Ugh, that sucks. That is one thing about Nintendos, those tend to keep chugging along after many years. Granted, I believe YaMissed2 on 1up.com once said he actually had horrible luck with Nintendo systems not working despite maintaining them well. I'd imagine he's not the only one, but based on what I've gathered from people, Nintendo still seems a lot less likely to die out than a Sony or Microsoft gaming machine.
The Day “Teh” Phat B/C PS3 Died

RIP
Feburary 2008 – September 2014
Aaaand there goes my PS4 purchase (maybe)
First off I want to say thanks to everyone on pixlbit and IGN who commented on my last blog and gave me helpful advice in deciding the question that I asked in said blog: Should I get a PS4 or Xbox One to play Destiny On. I was debating whether I should get a PS4 or Xbox One to play the newly released game Destiny. And after reading all the helpful advice from everyone I had come to a decision to what I wanted to buy this weekend. But it seems that life had other plans for me.
Apparently my Phat Backwards Compatible PS3 must’ve heard that I was planning and instead of deciding to give up it’s top shelf on Game Rig One, Version. 2.0 to a newer system, It decided to commit suicide by dying on me last night while I was in the middle of a game of Ace Combat Infinity. It just shut down and when I tried to turn it back on it blinked a greenish-yellow light then immediately started to flash red. I just had to shake my head then and think “typical” as I did the usual song and dance to see if I could resurrect it.
I even went as far as taking the system apart and giving it a good cleaning (upon reading that if I did try to send in my unit to Sony for repairs, they’d most likely send back a refurbished model or discount me on a new one) but to no avail the system just wouldn’t stop blinking at me. I’m surprised myself that I was able to put it back together after all the dismantling I did (That system’s heat sink is HUGE!) but at the end of the night my precious PS3 was well and truly gone.
So now I have to decide if I want to see about replacing my PS3 or try to repair my old PS3 3rd party or just embrace the new generation and proceed to buy a PS4. You’d think this would be the perfect time to do such given my PS3 is no more but at the same time I lament over all the games I have yet to play on my PS3. I even own titles I’ve yet to touch or even finish before the end was nigh. So far my bro from out east and my coworker tell me that this is a sign and I should upgrade to the new generation of gaming. But at the same time I can’t just turn my back on a little over 75 games I have on the PS3. Even if I decide get another PS3 I’d have to decide on which to get. A used one, a new one or a bundle pack. None of the bundles offered interest me and I’m not sure I could trust a used PS3 given the strict activation policies Sony has for their systems now. Plus I would miss out on being able to play PSOne and PS2 titles on my PS3. Even if I get my system fixed I doubt I’d be able to trust it as my “primary PS3”.
I guess I have the weekend to decide on what to do. I shouldn’t be too upset over this. This PS3 lasted longer than my Xbox 360 Elite (which oddly also died around this time last year). Still it would be nice if the console makers actually made systems that lasted longer. So far Nintendo seems to be winning out in system longevity since my Wii is still kicking as well as my Gamecube, Nintendo 64 and Super NES.
Well I guess I’ll decide on what to do this weekend. Till then I’ll move on, think about what to do and mourn the dead.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need a moment of silence.
