Nice! Yeah, this will probably be game of the year for me unless something amazing comes out. Not as good as the first, but still amazing.
and I finished Dark Souls 2!

Having replayed through the first Souls games prior to this really prepared me for my off-line solo run through this game and I just think the experience was pretty amazing! I just cant stress enough when I say "They just don't make enough games like this". And yes, if the next game in the series is the rumored sequal to Demons Souls and a PS4 exclusive, then I will have to buy a PS4 just for that, and the next gen hardware decision has been decided for me.
Demon Souls on PS3 and its visuals really blew me away when it first came out. I liked the look of the dark castles and the feel of the weapons and armor, and actually it still looks really good--most areas any way. Dark Souls 1 for some reason didn't pull me in the same way Demons Souls did, and I cant figure out why just yet. After playing Demons and Souls 1 recently back-to-back, I think the darkness and the lore of Demons just pull me in more--because I just like horror and dark things I suppose.I did enjoy the long journey around Lordran and loop-de-loop level design with secret shortcuts and such.
Dark Souls 2 has more of a linear 'amusement park' style level design with set pieces. The world feels very fragmented, and some areas don't even really feel like they connect to each other at all, sort of like how an amusement park has different themes areas to explore. Take the lush green forest and stream of the beginning area of Souls 2 contrast to the red and black design of Iron Keep or the dark Drangleic castle compared to the bright Aerie. On PC, the game is just gorgeous, which may or may not be an issue depending on who you ask. The Souls works best when it is purely dark and gloomy. Dark Souls 2 has it's sunny colorful areas, which seem out of place some how. I suppose a change in color swatch is good for a sequel. We don't want the exact same thing all of the time, but boy is this game gorgeous on PC.
I think this may be an early GOTY contender because I haven't really played anything else this year that pulled me in more, or made it easy to remove the controller from my hands. And now it's on to lore discussions, videos and theorizing. The cycle continues. LOL!
What did you all think of this masterpiece? Or why havent y'all tried it yet. I was a bit scared of it at first, but I made the plunge into the Abyss and I made it through.
It's gonna be hard to top this game now. What a dilemma!
