Two Worlds II Sucks

Yeah, you read it correctly.  I gave an hour and a half of my life over to what I had hoped might be a sleeper gem, as I'd read the Jim Sterling review years ago and rejoiced.

Not so, though.  My gripes are all contained in the controls.  I was warned by a few heads here, and now I understand.  I have to say though that Dragon's Dogma controls much better.

I ended up taking TW2 back and putting that cash on a copy of the Killzone Trilogy.  I've been craving some shooter lately, and Killzone 2 was the best shooter I've ever played aside from Team Fortress 2.  I missed out on the original Killzone when it dropped on PS2, so getting the trilogy seemed like kind of a no-brainer for me.

Plus, I need to hone my twitchy skills for the Destiny beta...

Other than that really all I've played in the last week is a bit of Thomas Was Alone.  I like it because it's a no-frills platformer.  Just shapes that are anthropomorphized by the British narrator.  It's a relaxing game to play.

I've also been playing a bit of Final Fantasy V Advance via the MyBoy! Emulator.  I know some people are against emulation and all that, but I could give a fuck less what people are against.  I'm enjoying it.  Immensely.

Anyhow, it's Friday.  Hope you all have a good weekend.

That's too bad. I honestly don't remember much about Two Worlds II other than it was, okay? Maybe? It's been a while, and I think so many better games have come out since then that it can't compare in quality maybe. I do love Kilzones though! That's a major upgrade!

TW2 is perhaps an "ok" game....but you were absolutely right when you told me that most RPGs pale in quality after playing and being addicted to Dark Souls and Dark Souls II.  I'd probably still be playing those two games had I not forced myself to move on.
I opted for the Killzone trilogy because I have really good memories from Killzone 2 and Killzone 3's multiplayer...though of the two I'd have to say that Killzone 2 had the superior multiplayer.  Playing these games will get me ready for Destiny.

Are you going to be playing Destiny?

If I get a PS4 this year I will be playing Destiny, a lot hopefully!

That Dark Souls Effect. I suppose part of the reason players stick to Dark Souls for so long is that other games just don't do challenging combat in quite the same way. So they keep playing NG+ or try to run through with bare fists or some challenging handicap to make it harder, ( multiplayer, etc.)

I for one got enough of DS and moved on. I'll revisit DLC maybe later in the year.

whatsacow mentioned playing through all of the Gears of War games, and I feel like following him. I feel like shooters sometimes.

there's a really good chance that I'll not be playing any more last gen (weird to think of ps3 and 360 as last gen) RPGs for a long time.  I do have to get through Demon's Souls though.

Do finish Demons Souls. It's a really great game and stands apart from the Dark series.

Killzone Trilogy is a good choice. I've been meaning to finish all those games for a while now.

the Radec final boss fight in 2 is one of the best boss fights, ever.

I know I've played most of the first one and played the demo of 2. It's very similar to how I've played the Resistance series. Want to get to that too.

my brother played Two Worlds 2.  I don't think he liked it.

it controls waaaay too "floaty" for my taste in an action RPG.  Action RPG controls should be tight and finely tuned.

Like Souls games. =)

Two Worlds just isn't very good. It is fundamentally broken in many regards. As stated before, if you want a similar game that is much better, try Risen. Don't bother with the sequel, but Risen 1 is an amazing low fantasy RPG that does A LOT right.

Thomas Was Alone is amazing, and has one of my favourite soundtracks in gaming history.

I ended up making the mistake of trying out Risen 2: Dark Waters when I still had the 360...it's pretty crappy.  I may have to check out Risen.  The Thomas Was Alone soundtrack is lovely....light and ambient.  It's good music to read with in the background.

On another note, how are you doing man?

Did you notice Risen III is scheduled to release in August? I know absolutely nothing about it.

Yea, I gotta go watch a trailer of it tomorrow. I was so excited for Dark Waters, but I had a hard time with the fighting system and gave up on it fairly quickly. Risen 1 also beat my butt bad, but it was so funny. I wrote a blog about my complete disaster with that game.

Link me up to that Risen blog....and I agree. ..Dark Water was rough seas

I was hoping you would say that. I had to find it on 1UP way back in July of 2012.

Alright gonna check it out now

Risen 2 is TERRIBLE. Risen 1 is effing hard, but once you work out how to use the combat system, it becomes pretty enjoyable. It's no Dark Souls, but it does offer a lot of depth if you use it right.

That's too bad. I had heard this was a quirky game that might be worth trying. Now I know!

How do "they" say FFV Advance stacks up against the original? I can't remember if it is the version to play or if a translated SNES ROM is the way to go.

Thus far, Travis,  the Advance version seems like the way to go.  However,  im still quite early in the game.  I read somewhere though that the ROM version youre referring to is the definitive version.

I went to a panel yesterday where ProJared I think (others on the panel were PeanutButterGamer, Angry Joe, and JonTron) said he got into Youtube video game reviewing just so he could shit on Two Worlds for how bad it was.

That made me smile

I need to see about Killzone eventually. I missed out on it too on the PS2 when it was being touted as a "halo killer". I liked the demos of KIllzone 2 & 3 so perhaps I'll look into it eventually.

Sucks about Two Worlds II. Jim Sterling gave it a glowing review? Really?
