Never knew abouT CGI Donkey Kong Country but that may be a so-bad-it's-good thing for me. At least for an episode.
The Top 5 Worst Video Game Cartoons

Ugh! These are some of the worst cartoons your poor eyes will ever see!
I hope you've all enjoyed looking back at VG cartoons for the past 30 years. We all grew up watching them to some extent, so there's a touch of nostalgia there, but analysing each one has certainly been fun for me. Yesterday I did the top 5 best VG cartoons, so today I'm gonna wrap things up with the top 5 worst. Once again, this is my opinion, but I doubt you'll disagree that all of these cartoons are pretty bad. Go ahead and let us know which VG cartoon you despise the most and why. Thanks for reading, as always!
5. Darkstalkers (1995, Capcom)
The Darkstalkers series is one of the creepiest fighting game franchises around, the cast of monsters being bizarre and freaky. It's a horror fighting game series. You would never know that watching this cartoon, which is goofy and ridiculous. There's not even a smidgen of creepiness in this show. Vladimir (who is a vampire) is goofy, and his cheesy voice doesn't help. You can tell they were aiming at kids, but in the process, they ruined the show completely. The animation is terrible. The character designs, while amazing designs, do not translate to the characters here at all: just look at Morrigan--she has big weird eyes on her face that make you cringe every time you see them! The writers must've forgotten that the show was aimed for kids because the characters will wax eloquent in philosophical banter every now and then, which is too much for any eight year old to handle. The cast of characters is not done justice, and that's a shame. This horror show is not creepy, it's laughable.
4. Super Mario World (1991, Nintendo)
This cartoon, which is one of the worst cartoons ever, is based on one of the best games ever. How sad! SMW takes place in Dino Land, where Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Bowser and his family all live, for some reason. While coming up for the show, the writers must have thought, "If there's dinosaurs, there must be cave people too!" So now cave people are thrown in just because, and we have a show that feels like The Flintstones devoid of any kind of good qualitites. Yoshi makes his grand appearance as well, but if you're a Yoshi fan, you will weep because of how helpless and annoying they made the dino. Yoshi adds nothing good to the show--nothing! Most the episodes have Mario and Luigi trying to help out the primitive cave people while Bowser tries to capture the princess or destroy something. Episodes are also padded out with stupid things, including accidents (Luigi slips on a piece of ice, really???) and terrible songs (cover your ears!). No wonder this was the last Mario cartoon!
3. Donkey Kong Country (1997, Rare)
Here's another one based on a great game (a series, in fact) that is anything but great. This one is complete CGI, which was a big deal in 1997. However, even the CGI can't save it from being a total waste of time. I'm not kidding when I say that I cannot even sit through an episode of this because it's so painful! The jokes are so low, the characters are so goofy, and the stories are so ridiculous, that you won't even crack a smile; instead, you'll groan in pain. The fun bouncy nature of the DKC series has all been stripped away, and we're left with a hollow show that makes all the characters even more stupid than the average monkey.
2. Bubsy (1993, Accolade)
Bubsy is truly amazing--in a bad way. Bubsy has never had a good game to his name. The Bubsy series may very well be the worst series in video game history. And the cartoon is no different. Bubsy is a cat with attitude who has a shirt with a ! on it. Cool! I don't need to make much of a case for this one because it never made it past the pilot. That's right, the TV people saw that it was nothing but garbage, and we were spared from watching a whole series. The pilot episode is atrocious, filled with jokes that get reiterated throughout and black and white live action footage that is spliced in randomly with some of Bubsy's lines (which would have been funny if it wasn't so overused). Bubsy's "What could possibly go wrong?" line followed by disaster gets old fast, leaving us with a terrible pilot episode devoid of any kind of enjoyment. So Bubsy holds true: worst games ever, and one of the worst cartoons, but not the worst.
1. Battletoads (1992, Rare)
I remember first hearing about the Battletoads cartoon, and the rumors were that it was pitiful and painful to watch, and I thought, "It can't be that bad." So I watched it for myself. Gah! The rumors are true! This one also speaks for itself because it never made it past the pilot (thank you, TV gods!). Three of the most nerdy 90s teens you've ever seen are transformed into the Battletoads. Here's the kicker: the Battletoads are just as retarted as the teens; they don't suddenly become "cool" or anything. Everyone in the pilot is beyond goofy, including the Dark Queen, who wants to capture the princess (how cliche). Battletoads' main competition was the Ninja Turtles cartoon, but where that cartoon excels with its characters and stories, this one crashes and burns. There is nothing "cool" here, only painful. This cartoon series could have been great, but they took the 'toads in the wrong direction, and everything is a little off. No, it's way off. And that's why Battletoads is the worst video game cartoon out there.
