 Box of Mario 1

Now in 1986, when i saw this system I was, to say the least.. mesmerized. I was about 4 years maybe 5..when I first saw this thing..I did not know what to make of it..I fondly remember I was at my cousins house and he was playing this thing

I remember so vividly that when I walked into his room.. the smell of pizza. And the pizza was on one of his tables. Pizza that was freshy baked in the oven.. It’s not delivery it's digiorno!

Yeah right there was no such thing back in 1986! Back to point, I looked at his tv..and was like what is that..I was looking at the first video game my eyes laid on..I was like whoa!!

What is that..my cousin replied it’s Mario?? He said it like I should have known what it was. Well I had no clue what that was. What’s a Mario?

Then he said that is the the name of the game.It was called Super Mario Bros, this is when my heart pounded..Super Mario Bros..I
want it!!

This is what my little eyes saw!!!

Oh yeah that little guy must be Mario. But why was the game called Super Mario Bros.. Well 2 things. Mario has a brother named luigi..Ok solved that mystery.

Why is the super in there? Well as many you know. Mario could get items in the game that changes him a bit.

If he grabbed a mushroom well he grew in size, if he touched a fire flower he would get to throw fireballs, and if he grabbed the star he would be invincible. Yes Mario was truly super! He jumped on goombas and on turtles aka koopas, nothing was going to get in his way, but what was Mario looking for you may ask. He was looking for the princess of course!

As I got older the passion for video games, much to the dismay of my pops never stopped. My pops said “Son video games are for kids, when you get older you will get bored of them and do other things”. He called it a fad?

How dare he say that video games was a fad lol!! Well to be honest he had been right about 99% of the time. But not this time.

I never out grew my video games..I enjoyed them and kept on looking for video games to fill my nerd hunger! As time flew by, I kind of lost the love for the older games, newer games came, so I traded the older stuff to get the newer stuff. What a mistake!

But hey we learn from our mistakes right! One day I got bored and somehow stumbled across this old video game stuff..it brought back so many memories. Staying up, playing thru the night to beat that game.

So I went on the internet and it was not just me..but other people were still playing these old video games!!  I happen to tell my older brother and he was kinda joking around and told me "Maybe you should collect all the nes games"... Wait a min!!! It clicked in my tiny little brain. Man that would be cool.

If somehow I could collect every nes game released here in the United States. So my hunt went on. To look for a check list of sorts. Well I found a checklist!! Found out there is 677 Nes games. So I thought screw it..I work my tail off at work, so I should enjoy life’s little pleasures! It would now be my hobby to collect all the nes games. The hunt would be on!!

Why you ask?? Why not??

Some people hobby’s are fishing, shopping, reading, well mine is video game collecting! Now I know this is going to be tough! Collecting 677 Nes games, it can be done, and I will do it!!..Or close to it lol!

It will take time but that is the fun thing with this. I have been told why you doing this, it's kinda retarted..I say to them why not?

As a kid I always envisioned me having all the nes games, just waking up one morning and going ok I got every nes game umm which nes game do I want to play!! Well now it is possible!!

I am still a kid and will always be a kid. Get used to it!! So this blog will be about my adventures of video game collecting!! Also tips and tricks on how to get the older stuff  working, real nerdy DIY stuff!! And gaming in general!! New and Old!

So let me finish this by asking a question?? What was your first memory of video gaming?? Or a early memory of a video game you have?? Would like to read your comments!!

It'll be quite the task to collect all the NES games, but it sure would be fun.

My first game was SMB as well, although I don't really have as clear a memory of it!

I think my first clear memory of video games is watching my older siblings play Defender or Pac Man on the Atari up in this little room in our house in Pittsburgh.  But I didn't really play video games until we got a TI-99 computer and I played games on there.

My memories are distinct though. As far as the NES goes, I was about 8 when it came out, and I remember Legend of zelda and Duck Hunt mostly.  And Gyromite.  Tongue Out

Ah yes gyromite. You could use rob the robot to play that game.

The first game I ever played was Double Dragon on NES. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with it. Super Mario Bros was the first game that I ever actually owned.

I still play the old stuff everyday. Nothing wrong with that! Most NES games are pretty cheap online, and I have a decent collection. Not nearly 677 though lol.  Good luck to you in your search!

Nope nothing at all. Just the other day I was testing out a nes controller. So I put Super C in to check out the controls. And ended up going thru like 4 levels..I was like oh yeah I was just going to try out the controller lol

I am old. My first encounter with video games was Pong. What hooked me on gaming was an old PC game called Wizardry, which was ported to NES, by the way.

My first gaming experience was Pong (Atari 2600).  It was 1982 and I was 4.

Wow, we are so much alike.  My first memory of gaming was our family going to every Toys R Us store in town looking for an NES in 1989.  I think I fell asleep in the car, but the next morning, I came down stairs and my folks were hooking up the system.  A few minutes later the system was ready to go with Super Marios Bros.Duck Hunt.  First we played Duck Hunt.  My sister and I couldn't aim from far away very well, so we'd always get up real close to the TV.  My older brother was a pro at it though.  I've never walked away from the video game life since.

Also, my dad also gave me the same speech back in PlayStation days about how I don't need to be playing so many games because I won't be gaming much after I turn 20 (or something like that).

Also, seeing an NES and Genesis game being played at game store back in 2002 is what got me into collecting for years!

I tell you we are like brothers lol ;p

Man I had a similar situation when I got my nes. My dad did not want to give it to us. So my older brother worked so he could get the nes. I fell asleep one day and remember my older brother waking me up saying hey I got a nes. I was what whatever let me go back to sleep. Next morning I see him playing the nes on tv I was what the!! Let me play!!

My first clear memory of playing a video game was when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and my dad brought home a GBA cause it was my birthday. I dont have the console itslef, as it has been lost over the years, but I still have the game. Sigh... good times.
