Can we discuss World of Warcraft for a bit...

If you read any of my blogs you would know that I love me some RPGs, JRPGs, and recently started getting into MMOs, actually for a couple of years now. However, the one MMO I never got into was WoW. This game is mentioned and brought up so much by people who either hate it or still love it. I've never felt compelled to play it because of it's aesthetic and outdated combat. MMOs have mostly moved towards action based combat now, like Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World, and currently WildStar, which makes it even tougher for me to want to get into it.

But I'm still interested in seeing what that game is all about, or at least seeing how it influenced modern MMOs. There has been some comparison to the new Destiny game to WoW, which intrigues me. I know you can play for free up to level 20. Anyway, I put up this blog because WoW is currently on sale for $10 which goes up to level 85. Pandaria is also on sale, gearing up for the next major expansion later this year. If you've played the game is it still worth it?

Anyhow, Hearthstone is really fun and great. It's only vaguley similar to the MMO in terms of theme, but it's still pretty good.

Thoughts? Thoughts?

Actually, I hope Blizzard puts more games on sale, like that Diablo 3 expansion. Cry

I've never played an MMO, but WoW intrigues me just because of how much it's talked about.

You can try it free up to level 20. No credit card required. Just create an account on Blizzard and DL the client. Cool

I'm the same as the Super. It kinda intimidates me to try it.

I dont know if it still worth it. I mean if your really interested in the story and what not then yea I say pay the 10 to buy it new and use ur 30 days free to explore it. For $10 your not gonna lose alot either way it goes. I havent played WOW in forever and Im pretty sure i wont be going back, even for the new expansion. The only MMO im willing to spend money on right now is Final Fantasy 14 ARR and  Im not even renewing that because when me and the ex broke up i lost my gaming buddy on it.

I might buy it for $10. What the hell, why not? I'll always have it in case I decide to play. I doubt I'd get very far in 30 days, but I'd like to check it out anyhow. Pandaria is still separate though, also $10. The new expansion will be like $50 I think.
Thats too bad about FF14. It's such a good game. I stopped when I finished the main story, and was kind of pissed that player housing was never implemented. I was also hoping for a new bucaneer class with guns, but oh well. I might check out the new update soon. Guild Wars 2 is starting their next season next month, and The Secret World is still totally rad!

I clearly remember being so into Warcarft II. Then Warcraft III came out and I got it and liked it ok and went back to WCII. Then World of Warcraft came out and I decided I didn't want to pay a monthly fee for any game. So I stayed away from that and went back to WCII. Now WCII doesn't work on my computer. What's a strategy gamer to do?

Ug, those paunchy pimply South Park characters make me a little ill to look at. Great episode though. Classic.

The only MMOs I subbed for were FF11 and FF14. I didnt sub for a long time. Just here and there, but I wasn't disappointed with the content. There are plenty of free MMOs out there that are really good as well. That damned South Park trolled us all. Cry

I've been considering the free aspect of World of Warcraft just to try it out. I'm not much of a PC gamer anymore though. I'm too worried about issues that might happen or fixes I may have to make by installing new programs.

I don't play MMOs because I don't see the point. I tried the first Guild Wars because there was no monthly fee but I quickly lost interest. I like my games to have a solid story and an end. I'm not interested in paying a fee to level up and collect loot. There needs to be a final goal.

I used to feel the same about MMOs, but my feelings changed after playing a couple of really great MMOs, that were free to play. RPGs are lonely experiences. It's nice to explore a world where you see other people sharing the same experience every now and then. Some MMOs have really great stories. Not all RPGs have great stories. The Secret World, Lord of the Rings Online have great stories and worlds to explore, and Guild Wars 2 has a 'living story' that never ends. The events of GW2 change the world permanently. They are free to play, with the exception of buying the game first, but there are no subs. I'm big on exploration, no so much leveling and loot. But I do love Diablo 3.

I've heard The Secret World has a good story and that it's kind of Lovecraftian so that appeals to me.

I've been playing Diablo III solo and having fun with it. It was worth the 24 bucks I spent.

I remember playing WOW in its early years, but only once and I didn't even own it.
