Alright, I've been gushing about Dark Souls 2 enough. I have to say that this game was overly hyped since it was announced, which may have contributied to my, shall we say feeling let down a bit after finishing? But just a bit. I can't think of other games that offer the same amount of gum to chew on in terms of lore, atmosphere and gameplay besides the first 2 games. I think the lack of offering differnt endings also hurts the replay value for single player. The only other game I can think of is Dragons Dogma, which I already a finished a while ago.

So what other games are out there that are similar to Dark Souls or at least grab you the way this game grabbed me? I currently plugged in my Gamecube and started playing 'Killer 7' again, and I have to say that upon replay, the game is giving me that dark atmosphere and strange lore and brutal gameplay that Dark Souls gave me. Along with Resident Evil Remake, which I will play after.

Actually, after playing through Silent Hill series a few months ago, I feel like playing RE series again now that I found RE Remake and Zero.

Currently playing--

Killer 7 (Gamecube)
Child of Light
Hearthstone (iOS)
The Secret World (MMO/PC)

I have Killer 7 and I just couldn't get into that game.  I wanted to like it too.  I hadn't touched it in years.

The game was and still is divisive. The thing that draws me in is the strange atmosphere and I like the gun play. Such an odd game, really. A mess of a game even.

Ok: Lords of the Fallen is coming out this year and it's supposed to be a direct knock off of Dark Souls. I don't know about the quality, but I know they are at least taking the combat system, which is a good sign.

In terms of exploration style and ambigious lore, try La-Maluna. Outward appearances are cartoonish, but the game is a really deep 2D metroidvania experience.

In terms of atmosphere, I'd Shadow of the Collossus. In terms of melancholy and isolation, they're very similar.

I have my gaze set on Lords of the Fallen and I just finished a playthrough of Colossus. I might need to try La Mulana, or replay Symphony of the night or something. Thanks for the suggestions.

I really want to play Killer 7 on Gamecube some time. Maybe one of these L.A. stores will have it.

I think it's also available on PS2, so maybe you'll get some luck there.

Me too. I've put this game off for too long.

I'll be reviewing Child of Light soon.

Kirby Triple Deluxe is what I'm currently playing right now.  It really grabbed me...but...uh, it's not anything like Dark Souls.  It's better. :)

I just love the insanity that is Killer 7. I should play it again sometime soon to see if I still love it as much.

I tried getting into Witcher 2 (Equally as hyped as Dark Souls 2) and reached a point I was frustrated and tired. It's a shame on account it truly is a good game but there are certain things about it that flat out irk me! I feel you, man! I'm kind of wondering what game I should play next as well.

Witcher 2 isn't a bad suggestion, but I had trouble getting into this game for some reason. I didn't get used to the combat, or I never reached the point where the game pulled me in. I only ever got to the end of the first chapter and then I was like meh. I should try to revisit and try again.

Funny,I felt the same. After Flotsam I hit the dwarven city and felt as if the place was too labyrinthine. Now I'm running around trying to find all the separate ingredients to cure Dosaika (A hero female knight) of her poisoned condition and the mobs of monsters can easily take me out despite my nice gear. I also wish I could simply chug potions at my leisure as opposed to having to meditate first! Maybe I'm just playing wrong. Yell

Did you see this today? I heard about it on Twitter but this is the IGN articleHidetaka Miyazaki, director of the Dark Souls games is now president of From Software. There's suggestion that he's working on the Demon's Souls sequel and maybe adding guns to the mix. Guns! Wah?!

I don't know if this is good news. Miyazaki needs to be in development team. I think he was not involved with Dark Souls 2, and if it's true then it would explain my problems with it, but he needs to make games, and not sit at a desk.

I'm making my way through Dark Souls 2 still, though to be fair I've been putting in some good time with it.  I just finished up the Royal Rat boss...not sure where to head from there.  Lost Bastille?

asrealasitgets

How did you get down the well to Grave for Rat Boss? I thought you needed a ladder to do that? If you beat Persuer in Forest of Giants, then right after the boss you find a way to get to Bastille. If you didn't fight Persuer, you can go and fight the Tower of Hades Boss and access No Mans Warf, which will also lead you to Bastille. Cool

i bought a silvercat ring, took off all my armor, and made my way down the well.

Thats crazy. I used the same ring, removed armor and would instantly die when I hit the first platform. I had to wait until further into the game for the ladder builder to show up to properly get down into the Black Gulch. Very cool that you accessed area early. That's the wierd thing about this game.

i literally had to un equip everything from my knight, even all the restorative items.  I even unequipped my estus flask.  I never ever ever do that lol

05/23/2014 at 07:28 PM

what's really tripping me out is how well I've done with the stock armor set the knight gets from the very beginning, after I sunk +3 into it.  Same with the Heide Knight Sword...+3 and electrical damage make me loathe to part with it

asrealasitgets

and I used no armor or gear at all-- with a few exceptions--I like to roll light. The fire longsword that I found in Forest of Giants got me through a lot of the game, unitl I switched to Bastard Sword and upgraded it, cuz I prefer large two-handed weapons. You can definitly roll whatever gear or weapon you want in this game.

indeed.  I'm just levelling currently.  I had two bad attempts at the Ruin Sentinels, one of them I even had the Pilgrim NPC with me.

I see a lot of folks playing Hearthstone. It's not my thing but good to see a lot of people enjoying a tablet game.

Its also on PC. It actually kills my battery on iPad which is why I prefer to play on PC. It's rather good, but it does require deck building or whatever.

Always wanted to play Killer 7, but had rotten luck trying to find it. Maybe that'll change the next time I decide to look for it.
