Lets discuss that whole Microsoft dis-Kinect hoopla thing...

I don't think I've seen this discussion take place here the way I've seen it come up every where else, so I thought I'd bring it up.

Microsoft announced a price drop for the Xbox One console which will NOT be bundled with the Kinect camera, and pissed off a lot of Xbox fans. Apparently this move will allow MS to close the gap in hardware sales and take the lead over Sony this holiday or whatever. But more importanlty it's taken as a sign that the "vision" for the media center focused system is now dead due to its reliance on the Kinect camera- which is an add-on now. MS also announced PS+ type service with free games, and some Apps can be used now without the need to subscribe for Xbox service or something.

Sony on the other hand is getting lots of Indie games, and a new Streaming service to allow streaming play for PS3 games, or something. I don't think MS has backwards compatibility yet.

I feel like a Helms Deep scenario taking place at E3 this year.

For the record, I don't own a PS4 or XBoxOne and I don't have a preference yet, unless you've been reading my blogs and know how I feel about a possible Souls sequel exclusive to PS4, but I digress.

The price drop doesnt convince me to buy an XBox still and I don't know what MS needs to show to get me to buy one? PS4 still lacks games and I'm still enjoying my PS3 and PC, 3DS etc..

So community, what are your thoughts about this Microsoft news and is a price drop enough to get y'all to pay up for a new console?

Eating with some Insomniac Studios guys at lunch today, I'm even more torn about XBO vs. PS4 for me, because Sunset Overdrive and some other exclusives look really damn good on XBO's end and now it being the same price makes it a consideration for me again, but .... gaahhh! This wasn't a decision until now, dammit. I want to go back to there being a clear winner for me. I can only afford one.

Interesting. So MS price cut is a deal breaker for you. That's great! Now you can buy the system at a cheaper entry point and can join the New gen or whatever. I think I still have to wait until after E3, or holiday to make a decision.

I take it as a sign that MS is finally listening to what people want for a change. Me, I never wanted a Kinect in the first place. And the decision to not force people to get a Gold membership so they can already watch things like Netflix that have already been paid for was way overdue.

I'm still undecided about when I'll get a PS4 or Xbox One, or even if I will. I was leaning PS4 a little bit, but like Joe, this may be a game changer. It will all come down to the actual games a year or two down the line.

Althought the prices match, I still feel that there is a lack of great software from either system that requires $400 hardware. Infamous or Titanfall are not enough to get me to each into my pockets deep enough.

Whenever the PS4 and Xbox One have games that appeal to me, then I'll consider getting one.

This was my original position which still stands, with or without price cuts.

No change for me. I still don't want to give Microsoft money so I won't be buying anything from them unless I absolutely have to. (read: Job/PC related)

I play on PC and Steam, so if a game is available on all systems, I tend to prefer the PC version actually.

I think this makes sense for MS as what they've been doing clearly isn't working. They tried out something and the public told them in sales figures it's not what they want. I'm hopeful that sales on the Xbox One increase from this so we get a tighter competition. I'd certainly be pissed however if I had been an early adopter of the XBox One.

For me personally, I'll still go PS4 when I'm ready for next gen as I feel their overall vision is more in accordance to what I want (i.e. variety in my games to include more niche titles). This along with already owning the Vita and my existing subsciption to PS Plus basicly guarantees Sony my money when I've enough games to interest me on PS4.

The funny thing is that, according to sources, XBox One is selling better than 360 did when it launched, but Sony outselling month to month is causing this extreme reaction from MS. They are doing fine, but they just cant stand to be #2 this gen. IMO.

Very good point actually, I had forgotten that was the case. I guess that the long life cycle of the last systems combined with the newfound mass popularity of video games the likes of which we've never seen has led to a huge uptake from the get go.

It'll be interesting to see what impact this cheaper Xbox One has on sales over the summer months. I think MS is going to have to pull out something special to show why they offer a better product than Sony (and not just try and match the PS4)

It's good because now the system in within my budget. I have a $399 limit for consoles. However, they still haven't shown a game that I must have on the system. I've been getting the 360 versions of new games and even Destiny is coming out on 360, so I'll probably get it there. There needs to be an amazing game that's only on Xbox One to get me to buy it. I'm looking to E3 to show me that game.

If games are available for PS3, then I'll just get that version for now. $400 still seems like a lot to me. Maybe I'll jump in when we get slim versions at $300 or something plus more games in libraries.

For me, I've been cautious with my spending lately. The idea of Demon's Souls 2 on PS4 could be a system seller for me but nothing I've seen for Xbox One coming out this year makes me think I should get one.

Same with me. I think console preference really has to do with what network your friends are on, but I'm not a social gamer so it doesn't appeal to me either way. Honestly, I think WiiU has more games Im interested in at the moment than PS4/XBone.

The social thing is something. I really only have one friend who I game with regularly and if he got one of the new systems, I'd have to go get one too. Luckily, I don't have to worry about that too much because I'm usually the first one to go next gen anyway.

I might buy an Xbox One but probably not for another year or so. Other than Peggle 2 and Forza 5 there isn't anything on the console right now I'd want to play and I'm not sure Sunset Overdrive, Project: Spark and Quantum Break are games that would make me run out to buy the console.

I'm plenty happy with my launch PS4 and I probably will buy the Wii U before I buy the Xbox One. Kudos to Microsoft for finally realizing nobody wanted the intrusive camera. I still question the horsepower under its hood. I expect that only XO exclusives will be played on it if I ever buy one and it will be some time for a good number of them to be on the market.

Doesnt Quantum Break require a Kinect camera? LOL!

I don't understand why some people are upset over MS.  Any person paying attention knew MS was going to get rid of the Kinect and they had to do something to counter Sony's "free" games service.

I'll probably get a PS4 before I get an XB1.  It doesn't really matter anyway, because I doubt I'll buy any console anytime soon.  I refuse to spend more than $300 (that's including tax) on a console.  The next system I buy will probably be a Vita.  Maybe.

MS fans are mad because they invested in the camera and the vision for the "One" media center, which MS has seemingly now abandoned. It now seems less powerfult of the two consoles in comparison, especially when it comes to deciding about which 3rd party game to choose between, PS4 has an edge on graphics and performance.

Microsoft has already left a sour taste in my mouth, so it's unlikely to see an Xbone with me. on the PS4, i'm not really interested, so i'll pass on that, because my main focus is the Wii U and a Vita.

Not bad choices. Vita is really cool!

Outside of Sunset Overdrive and the Capybara indies there is very little on the software front to sell me an Xbox One.

I like the X-Box but I'm going to do what I did with the previous two systems, and that is wait a couple of years. Right now both the PS4 and X-Box One don't have the libraries that make either system a "must have" for me. The PS4 is my console of choice but there are/will be games on the X-Box that at some point I will want to play.

Sorry, had to do it. Any time I read that word, this is what I first think of. As far as this making me want an Xbox goes, no, still won't be interested until a few games that I'm interested in come out.
