Kirby's Dream Diary, Vol 1

Dear Diary,

This is unbelievable. Everybody knows that King Dedede is a turd but seriously, he stole all the food in Dream Land for himself. Well guess what, Dedede, I'm hungry! So I set off to go get some grub and it turned out to be a longer trip than I'd expected, though still not too bad. But I had to fight a bunch of Dedede's cronies along the way. Aren't they hungry too?!? Sheesh. Even Waddle Dee got caught up in the frenzy. Dedede had four main cronies, if you count the pair in the castle as just one. (What's up with them anyway? Lololo and Lalala? They looked familiar, like they ought to have been heroes too. Hard times, I guess.) There was also that big tree in the forest, that weird blimp thing, and a spikey eyeball cloud (it wasn't as scary as it sounds).

Kirby-Lololo-Lalala

Box to the face = not cool

So I busted through all them and got to Dedede's castle and had to fight them all again! What kind of freakin' dark magic was that?? Anyway, they didn't stand any more of a chance the second time around than they did the first, not when my tummy was all rumbly. I just kept sucking up whatever was close at hand and spitting it out again. Enough slobbery stars will knock out anything. (You know, Diary, when I swallow some enemies, it's like they have a unique taste or something. It's almost like that...that flavor will stay with me but then it's gone. Does that make any sense? I was probably just mad with hunger but I'm gonna try to figure it out.)

So once I beat the stuffiing out of King Dedede (how did he get to be king, anyway?), I floated the castle over Dream Land to drop the food for everybody to eat. I was super hungry but I gotta play the hero, right? I couldn't keep it up long but by the time I got down everyone was back to normal. I smacked Waddle Dee a good one, though, just for good measure. Guy's a sheep, I'm telling ya. Anyway, I'm going to sleep. Heroing is hard work! And I deserve some peace and...more cheesecake. Okay, a little more cheesecake and then I'll got to sleep. Well, maybe A cheesecake and then sleep. Yeah.

Kirby's Dream Land ending

Night night.

How did DeDeDe get to be king?

The citizens of Dream Land either have really poor judgment or they're total pushovers.

"Spikey Eyeball Cloud" is the perfect band name.

Have you seen Kirby's skills on a mic? He'd be the perfect frontman for Spikey Eyeball Cloud Wink

It may be hard to believe since I'm such a big Kirby fan now, but I wasn't sold on the original Kirby game when it came out.  Oh sure, I had my eye on it, being a game from HAL and all, especially since back then I was a huge fan of the Adventures of Lolo games.  And I also appreciated how it was a game designed to be easy for younger players.  However, back then I was just a kid with a limited income, and paying money for a game I could beat in an hour just didn't make much sense back then.  Really, the first Kirby game to get me hooked on the series was Kirby's Dream Course!

Which is surprising because Dream Course isn't even a traditional Kirby game!

Two reasons why Dream Course was the first Kirby game that got me into the series.  One, most of the Kirby games prior were on the Game Boy or NES.  And I was knee-deep in SNES territory (again, kid with a limited income so I couldn't afford to buy a bunch of games for multiple consoles).  So Dream Course being one of the first SNES Kirby games helped.  Also, Kirby's Dream Course is a reworked version of a never released game called Special Tee Shot.  I was interested in that first game ever since I saw screens of it on the back of my SNES box.  It looked like a mix of Marble Madness and mini-golf.  So that's why I played it.

I'm assuming this is the frist Kirby Dreamland game? Awesome!

King Dedede seems to be the dark side of Kirby: he lives to eat too, but because he's evil, he steals everyone else's food instead of getting his own. This explains why the greedy glutton is so fat.

Yeah, it's Dream Land 1. It's kind of a relaxing game to play because it's easy and short. You can easily play it in one sitting (which you have to, actually, since there is no way to save your progress).

I think this was an episode of the Kirby animated series. I'll need to double check.

Probably. It's kind of the story of Kirby's life lol

After seeing some of the Kirby cartoon on Last Ninja's blog, and always being interested in Kirby Epic Yarn, and now reading this about Kirby's first game, I'm even more keen to try a Kirby game.

Definitely pick up the Dream Collection for Wii. It's got all the mainline Kirby games through the N64. That's...seven games, I think?

I've eyed that collection at Gamestop many times. Got to pull the trigger on that one.
