Pokemon Red vs. Blue

I was discussing with a friend how I believe that despite water obviously beating fire, most kids I knew chose Pokemon Red, probably just because Charizard looked cooler than Blastoise.

But I wanted to know for sure that this really was the trend in sales in the United States. According to this unsourced chart sourced by Wikipedia however, Blue outsold Red in the U.S. by quite a bit, boasting 5.02 million copies sold versus Red's 4.83 million.  http://www.the-magicbox.com/Chart-USPlatinum.shtml

But again, that chart doesn't say where it got its numbers from, so I don't feel satisfied with its projections unless someone can point me in the direction of a reliable source that says where it got its numbers from. I already searched the website's forums for Pokemon related threads and came up empty.

This sales distribution is proving a lot harder to figure out than I thought, due to the tendency of every official source I've read to lump the two games together as one. I mean yeah, they're basically the same thing aside from the boxing and a few of the Pokemon being version-exclusive, but I figured some reputable source would still have tracked the sales of these versions separately. I still think at least one probably did, but I obviously haven't been able to find it.

If you happen to know which version sold better and can provide a good source for that information, please let me know. This is already driving my nuts.

These two images were on the first page of my Google search for "physical representation of frustration with lack of available sales figures for pokemon red and blue driving my nuts"

Gonna say the keyboard kid is Red and Lady Gaga is Blue for obvious reasons

If you can't find a link to a good source comparing the sales of Red to Blue, let me know which you think actually sold more copies, which was your favorite, and why, if you feel so inclined.

And do you like Lady Gaga or Keyboard Kid better? Knowing this site, I'm guessing Keyboard Kid. Personally, I might actually like their offspring the best. We'll say that's the Green option. Yellow is that offspring's cousin, I guess.

Left: first "green" result I found for Google search "keyboard kid and Lady Gaga offspring"

Center: first "yellow" result found for Google search "keyboard kid and Lady Gaga's offspring's cousin"

Oh yeah, I have had several of my articles go up on http://plus10damage.com  recently. I kind of went on a writing rampage after slacking off during summer, so quite a few articles on the front page were authored by Joe Step (me). Check them out, like them and comment on them if you would. Please? Please? Pleeeeeeeaaaaase?

keyboard kid is playing a melodica, a very cool instrument.  I definitly prefer him.

I knew there was a name for it, but I was too busy Googling overlong word vomits to Google that.

When I reviewed the first Pokemon game for The Dallas Morning News, I got the blue version.

That's cool. How'd you like it at the time?

At the time I played it to death.  That's probably why I don't play as much Pokemon now, I kind of OD'ed on it back then.  But considering I was getting paid to play it back then, you can't blame me.

Have you tried Vgcharts yet?

Looks like they treat it as one game as well. I personally think the exclusive Pokemon alone should have warranted the numbers for each red and blue box being tracked separately, but nope.

I'm pretty sure I had Blue version. (It was whichever one didn't have Vulpix in it. Heartbreaking.)

And by had it, I mean my cousin left it behind when he visited once, so that made it mine for the couple of months until I saw him next :P

And uhh, tough choice with the Red vs Blue. Can I just pick Yellow instead? xD (Was the first pokemon game I properly owned anyways x3) Only one I ever owned a Mew in either. Yay for glitches! :D

You can pick whatever you want personally, I was just asking what made more money. lol

Edit: Wait, no. I did ask peoples' favorites. Sorry, my getting frustrated at the lack of sales figures made me sound like an asshole. Frown Yellow is a fine choice. I remember liking that one cause it was in color and had a surfing Pikachu.
