Insert Virtual Disc 2

I am currently playing a digital Metal Gear Solid Japan

On The PS3

Now, when you play MGS with a physical copy it is a two disc game.

And so it is with a digital copy. It is a two virtual disc game.

You have to actually go through the process of changing disc.

Insert Disc 2

You have to press the PS Button to bring up a menu

Current disc is disc 1

Switch Disc

Switching to Disc 2

Heck, it was easier just changing the physical disc.

Technology is killing me!

Hey, I'm 13!

Don't blame me if I'm used to having blu-ray discs holding all of a game, and then having 20 gigs to spare!

GH: Try four.

but swapping physical discs would involve getting off the couch.  Since, i never had a problem getting off the couch, i guess it doesnt matter.

Transmet:   Hahahaha...I need the exercise.

Hey, thanks for postng this.  I have yet to buy a multi-disc PS1 game and I was always curious to know how changing discs works.

GrayHaired

03/11/2013 at 08:26 PM

Jamie:  You also have to change the controller settings from digital to analog to use the analog sticks.

Ranger1

03/11/2013 at 09:40 PM

And some games don't support analog, like WIld Arms 2.

GrayHaired

I think my digital Tomb Raider 3 doesnt support analog either.

That pissed my brother off SOOOO much when he rented from Blockbuster and they only gave it to you one disc at a time, plus I think there was a code on the CD case you needed that wasn't on those Blockbuster cases. lol

Oh, and I thought you might like this.

GrayHaired

03/11/2013 at 08:48 PM

Joe:  Crap, you wouldnt even be able to finish the game with one disc...what a rip-off. The code is 140.15    hahahhaah...but I have it memorized!

GrayHaired

Joe:  That's pretty cool......I've never seen that!

Lee:  I've bought quite a few PSone classics...but this game was free when I bought the MGSHD Edition from Japan.

You have to change virtual discs?  That's crazy. Laughing

James....That's exactly what Im thinking...hahahah

Part of the reason I bought the digital copy of Legend of Dragoon from PSN was because my PS3 didn't always like to load the physical discs after I switched them. I'm glad I sill have my PS1.

GrayHaired

Tami:  I got this game for free, but I still bought the US digital version even though I have 2 complete physical copies. So I have 4 MGS1 games...5, if you count Twin Snakes

The only trouble I had with it on my recent playthrough was trying to remember Meryl's codec #. Argh.

GrayHaired

03/11/2013 at 10:06 PM

Coolsetzer:  Yeah Hideo sure pulled a fast one with that codec numbert, being on back of the disc case...hahahahah

I have a couple of games on psn that require virtual disc switching. It really is odd when you think about it. This is a dumb question... but how do you play MGS in japanese?

GrayHaired

03/11/2013 at 10:21 PM

Aaron:  I've played MGS so many times in english, I dont need to understand the language to know what they are saying...hahahahah

SanAndreas

03/11/2013 at 10:28 PM

You get the same issue on Square's PS1 RPGs if you play the downloadable versions. And some of those suckers are four discs long!

GrayHaired

03/11/2013 at 10:30 PM

Andrew:  You would think they could package it as a whole game...maybe they are just trying to recreate the feel of playing an old PSone game?   4 discs is too many!

Oh man, from swaping physical dics to swaping virtual discks.

Yeah, what an age we live in, huh, GH? Wonder what they'll think of next :)

Damn it JD. Get a grip!

That's friggin hilarious, modern tech indeed. Playing a Policenauts fan-translation and finished it. Kojima needs to go back to those older games.

GrayHaired

03/11/2013 at 10:38 PM

Viewtiful: yeah, High Tech virtual discs..... I agree, Hideo needs to go retro!

Switching the virtual disc, I only had to do that with Resident Evil 2. Some Xbox 360 games will remind you of the old days.lol

GrayHaired

03/12/2013 at 09:02 PM

Randy:  I have RE2 digital, so I'll look for that. And i forgot, the 360 doesnt use blu-ray

That's interesting how they do that. I like how they kept it close to having the physical discs but what did they do about the number on the back of the case? I have to say I have a couple of these Virtual PS1 games but I've never played through to see this screen.

GrayHaired

03/12/2013 at 09:03 PM

Chris: Interesting about the codec number, I guess you would have to googel it?

I saw that 'option' with Xenogears and Legend of Dragoon on my PS3.

I just think it's wierd that we have to 'change' discs, and it wasn't all lumped together as one file.

However, I really don't understand how the emulation works for the PSN, so I can't really go on judging and questioning how things are done I suppose!

GrayHaired

03/12/2013 at 09:04 PM

Yargz:  yeah, I guess it's an emulation tech thingy...I kinda wish it would just play as one disc.

They have some guy in a booth somewhere frantically changing disks! I always wondered about the one where it's packaged like a PS2 game. Came in some bundle. It says PS1 and everything on front. Does it have 2 disks? Or did they somehow get it onto one?

GrayHaired

03/12/2013 at 09:05 PM

Wayde:  The bundle you're  thinking of is the MGS Essentials Collection for the PS2, and yes, the MGS1 is 2 disc, but what it doesnt say on the box is that you have to have a PS1 memory card to save the game.

smartcelt

How odd that is. I think the original case is much better. I saw that one and it just looked so bland. They did a classic game like MGS no justice with that packaging.
