I'm finally posting my first blog.  This is a bit weird, but it has to be done if I'm going to be an active part of this community.  For people new to my blogs, I like to keep them simple.  I blog about games.  Games I beat, games I'm currently playing, and games I bought.  See, simple.  Cool  Sometimes I do "special" blogs.  I may post a collection blog, review, or rant about some of the nonsense that pops up in gaming culture.  All right, let's get this thing started.

Games I Beat:

The Witcher 2 (360)

 photo 997903_20120126_screen002_zpsa0cee1ad.jpg

This game is great.  It's a very mature & grownup game.  The story, characters, and style is what makes this game a special treat for anyone that can give it a chance.  I was a little afraid of the combat system, but I slowly learned it bit by bit.  I didn't fully understand it until I got the end of the game. Laughing

Dust: An Elysian Tail (360)

 photo c3367c74-6837-4bb5-a794-3b8ec1469441_zps1ae48b6a.jpg

Beautiful to look at and easy to play.  Even if I hadn't picked it up 50%, I would of been satisfied with spending the 1200msp to get it.  It's a damn good 2d action rpg.

I decided to add this vid to show off Dust.  It doesn't really do the game justice, but it gives you idea of how the game looks.

Gears of War 2 & 3 (360)

 photo GoW_zpsd24afb61.jpg

I just finished these games with my son.  It was a lot of fun playing with him.  The Gears games are just a good time.

Games I'm Playing:

Fallout 3 (360)

 photo 24b5abed-3282-4d3a-bfb8-d6735ddadbd9_zpsf164a630.jpg

I'm late to the party on this game and it's a damn shame too.  This game is great.  I was little bored at first, because I didn't know what to do to keep the story moving forward, but once I started exploring out, Fallout 3 is a good time.

Mass Effect 3 (360)

I hadn't played ME in over a month.  I'm only playing now because of the new dlc.  I only played it a bit though.

Xenosaga (PS2)

I only started it up.  So far it's pretty good.

Games I Bought:

Ni no Kuni (PS3) - I almost started playing it today.

Shiren the Wanderer (Wii) - I had no idea if this is good.  I hope it is.

Samba de Amigo (Wii) - I found this really cheap.  Had to get it.

Phantom Brave (PS2) - I got it for a great price.  Damn shame it didn't have a manual & case.

Dungeon Siege 3 (360) - Found it cheap.  I got the strategy guide for free and now I own the game.

The Witcher (PC) - I enjoyed the sequel so much, I had to get this game.  It was cheap too.

El Shaddai (360) - I wasn't a big fan of the demo, but it was only $2.99 on XBL.  I couldn't pass that up.

Mortal Kombat vs DCU (360) - I got it real cheap off XBL.

And that's it.  I really hope I can keep a constant blogging schedule here.  I plan to get at least one up a month.  With that on top of regular commenting, I PixlBit should feel like home in no time.

What are you guys playing? Cool

yay Xenosaga!

I'm playing Etrian Odyssey, Trails in the Sky, Skyrim, and Spec Ops: The Line. Oh and Jak and Daxter.

I need to get back to Xenosaga though, I love that game.

I bought Trails in the Sky on day 1 and I still hadn't played it yet.  I got to get on that game.

Fallout 3.  I have the GOTY edition and Im glad you said it gets better because I did find the first level, inside the vault, boring. I'll give it another go.

I have the GotY too.  The fault is pretty boring and there's not much to do once you get to Megaton, but when you start exploring, the game opens up.  You just have to go out and start your own adventure and everything starts to come together. Cool

I just finished off the kayran in the witcher 2.  It is my first playthrough.

Otherwise, I have played some of the Kirby 20th anniversary collection.

I had a tough time with that monster.  I had an easier time with the rest of the game, though I had more time to learn the battle system.

One of these days, I have to get Kirby 20th.  I still see new copies around.

Fallout 3 is great. Definitely one of my favorite games of this generation. I wouldn't recommend New Vegas. That game is buggy as all hell. I was seriously worried about the life of my ps3 because it crashed so much.

I have been wanting to play the Xenosaga games again for forever. That would take awhile though. It took me like five months or so to finish them the first time lol. Laughing

dude I've been playing Xenosaga 1 for like three years, and still haven't finished it.  Wink

jgusw

03/10/2013 at 02:24 PM

I really hope I can finish Xenosaga sooner than that. Laughing

03/10/2013 at 02:06 PM

ME 3 - only a little bit?! Are you sure? Wink

I really loved the Xenosaga series as a whole. However, be aware that the second game is a serious disappointment after the first. The third one redeems it, though. And you've just reminded me that I need to go back and finish Dust.

I'm playing Uncharted, Ni No Kuni, FF III, and the usual suspects (Pinball FX2, Zen Pinball 2, My Aquarium, and various other puzzle games). I tried getting back into Wild Arms 2 last night, but still wasn't able to get past the part where I quit last time.

03/10/2013 at 02:23 PM

I might start Ni no Kuni today.  I have the time, but I might try finishing that ME3 dlc first. Laughing

FFIII is one of my favorite FF games.  I really enjoyed it.

Hey man, Nice Blog. I has a recommendation for you! Since you have a pc that could run The Witcher, and you like dark, mature RPGs, I recommend Vampire the masquerade - Bloodlines. This is one of my all time favourite games, and plays out similarly to deus ex, in that it's an action game mixed with a hub based rpg. You play as a vampire, and the game touches on themes like child molestation, insanity, and humanity. Also, if you play as a Malkavian, you are properly insane. You gt to choose your back story, and one of the malkavian's is thinking you're a ninja, which means your gun skills are never above zero, because it's against the ninja code. As are ducks. Ducks are the Anathema of the ninja code! You also at one stage think the tv is talking to you. It's great!

