The week is here; I’m ready to enjoy the weekend…and small doses of the triple digit heat. How are you Pixlbit? Are you ready for the weekend? For some reason short weeks always seem the longest. Of course my short week started off with me waking up freaking out that I forgot to take the trashcans to the curb, only to remember that the trash guys were going to be skipping the day after Memorial Day and show up on Wednesday. Since it is Friday its another edition of Quick Hits with Chris. For today I’m adding a new show I want to talk about, stuff that has been going on, and of course pickups! Sound good? Well let’s get started!

Chris’ Must Watches

Another season of Master Chef has begun! I actually started watching it last season, and I liked it, so this year I made sure to catch the season premier. I made a comment to my friend that I would gladly take the first 20 people kicked off this show, put a team together and I think they could beat the men’s team on Hell’s Kitchen.

I found that MC followed the generic groups of chefs: The chemist guy who tries to make foam taste like peas. The housewife who makes good wholesome food but doesn’t have the proper training of a chef. The arrogant guy/gal who think they’re better than everyone else. The crier who has a sob story, and says they will try really REALLY hard. The final one is the chef who keeps his or her heads down, cooks well, and gels with everyone. I tend to watch the arrogant guy/gal because they’re loud, and usually fall on their face. This season it’s between two folks, which should be interesting.

Hell’s Kitchen

Another episode of WTF are they thinking? I’m hoping Rochelle makes it to the finals. I think she might face the skinny blond girl. I’m hoping all the guys get cut at this point because they’re all terrible.

Aztec Baseball

Aztec Baseball once again won the MWC Tournament is in the regionals. SDSU is one of two teams to send their football team to a bowl, men’s basketball team to the Dance, and Baseball team to the Regionals. This is the second straight year for the Aztecs, which is a lot of fun. I think the only Aztec team that didn’t make the postseason this year was Women’s Basketball.

I’m wearing my retro SDSU cap today because the Aztecs are playing Mississippi State in the Louisiana Regional. The Baseball team is using the #WinForGwynn hastag because Tony Gwynn is on leave because of his cancer. The team placed his bobblehead in the dugout and is rallying for him. My bobblehead is in a moving box somewhere.

Fun Stuff

I spotted this at K-Mart. If it cost as much as a regular Hot Wheel or at most $2 bucks I would have been all over it, but $5 is nuts. Love Magnum P.I.!

A Brazilian Graphic Artist created comic book images for the World Cup. Pretty cool stuff, and of course this is my favorite

USA vs Azerbaijan

USA! USA!

On Jeopardy! Julia is DESTROYING everyone. It’s fun to watch because once Double Jeopardy rolls around, she has a substantial lead, and she goes on to basically answer every question. She’s going to be fun to watch during Tournament of Champions.

ESPN showed the Spelling Bee. I dig how the kid in red gives no damns about winning. The quality is garbage because for some reason iOS was being an ass.

I finished this book

Time for the black bars! Same rule, highlight it to read what I think, but there are spoilers

Oh so this book isn’t my favorite of the series, but I am enjoying what I am reading about Cersei. She’s getting paranoid, and I’m hoping that the King Slayer at some point decides to take her down too. I’m not a fan of the Samwell storyline, but there was some promise here with him, Gilly, and Maester Aemon being sent away form Castle Black. I’ve lost interest in Arya, and Sansa. The one thing I do like from this book is the constant teasing of should be on the throne, with big plot revel at the end which got me excited about the fifth book.

Before I end my quick thoughts on this book…WTH is up with Catelyn Stark. I’m cool with dragons, White Walkers, Giants, that dude who won’t die, but Zombie Catelyn? C’mon now.

While thrift store hopping a couple of days ago I spotted this for $28 with no game

The Renegade Edition of DJ Hero. I thought about it, but passed. I bought the CD already from the mom & pop music store, I’m not a big fan of the game, and I don’t really need another controller with case.

Pickups!

Games:

Humble Bundle had a Steam/Android sale, and naturally I jumped because it’s Android, and I wanted Metal Slug 3. I can’t wait to see what else they add, and I need to add the soundtracks to my iTunes library.

GameStop finds

I visited my local shop where the manager is really cool guy, and let me know if anything interesting was traded in. I got to wander the store without folks asking if I need help which is always a plus. I ended up picking up Konami Collection because of Symphony of the Night. I think I already have it on Plus, but a physical, non super expensive copy is always good.

Later on at night I picked up Angry Birds on the Vita because it was $10 and it has exclusive levels. I now bought it for Vita, iOS, and Android.

Speaking of Android, last night during a commercial break for Hell’s Kitchen I spotted this game

Batman running? Hell.F’n.Yeah!

I’m considering actually spending real money on this game.

