And perhaps blue skies for the series ahead?

Blue Skies

From: Final Fantasy XIII

Remixed by: Ashleigh Coryell, bLiNd

There is a really good article over on USGamer about the Final Fantasy series, where it went wrong, and how the folks at Square Enix are trying to fix it. It's by Jeremy Parish, so you know it's gonna be good. Covers some history but talks mostly about the disappoint and debacle that were FFXIII and FFXIV, respectively, and the thinking behind the XIII sequels and A Realm Reborn. Very interesting stuff. I highly recommend reading it if you're at all interested in the series.

To tie in with that, here is the only FFXIII remix on OCR. It's a beat-heavy electronica piece with some tasteful singing. What surprises me is that the song is nearly 5 minutes long and yet does not overstay its welcome. If anything, it makes me think of some kind of zen garden in the middle of a futuristic, high tech dystopian city (if that makes any sense). I could imagine hearing this in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Anyway, check it out and be sure to give that article a read if it sounds interesting to you.

In completely unrelated news, a cool iOS game called Bardbarian went free on the App Store for the first time (maybe on Google Play too, not sure). As the titular bardbarian you must play your lute, forged from a battle axe, to summon characters to come defend your town from invading monsters. It's kind of like a castle defense game that incorporates shooter and RPG elements. It's a mash up that works (check out this review for more specifics). I don't know how long this free promo will go on, so be sure to grab it while you can!

One more thing! I blogged about Touch Force back in February, a 2D shoot-'em-up for iOS that makes your ship(s) appear where you touch the screen, with up to five ships at once possible. The free download gave you only the first level but the full game unlock is currently free! So check that out Smile

Nice song and I know what you mean about futuristic whatnot. I actually imagine a Sonic Chao garden in a futuristic setting, or a city level in one of those games or F-Zero

And yes, Barbarian is free on Google Play as well. http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.treefortress.Bardbarian

Glad you liked it! And thanks for the extra bit of info for our android brethren.

i find Jeremy Parish to be a mediocre writer, at best.  I'll give it a look-see though.

We have quite the difference of opinion then.

Bardbarian sounds fun. It's on my wishlist now.

You should "buy" it on your computer at least and then you can play it once you get a nice enough device. Might have to pay for it otherwise.

That write was was well writen. It's nice to know Jeremy Parish is getting on along well. I'm not the biggest fan of 13, but I loved the setting and atmosphere and I thought the music perfectly complimented it.

I haven't played FFXIII yet but I'd like to, despite whatever the naysayers, um, say.

no! no! NAOH! I won't listen to this! I won't. FFXIII was the biggest waste of $60 and I don't need a reminder of the time and money I wasted on this game. No i won't I wont do it.

...damn that's actually pretty good.

No! Focus! merrrrr. Stupid awesome OC remixers!
