Got my PS3 back today and checked it out for about half an hour. I'm not sure if it's because the 2nd iteration 360 is so quiet and I'm not used to it but the fan on the PS3 kicks in after 5 minutes and get's really loud after 20.

Made sure I had cloud saves for when it goes again. I have a 3 month warranty so if it does die again shortly I'll take it back and if they can't fix it I'll get my $100 back and buy a new one. Even though the build quality is crap and they don't play PS2 games at least they have to be quieter.

Anyway. Saw a few of you on and Dan pm'd me . I'll be back on later or at least tomorrow.

man I'm having trouble with mine. it crashes sometimes, and other times it can't read discs. Stupid fucking Sony.

Mine is still reading discs properly but it has this annoying habit of turning black and white out of the blue. The first time it happened it was on the FF XIII Lightning Reruns demo and I'm going "why did they make this game in black and white?" Then I went back to the dashboard and it's all black and white so at that point I realize I'm dumb. A reboot usually fixes it.

It also does a random shutting down for no apparent reason but thankfully that isn't very often.

I've never had an issue with the PS3 I bought back in 2007, but then it didn't get the kind of use my 360 did, and I'm on my fourth of those.

First off yay for getting back the PS3! I've never had any problems with the PS3 fan being loud, if anything the 360 is loud console.

that's normal. It's what my unit did until...it died.

I pray yours stays well for a long time. I'm kinda regretting the PS3 I got. it just feels so cheap. It's even hard to get the disc out of the drive with it's slide open door.

Yeah Sony outdid themselves with cheaping out on the latest PS3. It feels poory constructed and the materials they used are so flimsy. It probably costs them $50 bucks a unit so charging 4 times that at retail they must be making a huge profit.

Everything is disposable these days.
