You poor soul you...
and can you guess who's never even played a single Half Life title ever since the utter betrayal of the first game being cancelled on the Dreamcast?
THIS GUY!!! ^_^

Yep, as incredible as it was said to be (atleast in my eyes). Not only a well done First-Person Shooter, but a very well done game overall, and a very engaging one to boot! I would jump instantly to Episode 1, but I want to continue with Portal 2 next just to have an order of playing Valve games. Still, after doing that game i'll do the episodes.
For the time being, all hail to Half-Life 2, now one of my favorite games.
Now i'm going to wait for Nsonic to chew me out for playing this.
It would've been cool on the Dreamcast. There weren't many shooters there. I played some Quake Team Arena and MDK2, but that was about it.
Most reviewers put the PC version above the console ones back then. I was still playing on PC (I played Red Faction on PC before I played the PS2 version) but for whatever reason I didn't play Half-Life until I started collecting for PS2.
Yes it would have been. The DC needed more shooters and this was the one that heralded the fact that such games could be done and should be on the DC. And yet it wasn't. I'm sure the reviewers did put the PC version above the DC one. I even hear that the game had really long load times on the DC. But just teh same I'd rather play Half Life on my Dreamcast before I even begin trying to play the others. I still have my copy of half life 2 for the original Xbox I got for only 2.99. I haven't played it but instead use it as a cup coaster for my tea.
That right. I was possitivily THROBBING to play that game on my DC because for it it showed to my PC friends that console gaming could catch up to PC gaming. it was my one saving grace in being a console gamer, only for it to be cancelled even after the game was even finished?!?!?! I even reserve the game at Babbages etc at the time!
I've never forgiven half Life since then and have sworn to never play that accursed game. only by me playing Half Life on my DC will I forgive and forget!
I did a fast check on Wikipedia and the link to a IGN news from 2001 and man, sucks to hear that, especialy with the port being almost finished.
However, it's been 13 years since the cancellation and things have moved on, and with the first Half-Life avaiable on PS2, and also the second game ported to consoles, I think it's time to drop that Sonic. I don't think there's anything to do for completing the Dreamcast port officialy unless you want to go for piracy.
Drop it? Forget? Forgive? HA! All those are alien concepts to me as is the alien themes of the Half Life Series itself! Yes it has been 13 years but the betrayal is still as fresh as the day I read in my EGM magazine that the game was cancelled despite the fact that the game was already finished. I will never forgive or drop it until I get to play this game on my Dreamcast. I know it's petty and weird to hold a grudge against this issue but you weren't there during that dark day when I was utterly betrayed and discarded. It was even worse when the game went to the PS2, a system I decided against when I bought the DC.
I won't go pirate but I'd rather buy one of those bootleg mock ups of the game for my Dreamcast. but I have yet to find one of those so my hatred of Half Life still rages on...
I still have wonderful memories of playing Half-Life 2 for the One Free Bullet achievement on Xbox 360. You have one bullet for the first padlock you have to open and then you can only use your wrench and anti-grav gun. You can use rockets and grenades but you get so few of those, and they have to be used against certain foes, that they hardly count. I had such a great time surviving with wrench and anti-grav only. It made me really get creative and resourceful. So much fun!
Have you played the original Half-Life? Man, I used to love that game... but having played through it recently, felt differently. It's so incredibly easy to die. Almost to the point where you have to save every five seconds simply to make progress. Then again, I probably just sucked lol.
My favorite part of Half Life 2 was the Gravity Gun.
