Hey folks. Monday, September 15, is my birthday! So to celebrate, here’s a fun blog and a quiz! We’re going to do the whole ‘pretend birthday party’ thing like I do every year, so if you’re interested, keep reading! (Yes this is kind of a filler blog, but I don’t do too many of those, so don’t worry.)
So here’s how that works. In the comments section, write a pretend birthday present that you think I’d like. It can be anything you want, since it’s just pretend. Best part is it won’t cost you anything! And then you can have a piece of my pretend birthday cake! It can be any flavor you want, it has no calories, and it gives you super powers! Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with! I need some cheering up anyway because sometimes I get discouraged that I’m close to 40 years old and haven’t done many of the things adults are ‘supposed’ to do by now, like get married, have kids, own a house, etc.
Since I don’t have anything else to put in this blog, I thought I’d also write a fun quiz about things I like that you can guess about if you’re interested. I try not to do this too often, because I don’t want you all to think I’m self-absorbed or anything like that. This is simply a ‘just for fun’ thing. I hope you all don’t think I’m self-absorbed or whatever, because I know a lot of game reviewers who act that way (nobody here on Pixlbit, though). I don’t think all those game reviewers are REALLY like that, they just may come across that way on the Internet. But I try to be careful and not be like that myself, so if I do that unintentionally, please let me know so I can make sure not to do that in the future.
Writing that paragraph just now got me to thinking about something. Everyone’s talking about this whole ‘GamerGate’ thing but I haven’t been keeping up with it at all. I’m too busy having fun playing games like Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright. But I have read a couple of things where people claim that video game journalists aren’t really journalists at all and don’t do any journalistic work. As a game journalist myself, I feel the need to defend myself a little bit, because that kind of hurt my feelings slightly. While it is true that I don’t do any REALLY important journalistic work writing game reviews, I do a lot of things that I learned while majoring in journalism in college, as well as experiences I gained while writing for The Dallas Morning News, an actual newspaper. I do research, I find contacts, I ask questions, etc. So next time you feel the need to complain about game journalists’ duties in general, please remember what I wrote just now. Thanks.

6. There must be a lot of SNK fans where I live because as a kid, I saw NEO GEO arcade machines everywhere! So I had a lot of exposure to that stuff. Definitely one of the harder questions, though.
7. Ivy scares me. And who the heck is Xina?!? I don't even think that's a character. Although since you can make your own characters in that game, I guess you could name one Xina.

9. I don't mind the leafy spinach in salads, but canned spinach is nasty.

And thanks for the mints. Are you trying to tell me I have bad breath? It must be really bad breath if you can smell it over the Internet. I don't really like mints, though. If I need a breath saver or gum, I'll pick cinnamon flavor, like Big Red.

1. Toad and Luigi I knew, the others were guesses, so that makes sense.
2. I kinda threw that in there as a joke. lol I remember Vectorman having a huge Lunchables campaign, but I didn't play it until I was an adult and couldn't get into it.
3. His long hair makes him look kinda girly and you like female fighter characters? Also thrown in as kind of a joke cause I didn't know a third one for you. Whatever, I liked Vega. He was my main as a kid.
5. I meant Reptile. Ooops.
6. Oh, I definitely played King of Fighters at the arcade as a kid, but I couldn't tell you any character names. I probably played plenty of SNK games, but I was never really paying attention to brands when I played arcade games.
7. I was thinking of Sophita or Cassandra probably. I'd guess you also like Taki and Xinghau? In my defense, I had very little sleep when I wrote this.Iit was very early in the morning and I'd been playing Batman Arkham Origins all night because it finally wanted to work for more than five minutes. Also, someone did make Xena the Warrior Princess in Soul Calibur.

I didn't know if you liked mints. I'm not saying anything about your breath, I just like the flavor of say, Andes mints and thought maybe you did too and I associate mints with the color green, so ...

hey happpy birthday Cary. For my present, I give you a monthly Pac-Man gift basket that arrives at your house with Pac-Man cheese, Pac-Man beer, and Pac-Man coffee and stickers and figurines and other great Pac-Man stuff that you would enjoy.
Yeah, I feel that way too since I'm almost forty and haven't done the "normal" things either. But it's ok. Some of us are late bloomers.
My friend would take all my Pac-Man beer. He's way too much into beers. He even has an app on his phone to keep track of what beers he drinks.

I'm surprised they haven't made more arcade cabinet based doo dads like fridge magnets. I think there would be a market for that.
Especially all those Marque designs. I'd start collecting those.
It would be neat to collect arcade marquees to hang in a game room or bar or whatever. I've only seen arcade cabinet shaped mint tins and Christmas ornaments. I think they could do other things to market classic arcade cabients, too.

Speaking of expensive figures, have you seen First 4 Figures' new Kirby statue? It's cool and all, but 240 bucks? That's crazy.
