A Couple of Games I Played Last Week

Good afternoon Pixlbit nation! So how was that Freedom weekend? Eat anything on a stick, blow something up, and hear Lee Greenwood at least a hundred times? It was nothing but steak all weekend in my little corner of the internet, along with watching the big fireworks display from my house, and then watching this one guy in another neighborhood next to mine try to out do the big show (I don’t know where he gets them, but he has the fancy fireworks that go up and blow up. Not the funky stuff that is sold by church groups and Target).

I also took in a couple of sports, Soccer and Canadian Football. I watched Netherlands/Costa Rica, and made my usual “How are you losing to a team that wears wooden shoes” reference, and watched the CFL, which I also referred to as Arena Football on a giant field (it’s the whole wide receivers going back 10 yards and then sprinting to the line of scrimmage). I think at one point my uncle and I figured out Saskatchewan’s Defense play calling which seemed a play behind Toronto’s offense. I also snuck in CD Saturday, but we'll save that for Quick Hits.

Between all of this and some power napping, I did take in some games.

I updated my 360 Avatar, to reflect baseball season.

It's a shame there isn't an option to remove the undershirt under the jersey, and throw some headphones on the guy.

Need For Speed Shift 2 – iPad/iPad Air/360

Ok so I played this title on three different formats. Why? Oh’s there’s a story. It started last week when I downloaded the game to the iPad Air. I wanted to get back into this game because I spent actual money on it, and I like the series. When I booted it up the intro screens and select screens were fine. The problem was with the car. It was a gray detail less image. I figured it was nothing and then proceeded to play it.

This was my view. The audio, and controls were fine, but the graphics were a bit off.

I finished the race like this. It wasn’t a big deal but your figure it should look like at least early PS2 games. I booted the game up on my old iPad and the game looks fine. After some big detective work (Google) I found that a lot of games have this problem because they’re not formatted to the new iPad Air so I’ll have to wait for an update.

I shifted (get it) my attention to the console version. I enjoyed the first on the PS3 and I decided to give it a shot on the 360 instead because the game was cheaper. Currently I’m 15% finished with the career but I need a faster car to compete in the current races I’m stuck in. I upgraded the two cars I bought but they are just not fast enough. I’m either going to have to repeat some races to earn some extra cash or just move on to other races. Also apparently I’ve lost my touch with drifting. I’m crashing into walls, spinning out, which shouldn’t be a surprise considering the last time the original was played was a couple of years ago. Practice. Practice. Practice.

Injustice: God’s Umong Us – Vita/iPad

This is another game I played on multiple platforms, but they are two different games. On the Vita I completed the main storyline, which seemed to go by a lot faster. This is probably because I already played through the PS3 version. I didn’t get a hang of the quick button portions which were actually screen swipes until the very end of the game, and the game felt a lot easier because I had an idea of what the controls were (who looks like the info screens?) I found the other side stuff more enjoyable, probably because I wasn’t burned out by the game by the time I tried those sections out. I’ll probably tackle more of the Starlabs stuff.

As for the iPad Air stuff, I went back to it because I wanted to see if I had the same problems that I had with NFS S2, and I didn’t but I played some of it anyways. I think I’m going to try and finish this version. Too bad there isn’t an option to pay $2 bucks so I don’t have to wait to recharge my fighters, I could finish this game in a couple of days.

Batman Arkham City – iPad Air

On my old iPad I got to the last level before the damn thing kept crashing, and it was basically marked the end of me playing games like this on the iPad. I took it up over the weekend, and after a couple of times of getting my ass handed to me, I got the hang of the game again. It’s all about timing and watching for a pattern. A bit of advice is to not play this game on your back because there are some parts where you have to tilt the iPad to steer the batarang.

Batman Arkham Origins – iPad Air

This game is a lot of fun because I’m currently stuck in my Vita game, and I have loaded up the PS3 version in over a month due to MLB The Show. This game is just like Injustice, with the one exception is this one is mission based compared to Injustice which is on a Fight Tree. Batman burns stamina or else I would be finished with this game in a couple of days. I think it was a freebie so have at it folks.

Simpsons Tapped Out – iPad Air/Android

This past week ended the Stonecutters theme and brought on the July 4th Theme bringing in George Washington

Where we learn that he thought the USA would only last a decade, and didn’t care much for Jebediah Springfield. Washington joins Abraham Lincoln as presidents roaming around Springfield.

Springfield also welcomes Giuseppe who makes fireworks. The Fireworks prizes were recycled form last year. A couple of new things that were added were Springfield’s version of the Space Needle

And Abraham Lincoln from the Lincoln Monument

Lincoln says some snarky things about it, which, were pretty funny. I forgot to screen cap them.

I also tried some of the 3DS/DS games I collected and the Titanic point and click Mystery game is fun, I'm still working on Crosswords Plus, and the Gameboy Kirby game. One 3DS game I finally got around to is this NBA Basketball game. I figured it would be a fun game that flashbacks to NES graphics. NOPE. Turns out it's a card game. What? What is the need for a card game for a sport? Easily the worst purchase I've made in quite some time.

Alright good people I must be off. I started writing this latest entry early this morning, did some work, and finished it off while eating lunch. Time for me to get back to go back to my project, so have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

honestly, that messed up Need for Speed looks beautiful.  Now that's my type of racing game!

When I was playing it, I thought it wasn't bad looking. It has a sci-fi vibe

The presidents roaming around in the Simpsons game sounds like it could lead to some great jokes.

There's some funny ones. Last year there was a whole don't tell Lincoln what happened to him, storyline.

I wonder how fast tablets need to be upgraded. I'd hate to think that if I got one, I'd be unable to run games effectively after only one year.

I haven't had any problems with the Nexus 7. The iPad was a different story because I went from a 1st Gen iPad, to the latest iPad Air, so there was a big jump there. From what I've seen the Nexus and iPad could easily last a couple of years playing the current games with no problem.

For something that much money, I'd like to get 5 years out of it.
