Platinum Games & Legend of Korra

So it turns out I stayed up until dawn playing Arkham City. This marks the first time in years that I've done that with a game. I guess we'll see if I'm as close to the end as I think I am.

I also just got done watching Rocky II, which I actually like better than the original. Watching III  next. I actually have never seen any of the original five Rocky movies until now that Netflix has them. I did catch bits and pieces of them and of course knew about them growing up, but the first Rocky movie I actually saw all the way through was Rocky Balboa in theaters. That's the sixth one. I loved the first two as dramas, but now I'm excited to see the campy III and IV and finally find out what the hell V is about.

The other news is, as I found out reading rmsk8r08's blog ... earlier today (?), Platinum Games will be developing a Legend of Korra game, which made me cum with excitement. That's graphic, I know, and I also found out season/book 3 of the actual cartoon Legend of Korra debuts today! And I'm ... skeptically optimistic about that after the mixed bag that was season 2. Still though, I freakin' love me some Avatar lore, so I'll watch the whole season as it's posted on nickelodeon.com regardless. I need to read those comics too. I'm proud of my ex and her fiancee for naming their new puppy border collie Korra. Speaking of which, I need to see that dog. That is a cute-ass dog.

And that's all for now. Off to Rocky III

I like the first Rocky.  Great movie.  I haven't seen two for a while, I think, I'm not sure.

That's fun that you played Batman all night.  IT's nice sometimes to get into something like that.

I really like the first Rocky too, but it was a little oddly paced to me. II was damn great.

I played Arkham City all night on release, good times. Advice when you head underground you'll see a button behind some bars, Batarang it. What part of the story are you on anyway?

Anyway, Platinum are wicked, I'm sure they'll make Korra wicked fun.

I just beat Mr. Freeze and am doing a side mission to find Nora before going to Joker.

And yeah, I'm excited about that combo.

Ah good, it seems you've just got to the last quarter (or in the third act), You'll be going underground soon.

Yeah, I'm now at the part where (SPOILERS) Hugo Strange is missle-coptering fools. Well actually I'm where his guards are attacking me. Please no spoilers on what happens next.

Mark me excited for a Legend of Korra video game!

That said, I need to catch up with the second season.

The second season was bumpy, but the ending set up some interesting possibilities for this new one.

The funny thing about the Rocky movies, they get the whole audience out of their seat in excitement in the theater. Not a lot of movies do that.

The sixth one didn't, but I'd have loved to see them upon initial release. That may depend on theater too though. I'm sure that happens in Phili, but Texas, I dunno. There'd be claaping, but standing ovations I dunno so much.

KnightDriver

Yea, it may be a Philly thing. I remember seeing one of them in the theater, maybe it was 2 or 3, and people went bonkers. I'd never seen that before.

Well, apparently similar things happened to Cary in Texas, but still, I'd imagine Philly loves their Rocky even more than most anywhere else in the world.

There is a statue of him in front of the Philadelphia Museum of art where Rocky runs up the stairs in the movie.

Yeah, they erect that statue in Rocky III. I'd love to run those steps, despite how touristy it'd look and the fact I would get shot on sight when an Eagles fan figured out I was from Dallas.

Yea, the Dallas thing. Lol.

I saw some of the Rocky movies in the theater.  What I don't get was that the people in the audience would cheer for Rocky.  Come on, folks, it's just a movie.

I never got into the Avatar and Koora cartoons (not enough time), but some of my little brothers love them.  I have respect for those cartoons, though, because there's not a lot of action adventure cartoons out there like they used to be.  There's a good chance I'll probably get to review the Korra game, too.

I stand corrected. I take it this happened in Texas, so KnightDriver is right about crowd reaction. I'd totally chant Rocky in a theater, that sounds fun.

Can't wait for your Korra review. You'd love the Avatar series.

Glad to see you're enjoying Arkham City. For me the characters are so nicely developed it's easy to get absorbed in the world. I wish all games did antagonists with such skill.

As for the Rocky's. I'd have to say III is my favourite so I hope you like.

Yeah, I never gave much thought to Mad Hatter, but after hearing his tapes with Hugo Strange, I'd love to see a thriller with Hatter as the villain. I like how mature the themes are with the villains too.

I like III, that's actually one I probably saw most of on TV. I still prefer I and II and II is still my favorite, but I dig the ending to III and it wasn't quite as campy as IV. I'm going on to V after I read all my messages here and then I will have seen all six Rocky movies. I'll likely re-listen to Spoony and Brad/Cinema Snob discuss all the movies again too.

I love Rocky III.  I saw it a few days ago.  It's funny.  I laugh everytime Mr. T talks. Laughing

It is pretty funny, but what I busted my gut laughing at more than anything was that extremely homoerotic workout montage where Rocky and Apollo Creed start smiling and hugging each other real big in the water on the beach. In all honesty, it's the one time I got real suspense from a Rocky movie. You pretty much know what will happen in all the other ones, but that scene really had me on the edge of my seat wondering if they were gonna blow each other right then and there.

Thunder Lips Hulk Hogan and Mr. T are funny too though. lol

Yeah, that splashing in the water scene is funny.  Thunder Lips is great. Laughing

The Rocky movies are on Netflix now? Hmm. I've never actually seen any of them but would like to.

I've been sitting on a copy of Arkham City for...man, maybe two years? It's sad. Too many games! Arkham Asylum was sure good though. The move to open world for City worries me a little bit because I'm not generally a fan of those sorts of games.

Cool news about Platinum Games. I've sure they're just doing a licensed game to help pay the bills but I'm also they'll still crank out an awesome game. That's what they do Wink

That is exactly what I said to myself about the Rocky movies a couple days ago and now I have watched and enjoyed them all. Bit bummed they don't have the sixth one, but I saw that before anyway, so oh well.

City is only as open-world as you make it. It's quite a bit like Asylum, just bigger.

It will certainly help with bills, but I imagine it's also a passion project. Avatar is a great and beloved series and I'm sure nothing like that Shamalyan movie will happen here cause, y'know, Platinum Games seems to still know what the hell they're doing.

Wow that is a long time to play a game. I think the last time I did something like that was with Tomb Raider II in college. Still haven't beaten the damn game. As for Arkham City, one day I'll get back to it.

I like the Rocky flicks, I think I've seen them all except for the most recent one. I did like the cheesy Rocky V

Super Step Contributing Writer

07/03/2014 at 12:10 AM

I thought V was less cheesy than III and IV, but you should check out Rocky Balboa. It's a lot closer to the original Rocky in tone than most any of the others.

I need to see what all the fuss is about with the Legend of Korra and The Last Airbender as well. Couldn't get into that series so I'm not sure if I will with Korra. In time I guess.

It might just not be for you. It's totally for me though. ALL FOR ME.