Toys R Us dropped their Green Tags to 70% off so I jumped on a couple of games

$3 it was worth a try. Most likely it’s not very good

Add some 3DS goodness with Madden and Ace Combat for $18.

Music:

Thrift Stores have been kind to me.

My first stop this was .50 cents. This was the same store that had the DJ Hero. A month before that they also had a complete Band Hero with drums, guitar, and box for $20.

The second thrift across the street finds for $2 each

Apparently I don’t have this Beastie Boys album. I bought the LeAnn Rimes stuff because for some reason I now want to complete her discography. From this thrift store I also find some random CDs

The Rosemary Clooney album is a Japan release

This is the spine. It’s a cool piece to have.

The Russian album is actually a collection of mp3s.

I haven’t added it to iTunes yet.

The final thrift store stop I found a couple of cool stuff

These were a $1 each. I added another Christmas album, the Roxette album was a McDonald’s giveaway to promote Crash!Boom!Bang! and I found a Jake Shimabukuro CD!

Best part about this CD is when I went to check if it was in good shape

It was autographed. Thanks Bob for donating this album!

Sticking with my Hawaiian theme, I found another Don Ho album

A Christmas album which is interesting. I also found a Junior High Band recording from 1963

I found some stuff at a couple of Targets

A couple of Clearance albums. I enjoyed listening to The Hobbit. If this movie had no dialogue but just played more of this music, I would probably enjoy the film.

From another Target I spotted these under a bunch of Pop Cap games in the Clearance section

I finally get to try this Beach Boys album, and I’m curious about Steve Martin/Edie Brickell album.

I also bought the new Mariah CD…yeah there are heads shaking at me I can sense the force. I also bought another iTunes card for this album

Shaun White was on Adam Carolla Podcast and he was talking about his band and they played a song, and I really dug it so I bought the Deluxe version, and downloaded their three songs from their website if you like them on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter and Instagram

TV Shows

Another Target find

I really enjoyed the first season, didn’t care for the second season, and started watching again this season. This is the previous season with Rza that I caught one or two episodes of.

Well Pixlbit, it’s time for this edition of Quick Hits to come to an end. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Once again, holy jeez that music haul. I miss Amoeba Records already. I know you went to a thrift store, but anyway.

That's cool about the Aztecs. By the way, SFASU Women's Basketball totally went to the playoffs. So that's something. lol

I can't watch Hell's Kitchen or shows like that. Makes me feel like I'm at work three or four years ago.

LOL at that Yanks cover.

My friend T.C. complained about the spelling bee being on ESPN yesterday. I don't mind, since the first legit award I ever got was for a 2nd grade spelling bee. I just wish the NBA playoff games would be on ABC already so I could watch them.

We'll see if I can rent Game of Thrones this summer. Repairs on my car are going to cost out the ass, so unfortunately my ability to jump on deals and rentals and all that stuff will be severely limited for a while.

Have a good one!

Amoeba is such an awesome store! The size alone is crazy. Thrift Stores are a decent substitute for the music stores but some days I wish places like Tower Music were still around, just for the environment.

Nice both SFA's men's and women's teams went to the postseason.

I like the Spelling Bee. The crazy words, the kids with bad facial hair who can spell these words, and some of the jokes the judges and annoucer like to slide in, good stuff.

Ooh you have to rent Game of Thrones. This season has been really good. I'm currently on the 5th book and I can't wait to see how they interpret that storyline in the coming seasons.

I liked the old Iron Chef Japanese cooking show  My favorite was Chef Yellow.  I called him "Chef Sweaty."

Oh old Iron Chef was awesome. My favorite was the older guy in the early seasons who didn't care if he won or lost. He was a gritty older guy who made quality food and didn't care what anyone thought.

damn dude.  Magnum PI licensed gear in Kmart.  No wonder that business is going to hell.  Next they're going to have Alf-licensed cookware.  (which I'd buy)

Haha I think it was a retro series. There was also some Miami Vice vehicles too, which I would have bought, but $5 is crazy.

Man I miss Alf. I think old episodes are either on Crackle or Hulu+. Wasn't there a shortlived cartoon?

Skulls of the Shogun! Love that game. Also Angry Birds Star Wars for $10. I like that price. I passed on it last year at $40 on XBLA.

I didn't know there were ukulele ninjas, but that guy is definitely one.

I never understood why PS3 and 360 had Angry Birds at $40. That was insane. $10 is reasonable especially with the exclusive levels.

I was so ready to get it when it came to XBLA too, but I didn't expect anything over $20.

I liked Master Chef well enough, and I'd love to see that plan of yours in action. At the very least it'd make for some fascinating TV.

I think they could give the men's team a good run. Everyone on that team think they are already great chefs, yet every episode has them messing up.
