Nintendo franchises that might make neat Warriors games

For Hyrule!

So Hyrule Warriors is a month away and I'm really excited for that. That was a surprising announcement when they revealed it, it was something you wouldn't expect but if you think about it, the idea just works. I never played a Warriors game before but I will most certainly check out more games from the Warriors series after Hyrule Warriors. But one thing that got me thinking, are there other Nintendo franchises that would translate well into a Warriors game?

Well the answer is yes, there are. Maybe. I've been brainstorming this blog for a while now and I thought really hard about which Nintendo franchises would work and translate well into the Warriors style of gameplay, there will be some obvious ones and some you might not expect. I will even throw in a third-party one just because. Whether you agree with my choices is up to you but let's get started then:

Mario and Luigi

Mario: I know what you're thinking, why Mario? Well from what I undertand from the Warriors games, they give you a bunch of characters to play as. Yeah I don't know much about the series okay. But the Mario franchise is rich with lots of characters to use, like it could be Bowser declairing war on the Mushroom Kingdom and all of Bowser's henchmen will be on the attack. Mario and Luigi will join the fight. But let's not only add Mushroom Kingdom, let's add more worlds from Mario like Yoshi's Island, whatever Daisy's kingdom is called, and maybe some galaxy levels. You could have playable characters from nearly every game in the franchise, heck you can even play as Bowser since Ganondorf is playable in Hyryle Warriors. But think about it, burning up goombas and koopas with Mario's skills, heck they can even add FLUDD if they wanted to. They might have to give it a story but we'll see what happens since Mario games have little to no story.

Kirby

Kirby: Yeah we are treading into wtf territory now. Why Kirby? Well because Kirby is such a versatile character. He has alot of moves and attacks in his normal form, but when he get's an emeies power with his copy ability, his moveset and skills increase. It could involve some interdimensional badguy like all Kirby games do, controlling or making a ton of badguys take over Dreamland and Kirby teams up with Meta-Knight and King Dedede to stop the threat. There are also a ton of characters to play as from the series, like the characters from Kirby's Dreamland 3, Kirby 64 and more. Plus let's give Kirby those super abilities from Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Kirby's Triple Deluxe. Plus this being a Warriors styled game, they can drag in characters, enemies, and worlds from other Kirby games like Canvas Curse and Epic Yarn.

Metroid

Metroid: They are making Zelda so why not Metroid? I thought about it and there is no way F-Zero would translate well to this, unless Falcon Falcon Punched enemies but that it's a Captain Falcon game, that's a Captain Falcon Punches Stuff game. Starfox, well they technically throw alot of enemies on you already so that one gets a pass. But Metroid might actually work. Tecmo/Koei already worked on the Metroid franchise with Other M and before anyone starts, yes I enjoyed it for what it was. It was fast-paced, it had alot of secrets, the post-game stuff, and the gameplay was great. Yes I'll admit the voice-acting and the cut-scenes weren't great, especially Samus getting scared of Ridley and whatnot but it's jsut a game. Plus they did say they were exploring the human side of Samus, so that gave you a warning flag.

With that out of the way, Metroid. I think it could work, Other M showed us how fast-paced and athletic Samus can get and I think the Warriors games are fast-paced. Plus the games give you a ton of characters and weapons/skills to use from, atleast from what Hyrule Warriors showed. Samus has all of that and more. You can pick a suit and depending on the suit will be the skills you'll have. Like obviously the Varia Suit will be better equipped than the Power Suit, and the Gravity suit will be better in water enviroments. Plus you can have upgrades like in the Metroid games for the suits and such. Heck you can play as Zero Suit Samus and her skills will be different. Plus why not bring the hunters from Metroid DS and Prime 3 into the mix as playable characters? Each have their own skills and powers. Imagine Ghor using that robot suit to attack enemies? Or Rundas using his ice attacks, but Samus' Ice Beam might not make that as awesome. Or Gandrayda using other unters or enemies powers? Wouldn't that be cool? It can also have levels from other Metroid games, heck why not make enemies like Ridley playable too?

Smash Bros

Smash Bros: It's basically Smash Bros with everything I'm saying here combined. Characters from all the franchises in one game using their own powers in a Warriors games. Nuff said.

