Tapping looks fun. I think DiMola's wife did a review recently on this one.
Spending Time With The 3DS XL

Greetings good people of Pixlbit! Monday is here and that usually means
I’m currently running on little sleep but hey it’s all good, the sun is shining, it isn’t hot…yet, and I am writing my new entry. This past weekend I thought I would dedicate to the handheld. There has been one I’ve been playing a bunch of, but there was another that wasn’t getting as much attention so this became my platform of choice when sitting on the couch or listening to the next book in the Game of Thrones (Spoiler: there is no robot sent from the future to protect Cersei and her son…John Connor. C’mon Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles wasn’t that bad of a show). I played a couple of things on The Big Gameboy also known as the 3DS XL.
My start to the gaming on the Big Gameboy started when I was adding the latest batch of DS games to my book of games. The ones I bought from Toys R Us a while back sat on the floor until I decided to open them, and place them in the book. One of them had some Club Nintendo points so I added them in and it turned out I was 50 points away from being a Platinum member (you Nintendo folks, what happens when I hit Platinum? Anything cool? Is it like Playstation’s old program where the more games you bought and played you could earn special avatars? That’s how I got my Kratos Pro avatar). I found that I also had a bunch of surveys that had some point values so I filled those out and then I became a Platinum Member
I also found that the gold coin games were going to expire so I downloaded the one I wanted
C’mon art degree, don’t fail me!
After downloading this gem and a handful of others because there was a sale, I decided to give some of the games I own as well as the new ones some play time. Maybe I knock off one off Mount Backlog, maybe I find something fun, and maybe I continue to avoid The Jonas Brothers game. Here are some games I spent time with
Stuff I Already Own
Super Hang On
I bought this because of the nostalgia factor, and because the dang game was 50 cents to play in the arcade, and I used to think that was insane. I spent a bit of time using the gyro controls, which I should be used to especially with all the tablet gaming I do. I keep crashing around the same spot, which is the reason for my lack of in game trophies. I’m playing through the easy courses first before I hit the intermediate and hard stuff. I’m thinking about tinkering with the time limit so that crash spot I keep hitting doesn’t end my progress.
Super Mario Bros.
When I bought this game, I had a goal of a world a day, but after playing one or two levels and then stopping, it was pushed aside for one of the match three games I was playing. Anyways I am back and I finished off World 2-4, and I am on World 3-1. There is no warping, and if my character dies, he dies. No loading up the game saves.
Escape From Zombie City
Last week I talked about how this is the happy version of Dead Nation, and I played a bit before getting tired and shutting it off. Well it turns out after every level it saves and you can continue from that point which is good news for me…and should be a lesson for you folks to actually pay attention to the info on the game. Easily my favorite weapon is when my character throws dynamite into a crowd of Zombies. It makes a good size hole in the sea of Zombies. I got a bit too arrogant cutting through the waves that when it came time to face a boss, I was worked because I didn’t realize that my health was low (I was trying to hit the Zombie killing target), and for some reason I forgot how to switch weapons. I’ll try this level again later on today.
And I played some new games I bought on sale
Tappingo - $1.99
This game is kind of like Picross but you create the image by lines when you swipe at a numbered square. The number in the square tells you how many blocks should be covered, and if you did it correctly you get an ok. To make things interesting there is no cut off on how long the line gets, you have to hit another square to block it, so there’s some planning, but from what I have seen the game isn’t too difficult.
10-N-1 Arcade Collection - $1.99
Remember those bootleg NES carts that had something 50+ games on it, and many of the games are clones? That’s what this is. Games like Space Invaders, Breakout, and Asteroids get the clone treatment, with some snazzy colorful retro graphics and music. Controls are fine, and these are good quick hit games.
Rage of the Gladiator - $3.99
This game was the most expensive of my eShop games, but it is easily my favorite. In this game you are playing as the gladiator through his eyes. Think FPS minus the shooting. The objective is to fight your way through your enemies while upgrading your weapons. This usually means you might have to fight one of the lower guys two or three times to earn enough coin to buy the items you need to defeat the next opponent. The fighting is basic, with your left and right shoulder buttons control the swings, and moving the d-pad moves the characters out of the way. The enemies have a fight pattern and once you figure it out, it becomes a game of counters. Out of the group of games I played on the Big Gameboy this past weekend, this game I spent the most time with. It’s good to get a little one on one combat onto a Nintendo handheld.
Before we end today’s blog, I also added four Simpsons figures to the Lego collection, and this is a pic I texted to my friends
This is what happens when you don’t feel the blind bags. D’oh! To bring it all back, one of my favorite Homer Simpson quotes
"I'd like to thank the woman who's been inspiring me for the past 25 years...the cute one from The Bangles"
That’s all for now, more later!
