Transistor is Better Than Bastion

When I first played Bastion, I didn't like it. I loved the narration and music, but the combat was so poor, and the story took a little too long to get going, and I found myself unwilling to go on. I only kept playing because people told me the ending was amazing.

Anyway. Transistor. I loaded up the game. Then I immediately quit to download the soundtrack, because it is fucking amazing.

Anyway, when I got back to the game, I discovered that not only were the narration, music, and art beautiful and absolutely awesome, but there were good game mechanics to back it up. I also like the characters and world of Transistor more than Bastion. This is purely objective, but I like this dark cyberpunk mixed with a jazz presentation more than Bastion's fantasy post apocalypse.

Overall, I feel Supergiant have matured. They're mechanically better, and more adept at story. So far, this is second on my game of the year list, and it would take resident evil 4 levels of awesome to knock it from the list. Although, Shinji Mikami is making another horror game...

I enjoyed Bastion quite a bit...  so this is good news for me.

I couldn't even make myself finish Bastion even though I had heard so many good things. Glad Transistor seems to be considered better universally.

I'll have to try Transistor.  I was bored with Bastion and didn't get too far in that game.

Well, I fell in love with Bastion and I love the gameplay, but I digress. Once I finish Bastion I will give this one a try then.

It's not related at all, so you don't have to finish it. I mean, you can if you want, but it's not required.

I don't know which I had more of a problem with when it came to Bastion: the simplistic combat or the cramped level design. Probably the latter, seeing as how I can still enjoy old Legend of Zelda and Diablo.  Transistor looks way better.

Yeah, the semi turnbased system they have here is immensely satisfying, and the levels are a tonne more open. Any problem I have with this game dissolves when I remember you can pause time to hum wuth the music.

Transistor looks amazing, but why is the character so small? Is it an action RPG? I'm on the fence with this one.

You can play it two different ways. ou can play it as an action RPG, or you can play it as a semi turnbased/but not turnbased strategy game. Look up some gameplay footage because it's hard to explain.

The character isn't that small, and you gwt used to her size.

I'm wishlisting it.

OK after I just watched that launch trailer for the game, I am suddenly interested in it. How the hell did I missed it? That looks awesome!

I have no idea how you missed it, but the game is beautiful.  Hope you get a chance to play :)

I don't know much about any of this, but Evil Within does look pretty cool.

Ok. Listen to this:

The soundtrack alone makes me want to keep playing, let alone the beautiful art style and semi turn based/action rpg style combat. It truly is remarkable.

I haven't played much of Bastion, but I'll look into Transistor.
