Cary's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom

Hey folks.  About a week or so ago, I went on vacation to Disney World with my dad’s side of the family.  I took a lot of pictures and wrote about what I did at GamerDad.com (mainly because it’s just easier to post pictures there).  But here are links to those articles if you’d like to read them and see the pictures I took!

Keep in mind that I didn’t take pictures of EVERYTHING there.  I figured everyone knows what the Epcot ball or the Magic Kingdom castle looks like (and if you don’t, you’re on the Internet so you can search for it after you read my blogs).  Also one of the only bad things about this trip is that it rained every freaking day. Now that’s not as bad as it sounds.  It did cool things off and it only rained for a small part of each day.  But it was a pain to have to deal with ponchos and wet shoes and soggy socks.  And that’s also why I didn’t have my camera out at all times.  But we still did a lot of things and I took a lot of pictures, so make sure to read my blogs to check them all out!  I’d appreciate it.  Thanks!

Part 1: Epcot

Epcot is my favorite of all the Disney parks, so I’m glad we did that first.  So I also wrote about it first, too.

Part 2: Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

The next day we went to the Magic Kingdom.  I took some pictures of things we did during the day, but the main focus of this blog was what we did that night in the park.  They kept the park open later for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party, where you could ride rides at night, go trick or treating in costume, and watch a cool Halloween parade!  So I took more pictures of that.

Part 3: Animal Kingdom

Out of all the Disney parks, I think Animal Kingdom is my least favorite.  Don’t get me wrong, I love animals and there were some fun things here.  But there wasn’t as much to do and it seems like there wasn’t as many animals as there were people dressed up as animals.  So there are not as many pictures here, but I did take a few good snapshots of some of the critters I saw.

Part 4: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I didn’t like Hollywood Studios as much as I thought I would, either.  It was unusually crowded and hard to get around.  And a lot of the stuff we did was going to close for good soon, because they’re making room for a new Star Wars area.  Luckily we got to see some of it before it goes away, so check out this blog for a last look at some of the attractions!

Part 5: Universal Studios

Believe it or not, I liked Universal Studios better than some of the Disney parks.  Maybe not as much as Epcot, but certainly more than the last two parks I wrote about.  Check out some of the movie rides like Despicable Me and Transformers, visit the Simpsons Springfield area, and go to the new Harry Potter world!

Part 6: Islands of Adventure

This area is like a sister park to Universal Studios, and features more thrill rides in themed areas.  We continued our trek into the Harry Potter world here connected by the Hogwarts Express train, and visited other themed areas based on things like Dr. Seuss, Marvel Comics, and more!

Part 7: DisneyQuest and Downtown Disney

And finally, I concluded with things that we did during the afternoons and evenings on our stay at the parks, such as the indoor amusement park and arcade DisneyQuest and the shops at Downtown Disney.

Conclusions

And that’s all that we did.  I think the best part was getting to spend time with my family, though.  You know, if you have family who doesn’t mind being around you and accepts you for who you are, you really can’t ask for much more in life.  Please let me know what you think of these blogs in the comments section, and let me know if you have any questions.  And let’s play a little game, too. See if you can guess five of my favorite Disney characters.  It’s easy if you read the blogs!  Thanks!  Later!  --Cary

I've never been to Disney World, or even the state of Florida for th I at matter. When I was six years old we did go to Disneyland in California, though. My favorite Disney character has always been Donald. The original voice actor behind Donald Duck, Clarence Nash, was born here in Oklahoma, and his childhood house is still in the town he was born in.

Glad you had a good time with your family. I was lucky enough to enjoy a great two weeks in Boston with my family - and a day in Maine, thanks to a good friend and fine hostess. :)

Whenever i would go to E3, I thought it would be neat to take an extra day and go to Disneyland.  We did that with Universal Studios, but Disneyland was a bit too far out.

My parents want to go to Disney World in the winter.  I'm down for it, but it feels weird without kids involved.  Maybe my nephews will come, I don't know.

Glad you had fun though.  Makes me rethink my hesitation about it.

There's a lot of stuff for adults to do at Disney World, too.  Just spend less time at Magic Kingdom and more time at Epcot and the Universal parks.

Glad you had a good time, Cary. I've only been to Disney World once, and that was back in 1974 when the park was still pretty new and Epcot didn't exist, heck, they hadn't even opened the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse yet! I didn't really enjoy it, but I've never really liked theme parks anyway. I would have been a lot happier if we'd gone some place like the Everglades, I think.

Time with family is the important thing, though.

Hey! That's about the time I went too. I only remember an old west themed area where I took some of my first photographs on a Kodak 110 camera, Space Mountain, and a ricketty mine cart roller coaster. . . and maybe a haunted house ride.

Mine cart ride was probably Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  The haunted house was probably Haunted Mansion.  Both are still awesome rides.

Those sound right to me.

It's amazing how some of the oldest rides are some of the best.

Sounds like you went right when they first opened. They probably didn't have a lot then.  Too bad you missed Epcot.  Even though you don't like theme parks, i bet you would like Epcot.

I can't do huge crowds of people, which I think may have been the problem. And I imagine that the crowds have only gotten larger with time and more attractions. I start panicking in big crowds and that usually triggers an anxiety attack.

Just go during the off-seasons.  Plus, Epcot has wider walkways than the other parks, so it doesn't 'feel' as crowded.

I remember going to Disney World and Universal twice in my childhood (2000 and 2002 respectively). I don't remember that much, but I do remember the ones I liked. I really want to go over those parks again, and now that there's sections for The Simpsons and Harry Potter at Universal, since I love those two.

I also remember from Universal a ride that involved classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Is it still there?

I hate it when you say your childhood was in 2000 and 2002.  That just makes me feel old!  I had already graduated college by then!

I do remember that Hanna-Barbera ride.  It's not there anymore.

Do Chip and Dale count as two of your favorites? Then I'd say Winnie the Pooh, then Wimpy, the ... wait, Wimpy isn't Disney.

Wimpy isn't Disney, but he is my favorite Popeye character.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Would definitely like to go to Disney World one of these days, if only just to say I went there.

It's worth going to, but it can be a bit expensive.

My sister's family just went to Disney World and spent a lot of time in the Harry Potter areas. I only saw their picture of the triple decker bus. Thanks to you, I got to see way more of it. Daigon Alley is pretty awesome. Just like in the films. Did you get a wand made? My niece was telling me about how they select a wand for you.

I'm not really that much into Harry Potter, but I did see the shop where you could get a wand made.  They'd probably make me a really ugly, weird wand anyway.  :)

Hey Cary, I'm currently at work and the Gamer Dad site is blocked, so forgive me if my question is something you covered already, but...Did you get on the Soar'n ride at the Epcot park?  It was one of my favorite rides in at Disney World.  I also loved the Star Tours ride too.

Cary Woodham

10/09/2014 at 08:51 PM

Yeah I went on Soarin'.  It was pretty neat.  I'm sad that it replaced one of my childhood favorites: Kitchen Caberet, but the best part was that Patrick Warburton was the safety announcer for it.  I liked Star Tours better a long time ago when it didn't use 3-D.

I don't know how you are able to visit so many places when there are so many things to see and do at each area. I was there for seven days myself and I didn't even see half of what Epcot had to offer!TheHalloween outing sounds like fun.

Well it certainly was a whirlwind tour.  I didn't see EVERYTHING at the parks, but I got to do pretty much most everything I wanted to.  Plus I'm a lot tougher than I look and can plow through things and stay a long time at these places.