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines.  That title sounds familar.  I think I saw a review on that game a couple years back.  I'll have to look into it.  Sadly, I don't have a PC that can run The Witcher, yet.  Hopefully that can be fixed this year.  Laughing

Oh damn. Well, this game came out in 2004, so even if you can't run the witcher it's worth a shot. That game goes on sale all the time, I picked it up on steam for3 bucks. It's 20 atm though.

That Dust game looks amazing.

It is.  It's a beautiful game.  The animation if very fluid.  I should of added a vid to this post too.

I haven't played any of these games.  I had Gears of war once, but I never finished it.

Dust looks freak'n cool with it anmie style.  Is that how that game looks during battles, or was that just a cut-scene?

jgusw

03/10/2013 at 08:27 PM

Dust looks great in battles.  There aren't any cutscenes, really.  They're just close-ups of characters' faces talking to each other.

Hope you get to play lots of Ni no Kuni.  It's really good!

No, I didn't play it.  I took a nap with the controller in my hand. Laughing

Good blog! I love reading about the games other people are playing, and which ones they beat (back in the day on the GameCritics forum there was a thread called 'Post Here When You Beat A Game, I Mean It!'.)

I'm really curious about The Witcher since reading about The Witcher 3 coming out next year for next gen consoles. They made it sound like Skyrim but twice as big. Sounds awesome.

As for Fallout 3, yep what a great game. One of the few I put 100+ hours into. And I still haven't finished it...

On the weekend I went back to FFXIII. I started playing it shortly after it was released but got to the boss Aster Protoflorian at 11 hours and couldn't get past it. But this time I managed to put that flowery bastard on its ass XD

03/11/2013 at 01:20 PM

I hadn't played Skyrim yet, but I'm sure it's much bigger than The Witcher 2.  The PC version of The Witcher should be pretty cheap by now.  If you can, I say get it.  You won't be disappointed.

FFXIII is one of my regrets.  I didn't like the story & characters, but I really enjoyed the combat system.  I made it to the last boss and quit.  That cheating bastard instant killed me twice and I was done.

I loved Dust! I beat the game but I am still trying to go back for everything I missed. I still need to play Fallout 3....I have it on Steam but I have yet to touch it.

jgusw

03/11/2013 at 01:21 PM

Fallout 3 is a beast.  I really hope it doesn't take 100hrs to beat the game.  I have other games to get to. :D

Dust and the Witcher 2 are the games that make me sad I don't have a 360 anymore. I'd really like to play them.

And now I've been reminded I still need to complete Xenosaga 3 and see how the story ends! Despite me not finishing it yet, it's a really good series with a nice cast of characters and story. And KOS-MOS! Gotta love her :D

jgusw

03/11/2013 at 05:49 PM

I bought all 3 Xenosaga games last year.  If I wasn't playing so much Fallout, I could give more playtime to Xenosaga.  I really don't like to play more than one rpg at a time.

All games I still want to play. Dust, Gears Of War 3, and Witcher 2 are still on my "must have" list. I've also added Ninja Gaiden Razor's edge to my imaginary dream collection. lol.

Good to see you made the jump, James!

Nice choices! I like your taste. The Witcher 2 is one I definitely want to take on. You just cannot go wrong with any Gears Of War title. All of em' are classics in my book. And I've read/seen so much info about Ni No Kuni that I'd feel like I was missing out on something very special if I did not give it a try.

The Gears games are great.  I hope the newest game is good too, though I didn't think we needed another Gears game.

Hey, its nice to see you around here. I just got on about a week ago. I would like to try The Witcher 2 but I likely won't. I am sure I will get into it with the third title. Its cool to see you playing Fallout 3. I think that is one of the best games this generation. I put in a ridiculous amount of time in that game. I have El Shaddai but I barely put any time into it. It was too weird with me. It will likely collect dust. You can't beat 3 bucks for it though.

jgusw

03/18/2013 at 05:19 PM

Welcome aboard, Keegs!

Man, if you get a chance to pick up The Witcher 2, I say get it.  It's a good game.

If I ever finish Fallout 3, my plan is to start Ni no Kuni, next or very soon.

El Shaddai is a weird game.

Nice to see a fellow 1UPer. I have been recently playing through Spec Ops: The Line (got for free through PS+). I am not that far into it, I am playing on the hardest difficulty and admit there are some tough parts. So far I don't yet see what the praise is about, maybe I just have to keep going.

I bought the Witcher 2 recently but I haven't touched it yet. It looks like an awesome game!

I sat on the Witcher 2 for months and I could of been enjoying all that time.  It's a really good game.  I plan to playthrough it again.

Would you have to have played the original Witcher to get the story?

jgusw

03/22/2013 at 08:08 PM

No.  There are a few flashbacks that explain a little.  I hadn't played the original, but I understood enough.

I used an image from the new Gears Of War game in my blog today. But I hear it's just more of the same. Oh,Cliffy B! Why have you forsaken us? Hope that guy returns to do some amazing work. He just needed a break I suppose.

03/26/2013 at 07:21 AM

After GoW3, I felt the story was done.  It was a great run and it was over.  This 4th game was really not needed.  It crossed that line into being "milked for more money" now.
