The Game Boy launched in North America 25 years ago today, and OCRemix has some GB love to celebrate. There is a whole album of great music but this song is the opener and the source should be familiar to anyone who was a kid in the early '90s. It's the Chinese song from Super Mario Land but this remix gives it a funky '70s twist while still retaining that Oriental sound. It's a really cool take on the song (the original is only about 30 seconds, I think), so be sure to give it a listen. And check out the rest of the album, of course! I know Super Mario Land gets a bad rap, but honestly, I played it a million times as a kid, and I can almost still remember all the levels. I mean, it was handheld Mario. We look back at it now, and maybe it sucked, but at the time, it was great!

I haven't played the original Mario Land (at least, I don't think so; perhaps a very long time ago...?), though I've played its more traditional sequel. But I really like what SML did. The series can always use fresh ideas. Egyptians and aliens? Sounds great!

Unfortunately, the music from OCRemix is blocked here at work. Man, I wish I could hear it right about now. Not sure if I'll have time to check it out when I get home. Thanks for sharing though.
