I'm taking a break from Final Fantasy X because I'm in the Bevelle Cloister of Trials and it's just as annoying as I remember. It consists of moving around automatically on a platform and hitting a button to turn right or left at intersections. There absolutely no indication what you are supposed to do and you can spend ages just going back and forth getting nothing much done.
Even if you have a walkthrough it's a pain because you can't take your eyes off the screen to read the walkthrough because you'll end up missing your turn and looping back to the beginning again.
I played The Puppeteer up to Act 1 Curtain 3 yesterday but there's a boss battle that gets quite Quick Time Eventee which you have to start over if you miss a button press and although I am pretty sure I was near the end pressing square instead of L2 earned me a chance to do it all over again more than once. So rather than throw the controller I took a break to play Rainbow Moon, a game that Rodney Lee talked me into buying.
I intended to play Rainbow Moon for an hour but wound up playing for several. The game is a lot of fun and doesn't seem very difficult at the moment. I now have a party of two, an archer and a knight. I started with the knight and the archer joined me at the start of my latest quest.
I'm playing on normal and not finding it too challenging but I'm too busy grinding and enhancing my team to care. The game has a combination of random encounters that can be ignored and enemies that appear on the map. You usually need to clear out the visible enemies in order to move forward but even they can sometimes be bypassed.
You buy equipment and items with Rainbow Coins and enhance your strength, defence and other attributes with Rainbow Pearls. You get coins and pearls from enemies, bags and chests that you find on the map. At each level you can only increase your attributes to a certain point before they are maxed out. Depending on your character class certain attributes only advance through levelling.
Battles are turn based strategy but battlefields are usually small so it doesn't take ages to complete a battle like say Fire Emblem.
My strategy so far has been to back into a corner so that no more than two enemies can engage me at one time. Enemies will sometimes drop loot bags and if needs be I leave the bag there because as long as I don't pick up the bag I am shielded on that side. Enemies don't know how to pick up or walk over loot bags apparently. This then causes enemies to line up and I take them out one at a time.
Anyway, it's been fun so far so I'm going to keep on going.
What did you guys spend your weekend playing?
