My First Quarter of 2014

I played a lot of games this first quarter. The first quarter always feels the second wind for the holiday season of games. This one was no different. March was especially stacked with big games like Dark Souls 2, Titanfall, and Infamous 2.

I wasn't able to play everything or get everything I wanted. I missed out on South Park: Stick of Truth that everyone says is good. I also missed out on Bravely Default which everyone says is like a real Final Fantasy title. I am sad I don't have either of those titles. I have these though...

gamesofmarch

  • TitanfalI: Collector's Edition
  • Infamous: Second Son
  • Mercenary Kings
  • Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition
  • Final Fantasy X HD Remaster: Collector's Edition
  • Dark Souls 2
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  • Last of Us: Left Behind
  • Wolf Among Us Episodes 2 and 3
  • Bioshock Infinite Episode 2

Side Note: Bought Child of Light but yet to play it.

I also went back and played Tales of Xillia after a long absense and bought the digital version of Ni No Kuni which was very cheap. I still don't want to open my wizard edition.

Now I enjoyed a lot of games this quarter. Titanfall has been a blast and parkour aspect has been a blast and does enough to stay unique. Infamous 2 was a beauty with creative powers to play with. Left Behind was an incredible written and fun experience. The little lighting effect utilizing a flash light is so impressive. Ground Zeroes has me stoked for Phantom Pain. It was and is gorgeous and fleshed with so many amazing details. Hideo Kojima still has it! I loved relieving every moment of Final Fantasy X in its HD visuals.

A enjoyed many games the first quarter but nothing to the extent of Dark Souls 2. This series seriously has the level creativity of Zelda titles in hidden areas. It is impressive in hiding shortcuts for yourself to in act and every area is original with their own set of incredibly designed enemies. The boss fights like the past games are all unique. There is nothing not to like about this game! The visuals might not live up to many other games but it still incredible in its art design. I might talk more about this game. It is easily my favorite game this year. What was your favorite game so far?

Note: The rumors of a spirtual successor to Demon Souls rises again. The rumored Project Beast is seing more and more real. I hope so. If any game right now would make me go crazy for excitement, its more Souls. I know Dark Souls 3 is inevitable. I though can't get enough!

Bravely default is well worth your time. The second half is repetitive but the story unfolds as you go. I was leary of tackling the final boss battle because it is long and requires a lot of strategy but after finishing it I'm really glad I did. The ending and the teaser video for the sequel is really cool.

I picked up Child of Light too. I put money in my wallet for the PSN flash sale and then decided not to buy anything. Played the demo of CoL and decided it was worth a purchase.

I wish I could afford it but I can't right now. There are games down the road I am afraid I can't afford. I have about 9 games paid off so it seems like I can but they are more priority titles than Bravely Default which I hope I can get during Black Friday or something. Typically I don't get a game if I haven't bought it in the first few days but seeing that I am now unemployed, I would miss too much to continue doing that.

Dark Souls 2 is going on my Steam wishlist along with the first.

The first? You got to be kidding me! When is this wish list going to come true?

When they're both like $5 and everyone else is done probably. That's when I bought Arkham Asylum anyway. It was on the Winter Sale last year. lol

I'm waiting to give Dark Souls 2 a try until I beat the first one and see it on a Steam sale. Picked up 1 for $5 even though I hated Demon's Souls and it changed just enough for me to enjoy the good in these games. As of now I'd say my GOTY is Titanfall and I normally have a really hard time sticking with an online FPS.

Hated Demon's Souls, huh? Your lucky I like you. I love Titanfall but after I made 2nd generation pilot I stopped and started other games.

That is a serious backlog. I think Dark Souls 2 looks amazing on PC. I know you aren't a PC gamer, but it's really gorgeous and I'm glad I waited. It truly is the definitive version for me. I can't believe E3 is so close now.

Yeah but I am finished with Final Fantasy X and Infamous Second Son. Those are two games out of the way now. I finished all the DLC for the games I mentioned. The thing that will hold me back is Ni No Kuni and Tales of Xillia. Tales of Xillia is no joke. I get pounded by some of the bosses in that game.

As for Mercenary Kings and Dead Nation, I don't put them in my pile of shame because I just play them for kicks. I only play them for about 30 to 45 minutes at a time. I have to real motivation to beat them. With all this said, I do have a pretty big list. Getting Final Fantasy X off the list makes things more smoother for me. As for Dark Souls 2, its like fine wine. I am in no rush.

I have Dead Nation on PS3. Its a solid twin stick shooter, but it's no RPG or Dark Souls, thats true. Ni No Kuni has such an odd battle mechanic, like your party members get out of control sometimes, and then you have to weaken and catch enemies to join your party. I thought the game was hard actually.Im curious to read your takes on it when you play it.

As for Dark Souls 2, I wasn't being a PC snob or anything, but the difference between console and PC visuals is night and day for me. I agree, it is a fine wine and it's better with small sips than chugging down a beer mug, which would be like Diablo 3 or something? DS2 will prob be replayed forever until the next DS, Dark Souls 3?

I'm going to wait a while for DS2 to go down in price.

I still hadn't played Bravely Default.  It's just sitting on my desk.  I really want to get South Park.  My funds just haven't matched up yet.  I keep spending my money on other things.

I don't have a favorite game this year so far. I've been mainly playing retro stuff. Of those, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door has been my favorite; however, I've put the most time into Borderlands 2 with a friend of mine. I just started Child of Light though. I'm enjoying that. Wolfenstein: New Order is my next purchase coming in a few weeks.

All those you mentioned are really cool, just didn't make my must-buy day-one list.
