrift store I rarely visit and left with more music

Apparently I’m on a Sugar Ray kick because I picked up another one of their albums, along with Hanson (ooh my late 90s library is getting a gen in a one hit wonder). I also picked up Toad the Wet Sprocket because this album has the single Crazy Life, which is one of my favorite songs from Empire Records (have I mentioned how much I liked this soundtrack?), and how do you not buy a Xena Television Soundtrack?

I decided to hit the local mall for lunch (pizza) something cheap (pizza), tasty (pizza), and “healthy” (pizza’s garlic dipping sauce). While there I stopped at the mom & pop to check out if they had any leftover Record Store Day stuff. I talked to the owners and it turns out they just marked down a bunch of the leftover singles. He was telling me that for RSD they tend to put in a big order because they usually get 10% of that but this time he got a bunch in, so there was some leftovers. I added a couple that I missed and thought was interesting

I bought another copy of Haim, this time it was $7 bucks and this copy I opened

Looks like I’ll have that remix on my iPod after all.

I also bought the Bastille picture disc Of The Night

Which is a mashup of two early 90s songs Rhythm of the Night and Rhythm is a Dancer. I didn’t know much about this single except I kept seeing it on Instagram, and wanted to give it a try. This one dropped to $10.

The final two are 7” that I missed the first time, but after watching some video of other people’s pickups during RSD, they were interesting because of the concept

The Side By Side singles are one song done by two different bands. Each single has their own original label, and the clear package is the song The Badge performed on one side by Pantera and the other side by Poison Idea. The second SBS is a mystery 7”. This one is intriguing because I bought it without knowing who it is. Spoiler on which artists are on this single.

Before I called it a day I did find a couple of CDs to add to the iTunes library

The dark album is Paul’s Boutique by the Beastie Boys, 311’s Music, and LFO because of the single “Summer Girls.” That song is so chessy bad, it had to be added to part of my “Ultimate 90s” Playlist.

I have a ton of new music which is always a good thing, especially in time for the weekend! Before we end this blog, yesterday while sitting by the lake a couple of my neighbors decided to walk by me a couple of times. I think they wanted bread.

I think they probably said “stupid human” when I said I had no bread.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Dang you did buy a lot of music, found some awesome buys though by the looks of it. Ive kind of gotten back into collecting cds since playing music through my phone on my truck would cost $80 bucks, lol! I still buy digital too though. Amazon offers Auto Rip now which gives you the MP3 verison free which I find awesome.

My mom loves ducks, if we go anywhere and she knows there are some around she takes a bag of bread with her. Your neighbors are adorable ^_^

Thanks! I saw that Amazon offers that, it's a cool feature especially when you're waiting for your CDs to arrive. I still buy digital but I usually wait for sales from Google Play Store and Amazon. I bought a ton of Classical from Amazon especially when they have the 100 tracks for .99. Lots of cool stuff for super cheap.

You should have bought a Bread vinyl and thrown that at the ducks.

One of their songs I like...and because of the commercial, I now wants Lays chips.

Don't feed them bread! It's bad for them. Won't kill them (in small amounts), but is completely lacking in any sort of nutrition they can use. The link goes to a very informative website.

Well heck I didn't know this. You would think the HOA would mention this. Thanks for sharing this, I should pick up some birdfeed next time I go out.

Maybe they weren't calling me Stupid Human now Tongue Out

Yup, the crazy thing is Lego also created The Simpsons House. It's too pricey for me, but it's a nice set.

These would be awesome stocking stuffers!

I completely forgot about that Lego-themed Simpsons episode. Maybe I'll check if it hit On Demand or something.

I think the Fox App might have it...or if you have Hulu+ it should be there.
