And the decision is….
Well it has taken me a little over a week to decide on what I should do about my PS3/PS4 issue. Thanks once again to everybody on pixlbit and IGN for commenting on the question whether if I should join the new gaming generation or cling to the ghosts of the past. But first I’d figure lump all my gaming hardware updates to this blog since it does involve what my decisions entailed.
NEW(ish) HANDHELD!
Back during my birthdays “teh wife” and I decided we’d use my $50 gamestop card I got during those heady celebrations and splurge a bit on a new system. We toyed with the idea of a new console like the Wii U or the Xbox One but in the end we decided to get a used Nintendo 3DS XL. See it’s red!
I mostly got it because I didn’t really know what to spend the $50 gift card on plus “teh wife” really wanted to play Donkey Kong Country Returns on the go. Though we both bought it I consider it to be hers mostly I have been able to enjoy some choice titles as of late (spoilers). It’s a good thing I consider this 3DS “the wife’s” because I plan to get the NEW 3DS later on in the coming years. I still enjoy gaming on my PSP but there are still some pleasures I get out of the 3DS. I can see how addicting it is to use the system’s Street Pass system.
NEW CONTROLLER!
I finally got tired of sporting non-rumble PS3 controllers so I ended up getting a new PS3 controller awhile back. It was time to finally upgrade. The left analog sticks on both my non-rumble controllers were starting to stick in the upward position. Me thinks from too much pressing L3 to run while moving forward. Sadly I wasn’t able to get a black controller and had to make do with a white one. It was either that or a “digital camouflage” color.
NEW SYSTEM!
If you haven’t kept up on my twitter feed, I finally decided on what to do about my Phat Backwards Compatible PS3. I bought a new PS3! As much as I didn’t want to get a flimsy Super Slim PS3 I had no choice given how I could not find the second slim model PS3 new anywhere. I decided on new for I didn’t want to take the risk of getting a used system anywhere, given the stringent DRM features Sony has for their PSN account assignments, (resets only once every six months? Really?) nor did I want to take the risk of sending my unit into Sony for repairs. Word on the internet suggests that the probability was high that I’d either get a refurbished unit or a discount on a newer model instead of my original unit getting fixed.
My choice in buying a new PS3 was simple: Though there are some interesting PS4 titles coming out soon, they are not out YET. I’d rather wait for the games to be out to know they will be any good before I invents in a PS4. And as for getting Destiny with the PS3 or PS4, I decided against it thanks to the word of mouth from my bro out east and my coworker. From their Destiny assessments it sounded like I’d be better off in holding out in buying Destiny till we all know what is offered in the full package. That might take a while to be fully realized but I can wait. Plus I just have way to many games on my PS3 that I have yet to play and want to play eventually.
Because of this I’ve had to reorganize Game Rig One, ver. 2.0 to reflect the new system setup. Since my new PS3 can’t play PS2 titles anymore, I’ve decided to move my PS2 Slim from Game Rig Two down in the basement, to Game Rig One, ver. 2.0. upstairs. I wasn’t sure if this would work but thanks to some imaginative thinking and a piece of black particle board, I’ve been able to put the PS2/PS3 Slims in their new home. As you can see the now sit directly on top of the TV stand with the TV base resting on the black particle board, thus allowing both of the Sony system’s to have enough room to vent out hot air from their rear vents. I had to place the systems up top given the nature of their disc loading features. Add the two Logitech PS2 wireless controllers and a brand new PS3 remote that controls both the TV and the PS3 (thank you brava-sync technology) and I have a pretty new slick set up with plenty of room for future new generation systems. Which ones remain to be seen but for now I’m glad I’m back in the game with Ace Combat Infinity as well as all the games offered on my 1TB HDD. Now if only I can speed up the DL process and eventually get a HDD bracket for said 1TB HDD. Sony was too cheap to pack it in with the 12 GB model?!?! As for my dead PS3 it’ll share space with my dead Xbox 360 Elite till I figure out what to do with them. I’d like to see if I can get them fixed 3rd party but that’ll have to wait till I get more money for the risky venture.
Speaking of dying tech I thought my Acer A500 tablet died awhile back. It would freeze up on the “android” start screen and never boot! I had to do a manual factory reset that didn’t involve pushing the small “reset” button on the bottom of the unit. Though I lost all the data on that tablet I’ve been able to bring it back from the dead. I guess my android version 4.0.3 might not be able to handle the newest apps offered. So as much as I planned on trying out some android games that I hear so much about from users on pixlbit and IGN, I don’t think I have the courage to give it a go. Sorry folks!
That’s it for this edition of GameRig1UPdate. Here’s hoping my cheaply made PS3 last longer than the Phat B/C model!
