Those awesome, foot-pounding video game tunes are back!

So I haven't posted one of these for awhile because of my blogs on VG cartoons (which you should check out if you missed). It took a lot of time to watch those cartoons, so I had to put these blogs to the side, but now that the cartoon blogs are done, we can finally listen to some great VG music again! In fact, I'm looking forward to getting back into the normal groove of things as we move into the fall. It's been a busy summer for me; hope you guys all had a good one this year.

I don't have a specific theme for this particular VG Themes. I thought since this is the big return, I would just kick things off with some of my favorite tunes, and later on I'll post more specific-themed ones. So here are eight VG themes which I love! Hope you enjoy!

Meadow Breeze from Kirby Mass Attack (composed by Shogo Sakai)

I love this song, which is really the main theme for the game. The main instrument used here sounds to be an accordion, which is awesome! The entire song is so soothing, yet has a driving beat that keeps it all moving nicely. I think I could listen to this one endlessly and it would only improve my day.

Caught Red-Handed from Mighty Switch Force (composed by Jake Kaufman)

As always, Jake Kaufman did a fantastic job with this soundtrack, which is techno-driven themes that feel space-like and futuristic. One of the best themes is this one, which you may bounce to as you play the game, it's so awesome and infectious. Heavy-driven strings, a resounding beat, and the simple melody all combine here to make a song that is filled with fun personality.

Title from Dr. Mario Online Rx (composed by ?)

I've always loved the title theme for Dr. Mario, but this remixed version is even better due to the particular instrumentation they use. The whole thing is a chilled theme that is fun and relaxing. It has a smooth jazz sound to it without feeling overbearing. It's the perfect music to listen to if you're ever sitting in the waiting room, waiting to see the doctor.

Athena Cykes--Courtroom Revolutionnaire from Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies (composed by Noriyuki Iwadare)

Iwadare has grown to become one of my favorite VG composers. All of his soundtracks are so intensely exciting, which I love. He seems to be the main Phoenix Wright composer now, having done several of the games single-handedly. The soundtrack to Dual Destinies is the best in the series, having each person have his/her own theme. Iwadare manages to pull off every kind of mood with his themes, which is truly remarkable. This particular song is when Athena is on a roll in the courtroom, which is very exciting. His songs have so much energy and spunk, they'll lift your spirits if you're down.

Theme of Pandora's Box from Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (composed by Tomohito Nishiura and Ryoki Matsumoto)

This song is very mysterious, starting out with an ominous piano and violin, slowly building up to when things get going, and wow, they get going! I've always enjoyed Layton music. It's quite distinct, using only a handful of instruments, but using them well. This song also ends mysteriously, leaving you wondering if the mystery will ever be solved.

Searching for Friends from Final Fantasy VI (composed by Nobuo Uematsu)

I had to include a song from FF6, my favorite VG soundtrack. This song plays during the second half of the game when you're flying around in the airship. You'll hear it a lot, but you'll never get sick of it. The song is melancholy yet enjoyable, offering just enough hope to keep pressing on. I can never brag enough on the fantastic instrumentation Uematsu uses in this game. Everything sounds so crisp and he never wastes any parts of a song.

Longing from Children of Mana (composed by Kenji Ito, Masaharu Iwata, and Takayuki Aihara)

Say what you will about the game, but Children of Mana has a great soundtrack. Good instrumentation and fun melodies make this one an enjoyable soundtrack. The song "Longing" is soothing and enjoyable, giving off a feeling of relaxing in a cozy village. It's a stand-out song among many, with a soothing beat and a calming melody.

World Bowser from Super Mario 3D World (composed by Koji Kondo, Mahito Yokota, Toru Minegishi, and Yasuaki Iwata)

Super Mario 3D World has a fantastic jazzy soundtrack. This awesome villainous theme really stood out to me, though. It's combination of strings, saxophones, and goofy organ create an instant classic. It's just fun to listen to. It's not dark and ominous, and it's not bumbling and goofy either; it straddles the fence, being inbetween cool and goofy. It's perfect.

My favorites are Switch Force and Super Mario 3D World I think.

Both soundtracks are fantastic. Most Mario games these days have jazzy soundtracks, and I love it!

I was gonna say, the Mario track sounded like a danceable jazz track played by a live band comprised of silly-looking ghosts playing to an audience of choreographed ghost dancers who were doing some next-level moves with their partners.

I'm not on drugs, so where did that come from? Must be a lack of sleep.

It also sounds like it would fit in that bar from Star Wars

Kirby Mass Attack has great music. I love how they used themes from Air Ride, too.

I also like the music in the Phoenix Wright games.  But then, it is my favorite game series on the 3DS.

I consider FF6 to have the perfect soundtrack.

Phoenix Wright nails it on everything: stories, characters, and music. Probably my favorite 3DS series too; playing through Layton Vs. Wright right now and enjoying it!
