You just hate to die, but you love to hear that awesome theme!

No one likes to die or lose in a game, right? Yet we all have specific Game Over themes that are embedded in our minds from dying so many times in certain games as kids. Some are just jingles, two or three seconds long, while others are more drawn-out. Either way, some Game Over themes are truly amazing, capturing a sense of loss and sadness. Today's Amazing VG Themes is a little different; instead of six or eight themes, I've got 25 for you! But these are very short, and I make tiny remarks for each one. By no means can I get all the best Game Over themes, but here are 25 that stick out to me as being truly amazing. They're to die for! What Game Over themes or jingles stick out to you? Let us all know below!

Game Over from Super Mario Bros. (NES)

This is it: the classic Game Over jingle that we're all familiar with. It's melancholy, but it's also Mario! It's been used in many Mario games because it's just so perfect.

Game Over from Super C (NES)

This jingle is just awesome! Short, but intense; Contra music is so cool, even on the NES. Dying stinks, but hearing this jingle gives you determination to try again.

Game Over from Mega Man 3 (NES)

This one is not a jingle, but a theme. It actually loops! This one is actually a happy-sounding piece, and I love it! Of course, it plays right after Mega Man has been blown to bits, making it a little strange, but it's awesome anyways.

Game Over from Gun Nac (NES)

This one is very nice. It oftens a feeling of hope while still sounding very sad. Great jingle from a great game.

Game Over from Batman (NES)

It's Batman! This is another Game Over theme which loops, and it is awesome! It's slow and unsettling with a touch of remorse. After all, Batman is dead. Could anything be worse than that?

Game Over from Super Mario World (SNES)

It's another great Mario Game Over jingle. It's still very simple, but it's also beautiful. It's like a lullaby dirge; rest in peace, I guess. Another classic.

Game Over from Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES)

DKC2 had the best Game Over music of the three games. It's melancholy, but it's got some personality to it! It feels very DK-like, which means it sounds like Dave Wise music, which means it's awesome.

Rest in Peace from Final Fantasy VI (SNES)

You guys all know how much I love FF6 music, and the Game Over music for it is just gorgeous! This sad but incredible theme plays while your character slouches to the ground in defeat against a black background. You really feel the impact of your defeat! Just beautiful!

Game Over from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (SNES)

This is another game that I love! The music is awesome, including the Game Over music. It has that Power Rangers vibe to it, and it really sounds like you've failed the world. Awesome!

A Bad Dream from Earthbound (SNES)

The death sequence for Earthbound is awesome. Ness is standing in a light as the text asks you if you want to try again, saying that perhaps it was all a bad dream. The music is sad and beautiful. Almost everything about Earthbound is unique, including this scene. It's not typical, and that is something special.

Game Over from Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)

This jingle is in your face! Very adventurous, meaning you better try again, you loser! The whole game is over the top, so why not the Game Over music too?

Game Over from Phantasy Star II (Genesis)

This is another Game Over theme that loops. It's slow, but very interesting. It gives you that feeling of failure, most likely because the game is so difficult.

Game Over from Sega Rally (Arcade)

This one is not on here because it's awesome, but because it's hilarious! Every time you die in this rad arcade racer, some dude sings "Game Over Yeeeeah!" as happily as he can. It's so different for a Game Over jingle, and that's why it's so great.

Game Over from Banjo Kazooie (N64)

A great theme that plays while you see the horrors of what has happened because you failed: Gruntilda has become beautiful and Banjo's sister has changed into a monster! Combined with the music, you really feel like a loser.

Game Over from F-Zero X (N64)

I love this game! The music is a real stand-out on the N64 for using (possibly) real electric guitars (if they're not real, they're really good synthisized ones). Atleast in this game you can die in style (that being a fiery explosion).

Game Over from Kirby 64 (N64)

Kirby music is so great, even the Game Over themes. My favorite is the one from Kirby 64. It's so peaceful and beautiful, simple and elegant. This after you die? Well why not!

Game Over from Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)

This game has a lot of pizzaz, and so does the Game Over music. It doesn't sound like GO music at all, it's just so crazy. And that's why it's on this list.

A Light Already Lost from Chrono Cross (PS1)

When you die in Chrono Cross, you're treated to a beautiful theme while a creepy image of Serge moves before you. Wow! This is definitely one of my favorite Game Over themes. It's peaceful yet sad, filled with grief and remorse.

Fading Consciousness from Dark Chronicle (PS2)

This one has a solo violin taking the lead. It's simple yet profound. Very sad and moving. Once again, you feel like you've really failed.

Demise from Romancing SaGa (PS2)

It's called Demise and it really sounds like demise. The piano really adds a sense of loss when it comes in. This is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. You are dead--Game Over.

Game Over from Tales of Destiny 2 (PSP)

This one has only a solo echo piano, and it's truly sad. A piano can evoke sadness far more than any other instrument (perhaps the violin can match its sadness). This one may make you cry.

Rest in Peace from Legacy of Ys: Book I and II (DS)

This one has some spunk. It's a little upbeat, but still melancholy to a certain degree. It's not really that sad, but it works anyway.

Game Over from Castlevania Judgment (Wii)

It may be a terrible fighting game, but Castlevania Judgment has some great music, including the Game Over jingle, which is a remixed version of the original Castlevania Game Over jingle. It's simple yet very awesome and nostalgic.

Game Over from New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)

I love this one. It's a smooth jazz rendition of the main theme set to a depressing Game Over jingle. Simple, awesome, pure Mario. You gotta love it.

Game Over from Sonic Colors (Wii)

I cannot believe this theme is in a Sonic game; it's so beautiful! It's soothing and enjoyable to hear. It doesn't have the typical Sonic attitude, and I'm thankful for that.

I love game over themes, sadly cause they're very nostalgic for me. I uh ... heard them a lot.

Ah yes, Brentafloss. Love that video.

Don't worrry, Joe, I saw Game Over screens a lot too. Actually, I still see them frequently (especially if I'm playing retro games, they're tough!).

Also, wow, I haven't seen a Dark Cloud game in forever, though I definitely rented one on PS2.

I can just hear an announcer saying "epic fail" as this plays.

I hate long Game Over tunes because it's like they're rubbing it in.  "Nanny nanny boo boo, you died."

Hm, that's one way to look at it. On the other hand, it allows more time for you to reflect on your failure and death. . . so I guess you're absolutely right!

I find it irksome to have happy game over music. I feel the game is taunting me. I know they just don't want you to feel too bad, but I do, and I resent a happy game over.

I do like that Phatasy Star II one. The bass line is cool and melody seems sympathetic. The Chrono Cross one is great. I could listen to that classical guitar all day. I prefer a sad game over. It's more appropriate.

Sadness and gloom is appropriate, but where would we be without happiness??? I'm totally kidding, you're right, of course.

Sometimes I'll get that happy game over screen and curse at it. . . and then laugh. It's a game after all. it's all fun. Don't want to get too down over losing.

I've heard the Super Mario Bros. Game Over music more times than I care to remember, so I can attest to it's perfection.
