Well Happy Monday good people of Pixlbitland 3D! I hope your weekend was full of excitement and you can’t wait to get this good week started! My weekend was good, I had a strong CD Sunday where I found some interesting albums, which I will share with you folks on Friday, and I knocked another game off Mount Backlog. This game was surprisingly a lot of fun considering my lack of enthusiasm for the subject. I finished the main storyline for Lego Hobbit on the Playstation Vita.

Last week I bought this game on a whim because it dropped to under $20 at the local GameStop, and since I had a positive experience with the Lego Marvel game, which was completely different than the console version, I was hoping this would be more of the same.

The one thing that has remained constant is the zany cut scenes where your favorite Lego characters progress the storyline, and throw in a little humor. The one thing that has stayed from the other Lord of the Rings game was the low quality audio dialogue. It sounds like someone placed a recorder in front of a speaker bad. This might have worked for Chris in his Walkman days, but now not so much. This was my one negative about this game (shocking right?), let’s take a look at some of the things I really liked.

The traveling map is back which is fine because walking through this map isn’t a chore. You simply follow the green coins to the next section of the storyline. There are also sections of the path that go off into side quests like looking for weapons for various characters, and fighting off waves of bad guys. I believe these side quests offer a gold brick when completing each task. The main parts of the story also have gold bricks. There are ten gold bricks per level, each attached to a various in game task like completing a section within a set amount of time, finding six torches, along with finding the mini kit in the level. True to Lego form there is also the red brick. The red brick is a special power that makes like Lego stud multipliers to my favorite, invincibility.

The gold bricks have their uses because in some sections of the map, shortcuts can be only accessed if you have the set amount of gold bricks. Once one of these paths is found you are taken to a screen where you build a mini kit

The controls are simple where you can rotate the image, and you swipe down to place the bricks.

Within the map there are certain points where you can purchase items like those that need to be exchanged to open certain side quests along with characters that have been unlocked. There seems to be one of these shops per section of the map.

I know you’re wondering how is the gameplay? The gameplay is back to the same hit the buttons and watch your character fight off bad guys. There is a new section where once an enemy is down you hold down the square button to finish off the enemy. The boss battles are simple, and the interaction between the characters and portions of the level are still there. I honestly don’t understand the hate for these later Lego games on the 3DS and Vita. Instead of being a watered down port of their console counterparts, it is a repurposing of the same story. Think a reboot of the gameplay (minus the lens flares).

If you go into this game looking for something different from the consoles, turning your brain off, and watching Lego characters not be serious, this is a fun game. I’m currently playing the side quests and trying to unlock everything in the game.

Other Stuff I’ve Been Playing

Destiny Beta – PS3

So like many I’ve played a bit of this demo, and to me it feels like a pretty Borderlands.

I guess only AMERICA’S TEAM is in the future and they’re kicking alien backside!

MLB The Show 14 – PS3

I finished my third full season in the majors and the Dodgers beat the Angels in the World Series 4-2. This series hurt because it was against my Angels but I had a good series.

Video game Chris accomplished the Triple Crown, for the second straight year, which included the MVP award. The batting average race was tough because the last two weeks of September I couldn’t hit anything.

I won the Post Season MVP award but I’m pissed that I didn’t get World Series MVP. I hit three homers off three pitches in Game 1. Reggie Jackson would be impressed. I’m currently in Spring Training for season 4 and the Dodgers traded Yaisel Puig for Bryce Harper. Harper’s overall rating is 98, which is freaking awesome because he’s cleanup in the Dodgers Murder’s Row of Dustin Pedroia, Video Game Chris, Harper, Kemp, and Adrian Gonzalez.

Simpsons Tapped Out – Android/iOS

There was a level update but only one donut. What gives Origin? Also the update was made for the Krustyland section of Springfield, which is awesome because I never visit this section

Krusty lost half his amusement park to Princess Penelope in a divorce even though they were never together. Because of this situation there are new attractions and new quests.

Plundernauts – iPad

I moved up to Level 4, and upgraded ships. The pirate ship battles in space don’t get old but my new ship doesn’t have a shield, which makes it tough because it’s a slower ship. I tend to switch between my beast of a Level 4 ship and my Level 2 speedy ship when taking out bad guys.

I’m currently one or two planets past the sun, and I need to upgrade my ship to keep up with the enemy.

Well Pixlbit that is what I’ve been playing. Have you been playing anything interesting?

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

i just can't get into lego games.  I don't know why.  I really tried to like the Marvel Super Heroes game, and it WAS good, I just wasn't sucked in, and eventually gave up.

I missed out on Destiny.  I suppose I could have played it on PS3.  I just wasn't interested.  I don't know why.

The Destiny Beta is opened to everyone now. When it was first announced I thought it was another one of these "Halo Killer" games but I thought it was a lot of fun. I should try and max out my character just in case I can move him over to the full game.

I love them Lego games. I wish Hobbit hadn't froze up on my on 360. I really, really, want to finish it. I'd consider the Vita version, but I like to explore and see the world, and I like a big screen for that.

Man, Plundernauts looks cool.

That sucks about your copy of Hobbit. Hopefully at some point you can track down a working copy.

Dude, Plundernauts is so addictive. I just figured out I could create new items from scraps (that's what I get for not reading the info on items), and now I'm playing this game a lot.
