I'm betting that most of the kids singing along to it don't know that either. Anyway the next time you see it you can smirk knowingly.
That was my first thought too when I saw that commerical.
I did not know that ... or that it was a Pixies song for that matter. Not a new thing for an ad to have an inappropriate song though.

While I don't think it actually ever made it to commerical, I think one of the most inappropriate song choices was when Levi's wanted the Dead Kennedy's song Holiday in Combodia for a commercial. The song is about Pol Pot killing his own people. The band members actually sued Jello Biafra (the lead singer) because he wouldn't allow them to use it in the commercial.
It's tough kid but it's life. :)
That would be totally inappropriate but definitely one of my favourite DK songs. Sounds like Jello had more brains that the rest of his band put together.

Of Course not, pop music has killed the general publics sense of context. So many songs in the charts are really bad but they carry disturbing subtext sometimes. I mean half the songs in the 80s where gay but yo got homophobes singing them :P

Considering how much commercials miss the point of songs and put them just because they are catchy or made some changes to sell the product, i'm not that surprised.
Oh commercials...I think most just try to use a catchy hook just to get their product into people's heads. After a couple of times I looked up who actually sang that song in the Apple commercial.
Hahahahahaha that's a good one.
I can just imagine the laughter going on at the meeting where they decided on using that song in the commercial as a joke, as well as those same people staying quiet to see how far they could keep it going after getting the green-light to air it.
note to self. never watch another apple commerical. ever
I need to let my one apple co worker know about this. I wonder if he even knows it.