Pokemon Conquest

Pokemon: A while back there was a Pokemon game called Pokemon Conquest which was a game made in collaboration by surprise, Tecmo/Koei. It's a strategy rpg that has you fight warriors and warlords using Pokemon. I never played it but that's all I know. Now think about it, that was probably foreshadowing what was going to happen in 2014. Now think for a moment, what if they take what they did for Pokemon Conquest and turn it into a Warriors game? Plus they could also explore the Kalos war in Pokemon X/Y or the fan theorized Kanto Wars, that last one is a theory though.

Or how about just make a main styled game but using the Warriors engine. For those that always wanted to battle Pokemon like in the anime, then you can, but rather than follow the plot of the anime, it could either use the plot of the games or the manga that is basically a retelling of the games. Imagine fighting a barrage of Zubats in Mt. Moon with your (insert starter Pokemon here). I think a better game that will translate well or one they will most likely do is a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game but in Warriors style. Plus the Pokemon franchise has over 700 pokemon now, you'll have a ton of Pokemon to choose from now. Plus with the leveling up and learning new moves, I'd say it's a perfect fit for it. I'd buy it day one, so get on that.

Megaman

Bonus: Megaman: Think about it for a moment, Megaman. It can work with all the powers Megaman get's especially from the Robot Masters. Also, why not make them playable too? Wouldn't that be neat? Also allow you to explore worlds from all the Megaman games and allow you to use characters from those other games. And have you use Doctor Willy, is there a game that you can use him/ I don't know of any but that would be cool. That would be a really neat twist for the formulla, heck if it does well Capcom will see people are still interested in Megaman and maybe we'll get Megaman Legends 3 or the Armature games Metroid Prime styled Megaman X game that got cancelled.

Fire Emblem

Fire Emblem: Fire Emblem is a franchise that's been getting alot of love from nintendo lately, especially in Smash Bros. The Fire Emblem franchise is a game series that will translate perfectly into a Warriors styled game, sure it might be swordplay like Zelda but that's not all there is to Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem has alot of different characters and not all of them are sword users, I think there's also magic users and other characters with different weapons. All of that will translate well into a Fire Emblem game since you'll have all those playable characters and all the levels from all the games in the series. I haven't played the recent one or much of the series all I got to say is that this one is just begging to be made into a Warriors games.

So those are my picks. What Nintendo franchises would translate well into a Warriors styled game? Any other third-party game you'd think would work well? How about any other games from the other consoles? I initially thought of adding Halo but I'm not much of an expert on Halo so I wouldn't know what I'd be talking about. So thanks for reading and later.

I think Zelda and Pokemon are it really. Mario and Kirby are too nonviolent for a Warriors game, Fire Emblem doesn't have as many iconic characters, Metroid and Mega Man are too range focused. I could maybe see Smash Bros, but we already have Smash Bros for that. I'd rather see Star Wars than any of these personally.

Also there's not much reason to get into all the DW games. Just get the most recent one. They're mostly the same game with a few new bells and whistles.

I'd say just make a Smash Bros. version and call it a day. I mean game. You could pretty much just have all the characters that would work well for that style that way. Maybe throw in characters that couldn't be fit into actual Smash Bros

That being said, I think ZeldaI really is the prefect Nintendo IP to do this with, because of the swirdplay. At least I'd think so. I've never actually played a DW title either.

Aw you stinker!  :)  You stole my idea for a blog.  Oh well, mine's going to be a bit different and not limited to just Nintendo franchises.  And I'll post it closer to the game's release in about a month.  One of your ideas is on my list, I'm sure you can guess which one.

I'd get a Mario & Luigi Warriors game. That sounds awesome!

I always wanted to play Pokemon Conquest - so want that game.

From the day 1 that Hyrrule Warriors was announced it was clear to me that Koei Temco wanted to Fire Emblem. It make sense for the structure of Dynasty Warriors to fit Fire Emblem structure. I bet they got Zelda because Nintendo figured that if they could make Zelda a seller, which apparently Zelda isn't a big game in Japan, they would eventually get Fire Emblem. Unfortunately, the game is not doing so well in Japan right now but maybe the Western release will change that.
