Holding Court at the Doll's House

I read the second volume of Sandman last week and let me tell you, it was really good. Whereas the first volume was a series of stories loosely connected by Morpheus's plight, volume 2 told one long story (well, there was one off-topic story, but I really liked that one too). It also tied in with one of the human characters from volume 1 (Unity Kinkaid) and introduced more of the Endless, Desire in particular. That one will make more trouble down the line, mark my words.

Sandman vol 2

Yeah, the cover is super creepy

Instead of moving on to volume 3 right away, I'm taking a break for some Batman! The New 52 run specifically. I just finished the first volume of that a few minutes ago. It's been very interesting so far and Gotham looks to be in trouble for volume 2! I like how mysterious the Court of Owls is, though it remains to be seen if they will remain interesting throughout. (By the way, I've noticed that the library has New 52 Nightwing and Batgirl too. Does anyone know if they tie into this Batman story somehow or are they their own thing?) I think I'll read the next volume of this before going back to Sandman.

On another comics note I found an Aliens comics omnibus (volume 1!) at Goodwill for 50 cents. It sells for $18 on Amazon! So at some point I'll be reading that, though it will be after these library books. So much to read!

I recall Coraline was made into a stop motion film and it was rather awesome. Ah Neil, contributing to my continual growth as a person in so many ways!

I don't remember if Coraline was actually stop motion or just made to look like it. Awesome movie though Laughing

I really should get back into reading my trades.  I have Sandman:  A Game of You, The Goon:  Vol 1, Iron Man Extremis, Dr Horrible, and The Comical Tragedy of Mr Punch.

That sounds like quite the variety of things to read.

Speaking of Gotham, did you catch that show last night?

No, I didn't know it was starting. Guess I'll wait and see what other people think of it first (my usual MO lol).

I liked it. Some clunky dialogue, but I dig what they're doing with a lot of the villains and the overall feel of the show, plus the focus on Gordon.

Others disagree with me.

I think a show about Gordon could be really cool and seeing all those familiar characters so early on in their lives/careers has lots of potential. I saw a comercial, though, that showed an already active Selina Kyle...even though Bruce Wayne was still a boy. Man, she must be a lot older than him in this version Surprised

I thought the same thing. I'm guessing they're intending her to be in her teens, even though it's likely someone my age is playing her.

Still reading Watchmen. I think I'm going to alternate between comic trades and text books from now on. Reading a trade like this one takes a while at one chapter a day.

Watchmen is very long but so good too! I need to get back to novels as well. Need to find a happy medium...

I used to take a one day break from my text books every week to read comics, but since I'm only getting trades now, it takes at least a whole week to read it. I have to consider it another text book and alternate. I can't wait to read the next graphic novel on the list I found at Forbidden Planet.com.

I came across that list when I started to branch out in what I was reading. It's how I discovered WE3. Not everything on there interests me but most of them do.

I figure I'd read through everything there whether it interests me or not. Sometimes a book surprises me. I love that.

Goodwill finds are always good. The best I've only found is a used Xbox with cables for $15 and Tom Clancy's book EndWar for 25 cents.

You never know what you'll find and that's what's exciting about it. Good finds can be rare but man, sometimes they're really good.

these just get better and better, I promise.

Which is saying something because they're already quite good. Looking forward to what comes next!
