Sounds great on the surface. Vita, game and 8 GB card for $199.99. But I'm wondering how many people will buy it without knowing that the Vita in the box is the new model which is sans OLED screen? Yes the new model is sporting an inferior LCD screen instead.

I guess if you've never had a Vita before it could go unnoticed but I for one would like the OLED screen when I buy one so I'll be seeking out old stock.

The Playstation blogcast mentioned how good the new Vita feels. It apparently has better battery life too. However, I got the old one for just the reason you mention. That screen. They didn't mention anything about that. Figures.

That's a nice boxed set, but I'm probably picking up just the game. My Vita is fine, and the only way I'd think about getting the new Vita is if it came in a new color. I like the thinner body, which reminds me of when the PSP went to the 2000 series (and later 3000).

Yes but unlike the PSP versions this one is basically a downgrade so that they can save money on production. Yes it is slimmer and has a whopping 1 GB of internal memory! That's the second insulting thing about the new system. 1 GB of internal flash probably cost them next to nothing to put in. I'm guessing about a buck a unit and I'm probably highballing it. With the cost of flash these days 16 GB would have been a no brainer. They put that much in the PSP Go but not in the Vita. What up with that?

Actually that's a rhetorical question because the answer is..... Greed! They still want you to buy their proprietary memory card even though they can't sell the only system it works in.  Their "upgrade" should have included a micro SD slot.

I can buy a high speed 32 GB SD card for 20 bucks (62.5 cents a GB) or their card for 80. WTF?

Sorry, that was a rant wasn't it?

It's all good man, and I do agree that it would have been easy to slide in a SD card slot. This has always been my problem with Sony, they like to gouge the consumer on proprietary memory cards. I can't remember where I mentioned it but when the 1GB card was released for the PSP I spent $100 on it. A couple of years later I bought a 4GB for $40.

Oh wait until they announce a 3000 model with 2GB of internal memory, you'll have added reason to rant Tongue Out

LOL. I had the same experience with PSP cards. It's much better now that I can use micro SD cards in my PSP. You will notice that the way they have made the new cards, they are two small for someone to make a shell for Micro SD. Bastards!

Even with all of the issues, I still think that the Vita was one of the best purchases I made.  I would still recommend it, eventhough the screen may be crappier.

... and I still intend to buy a Vita Philip. Just not that one. :)

I probably wouldn't notice it, but by the time I've saved enough for a Vita I won't have much of a choice.

If the system loads things faster/better than I'd be willing to forgo the OLED screen. Will still hold out given I'm still tryingto justify a 3DS purchase.
