Legion of Pixlbit what is up! It is a humid Friday here in my little piece of SoCal where I kid you not, four drops of water fell on me from the sky, add this to the two minute sprinkle-fest that happened earlier this morning and it is STORM WATCH 2014! It was like that scene in Truman Show where it only rained on Truman for a couple of seconds. Maybe I should go try and book a flight to Fiji and see if anything happens.
July is almost over which means football is right around the corner. SDSU Athletics posted this on Instagram a couple of days ago
And I’m excited. Here’s to hoping that we continue our streak of sending football to a bowl game, basketball to the dance, and baseball to the post season. Last season SDSU was the only school to do that in back to back years. The NFL training camps are in full swing with the Cowboys in camp in California, and hopefully they make the playoffs this year.
Since today is Friday, let’s celebrate this by having another Quick Hits with Chris!
Chris Loves “Reality” TV
Hell’s Kitchen had their season finale last night, and during the broadcast had a commercial for their next season of HK…starting in September. What? Yeah apparently it’s slowly becoming an all-yearlong show. How many restaurants does Gordon Ramsay own? Anyways I do like the “Come here you. Taste it. IT’S RAW!!!!!” and there is some slamming of food and plate.
NBC jumped on the cooking show bandwagon with their own show called Food Fighters. The premise of the show is to have a home cook take on a bunch of celeb chefs in meals they pick. It’s hosted by Adam Richman (the annoying guy who used to try and eat giant ass portions of food on the Travel Channel), and this show is set up like Iron Chef. Each “round” or meal you face a different chef, and are judged by five random folks eating this dish. If you win you earn cash.
The one episode I saw all the celeb chefs were good sports, except the Taco Bell head chef Lorena Garcia who tried to talk shit during the competition. Here is where I have a problem with this, You’re an actual chef, good, don’t get me wrong try your hardest, but trying to show off is just stupid. The other chefs took it in good fun, they knew they could blow the home chef out of the water, but didn’t flaunt it. It would be like me playing one on one against a 5th grader in basketball and dunking on them (on those lowered baskets) and then telling them I’m Shaq.
I’ll probably watch more of this because there is nothing on in the summers.
Big Brother booted another houseguest last night, but the one thing I give them props for is when Frankie Grande’s grandfather passed away, they aired his monologue he did in the HOH room during Big Brother After Dark uninterrupted. During the Head of Household competition they kind of let him win because one of the perks to winning HOH is reading a letter from your family as well as having pictures of them in your room.
Thrift Store Crazy
On a trip to one of the thrifts I saw they had a ton of wax boxes, and being the former baseball card guy I wanted to see if it was something I wanted.
There is a tub of 88 Topps, and Star Minor League baseball cards…for $30 a box. Wait, What? I guess there might be a Ken Griffey Jr. card in there but couldn’t you find the more popular 89 Upper Deck Griffey for that price (quick eBay scan said I could).

During the series with the Seattle Mariners, Fernando Rodney, a former Angels player who like to give up big hits to the opposing team. Well during the 8th Inning after striking out the Angels he did his Arrow celebration towards the Angels dugout. And then this happened in the 9th
The Angels ended up winning that game a couple of batters later. Seriously who celebrates in the 8th knowing that Trout, Pujols, and Josh Hamilton are coming up in the 9th?
Oh Alabama, I can’t wait for this little girl to pick Auburn as her school of choice. I’m going to say that the parents of this child probably never went to Alabama.
If I ever get married I want the SDSU Dance Team there.
Killing Battery on my Phone
One night I had to kill off battery on my phone so I could charge it up. It was at 50% but I didn’t want to charge the dang thing in the middle of the day so while playing some MLB The Show, I decided to stream a couple of things
I think this was the 4th or 5th time of watching Gravity (the HBOGo feed was good)
And listening to a couple of Chris Rock’s comedy shows.
After all of that, the battery was down to 29%. At least I know I can watch a lot before the battery gets drained.
Pickups!
Games
To add to my Wii library I added a couple of games I wanted to try
I’m building up my shooter library, and that drumming game is terrible. There is a delay in the between what’s on the screen and what I do with the Wiimote. Also having to push crazy button combos in the medium setting is just unnatural. Stay away from this game!
Since GameStop is currently in a Buy 2 Get 1 Free mode for Wii/DS games this was my freebie
The case is beat up, so hopefully I can run into a better copy in the future. I like the Nights game on the Saturn, and I haven’t tried this yet, because I’m waiting to play a bunch of it on the weekend.
Another GameStop pickup. I jumped on it because it was $20, and surprisingly it is good. What I like about this new Vita Lego games is that they are more of an action game that is completely different from previous games where they are just watered down console ports. The presentation is a map that the minifigs walk to the next world or can take detours if you collected enough supplies (I’ve been sticking to the main storyline). The touchscreen stuff is solid, and swapping different characters is easier. The new thing is that the characters no longer jump unless you hit parts of the screen where the character is able to jump. This is the first game in the LotR series that I like.
If you have an Origin account they are giving away this game
Since I spend 99% of my time on my Mac, it isn’t compatible, but I installed it on my PC Laptop. Come to think of it I think I actually own a physical copy of this game.
This is my new favorite tablet game and it’s free
Plundernauts on the iPad is freaking awesome. Think Pirates in space where each planet you visit, you are in a real time battle with another ship. You constantly drag your finger to move your ship to avoid fire, and if you are in range shoot at the other ship. Lots of upgradables, and after the battle, if you win you plunder the ship and take control of the planet. Each day the planet has gold that you collect and buy and upgrade ships. Lots of fun, check it out.
At K-Mart I found a gun for my Wii
It was on clearance and it’s not the official Nintendo grip but it works. The back of the gun can be removed so you can run the wire from the Wiimote to the nunchuck through the grip. I tried it with Far Cry, and it feels fine…but since it’s FPS and I kept running into walls because I’m terrible at controlling character with the nunchuck, I got dizzy.
Music
I picked up the Target Deluxe Edition of Common’s new album Nobody’s Smiling. So far it’s not bad, and I earned some street cred with Katy Perry’s first album. Yes I too kissed a girl and I liked it.

I do love my current phone case but I’ve been waiting for Nike to do something like this ever since Vans released their outsole case.
Marshall’s delivers. I found these behind all the loud Nike cases they have. On the left is the Nike Cortez outsole, and the right is the iconic Nike Waffles. The Cortez case is the one currently in use because it feels better in my hand.
Bonus shot of the only pair of Cortez’s I own, they were from a pack of shoes that were inspired by Japanese Tattoos.
Well Pixlbit, it is the start of my weekend, so I am off. I download that Destiny Beta everyone has been playing, and I’ll let you know how long I played it for before getting dizzy.
That’s all for now, more later!

Thanks! Love college ball, maybe a little more than the pros. I think it has to do with all the things that go on around the game (alumni stuff, bands, cheerleaders, crazy student sections). Both versions need to hurry up!
There have been some good iPad games that have dragged me away from the Android side of gaming especially Plundernauts.
The Wii does such a better job at the light gun stuff than the Playstation Move. This is what's holding me over because to my surprise the NES gun doesn't work with my TV. The Halos are on a roll! It's about time this team is clicking and all the come from behind wins just add to the drama.
I think the big thing for me about Gravity was the special effects...and my endless remarks about how Sandra Bullock needs a volleyball friend. Alleigh Bama should see that version.
