Well hello good people of the Pixlbit Galaxy! How was your weekend? Anything good happen? Did you take down that game from your backlog or find something cool? My weekend was filled with naps, football, the swapmeet, and I actually fired up a couple of my consoles. Sorry 360, I still haven’t played anything since August.

My Aztecs started conference play with a win at home versus UNLV. I watched the first half on my TV, and watched/listened to the second half on my phone while walking around the swapmeet. I Love You Technology!

Watching the Cowboys last night was like a flashback to the mid 90s when the offensive line used to push the other team around and the run game was rolling! The defense stepped up, but is still a little shaky, but beating Rex’s brother is always a good thing.

So I did play some games this past weekend, and some of them were on consoles! I caught the bug for football again and started a new Franchise

Madden 25 – PS3

I reset the sliders to default, and I downloaded a fan made roster for this season. Instead of going with a random football team, I went with the Cowboys, and went through the Owner Mode. I don’t know what this involves but I’m assuming it’s the usual of setting prices for hot dogs, and jerseys. Anyways I played two preseason games, and three regular season games, and it turned out well. I do like the default settings (I haven’t played default since around Madden 98). I do need to get used to the smaller passing window compared to NCAA, but my ground game is going well. The one thing I need to work on is second half adjustments. Maybe adding more screen plays and not trying to get 30 yards per pass. Greed steps in.

Destiny – PS3

Someone on my Facebook posted a video on how to camp and get a lot of loot. I decided why not give it a try so I spent the next half hour trying to look for this spot, and it didn’t work as well as I thought it would. While looking for this spot I actually finished off a patrol mission, and started another. I think the one thing I did earn was a new gun. I might try looking for this spot again…or just play the game normally and just progress that way.

Treasures of Montezuma Blitz – PS Vita

Apparently I haven’t fired this game up in a while because I have 49 lives

Since I haven’t touched in 12 days, I still have 12 double games, along with an extra 12 hearts, and I won the tournament again and earned an additional 15 hearts.

At some point I need to clean out the Vita, and uninstall any games I already finished and move the game saves to either the laptop, or restore my PS+ account so I can upload them to the Playstation Cloud.

Star Wars Commander – iPad Air

Still playing this game, and I am getting my units upgraded. I’ve slowed down a bit on attacking other players and there could be a chance that I don’t finish the new special missions.

Injustice – iPad Air

I jumped back into this game, and I am enjoying it again. I unlocked three characters, two different Flash’s and Deathstroke, so I’ve teamed them up with Prisoner Superman so I can level them up at a faster pace. I just finished the first section of the Zatanna Challenge Mode

I don’t think I can play the last two sections because I don’t have Black Adam or Bane, but the other rewards are fine with me. I should fire up the PS3 version just to see if I unlocked anything cool by playing more of the iPad game. It is a shame the Vita version doesn’t connect to these two games like Need For Speed Most Wanted with the console, handheld, and tablet games.

Asphalt Overdrive – iPad Air

On Friday’s Quick Hits blog, I touched on this game being a combination of a racing game meets tablet runner game. I’ve had the weekend to play a bit more of it and I do have some opinions about this game.

Asphalt Overdrive is set in the 80s and it tries to push this theme with the bright colors that ooze the sense of being in the Miami Vice universe…minus the smooth synth music of Jan Hammer.

The game is your typical freebie game with the stamina system so you can’t complete the entire game in one sitting (if this wasn’t here I would have finished it already) and the setup is your basic “map” of the various game modes that are offered.

The one glaring omission that is found in every runner game is a free drive mode. This game needs this mode because that’s what every runner game is based on; trying to top your high score. Asphalt does have a Daily Test Drive where it kind of scratches this itch except you can only drive for a certain distance before the test drive ends. As for the other game modes they are a lot of fun in their own way. There is everything from knocking cars off the street, to completing jumps, and evading the cops.

Gameplay is based on the star system where if you earn enough stars you can compete with the boss of that Turf. There is also a social aspect where the better you do in each mission, you earn a number of Highway signs. Yours truly is currently number 2…probably out of 6 people who play this game.

The game screen is easy to control. Swipe left and right to avoid obstacles and swipe up or left/right when on ramps to move the car to collect various power ups and money. The courses vary from three lanes to five lanes depending on the portion of track you are on. Turbo is earned once you meter on the top of the screen is full, and to enable it you double tap on the vehicle. While playing this game I found a couple of instances where this didn’t work as well, and I had to tap it a couple of times before it triggered the turbo. The fun part of this is earing combos by slamming your car into the sides of other cars.

There are a number of iconic 80s vehicles like Magnum PI’s Ferrari to the DeLorean from Back to the Future to this ride

It maybe a Firebird Trans Am, but it will always be KITT to me. If only it had the red light…

Going back to the game, it offers a lot of community events, which is nice. Items like a forum to create a gang to compete in gang events. These gangs also apparently speed up the recharging of your stamina so I created my own gang

I had another name but apparently you can use trademark names so I went with Team Gold Bull.

Asphalt Overdrive isn’t the greatest game, but it does scratch the quick race fix you might have, and it’s a treat to earning enough in game cash to play as one of your favorite cars from 80s pop culture.

Ok Pixlbit I am off to create some logos for a client. Ooh, I’ve decided after hearing some less than stellar things about Disney Infinity 2.0 to wait until a sale. Over $100 for the game and figures isn’t worth it especially considering that the previous title had more to offer in terms of games within the starter set. Pirates of the Caribbean was easily my favorite set in the previous game. Also there is a new game store in my local mall but I’ll discuss that in Quick Hits.

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris
